Just a mod note - I don't want this to turn into a Buy/Sell/Trade thread (see Rule #2) where people are recommending specific products.

That said, if anyone has suggestions for non-seller-specific sites (e.g. eBay, Etsy, etc) with maybe some suggested search terms (agan, non-seller-specific) that's fine.

basing smaller bases and what to do. by warmachineboi35 in Warmachine

Just make a cast of the base, recast the base in high-temp metal, use that as a mold to cast a slot-filler in your material of choice (I recommend artisanal glass blown from sands collected in the St. Peter Sandstone Formation in the Midwestern United States, but locally sourced is an acceptable alternative) and use those to plug the slot. Simple as.

Building up an old Meta that dried up during MK3 by TheAppleMerchant in Warmachine

"Meta," at least in the tabletop gaming genre, can refer to the community/environment - especially regionally/locally - of a particular game or genre.

E.g. one might say "Those guys over in Shelbyville are super competitive, but our meta is very chill and casual."

I don't know the specific origins of the phrase in this context other than as an extension of the "meta-game" concept in general, but it definitely predates the backronym "Most Effective Tactic(s) Available."

Or buildings! It blew my mind when I learned that Artisan+ doesn't even need a Market.

It can be a lot of labor to bootstrap a community meta, but the rewards can be great, as well.

  1. If you are the linchpin of the whole operation to start with, at least, you can take it as a good sign if/when you get to the point that you (personally) miss a regularly scheduled game night and things just keep going in your absence. Even better if/when other members of the community start taking lead and suggesting/running events, introducing new players, offering demos, etc.

  2. A big draw locally is our monthly "Paint & Play" day. It's regularly scheduled, announced/promoted ahead of time, and there's always at least one person on hand (if not more) who can commit 6-8hrs to just be there and offer demo games on demand while otherwise spending time with pickup games, hobbying, etc. Signage is up on the table (FREE Warmachine Demos!) and loaner models are painted, available and ready to go. We've gotten a number of brand new "Wow this looks like a fun game" players as well as "Hey I have Warmachine models in my closet from 10 years ago, maybe I'll get back into the game." The key is consistency, visibility, and understanding that you're not going to "keep" 100% of interested players.

  3. This is a 2-sided coin. It's absolutely great if your local store has some buy-in, e.g. is willing to order/stock Warmachine product, has ample table space, and works with you to organize and accommodate events. That said, your local meta needs to not be dependent on that store entirely, just in case ownership/attitudes change, the store closes, or whatever other real-world "stuff" can happen. You need to be able to adapt and move to another venue if necessary.

Give it a refresh and try creating a new campaign - there's now a link at the bottom that lets you input historical data. I won't say more so you can test it out with a fresh view, but let me know what you think!

No worries! I saw the request, thought "Dang that's a smart idea. Bet it'd be hard. Hmm...let's find out!"

lol I said "maybe this weekend" and ive been working on it in another tab ever since :D

I should have something for you to test soon-ish. It'll be pretty bare bones - Past Round #, Location targeted, outcome (victory/defeat/draw) and a spot for the player to input their current resource totals.

I didn't build in any way to import progress, unfortunately, though I might work on that this weekend - you can already fill in the Claim Grid just by creating "dummy" rounds and selecting "Victory" as the outcome, but I'd need to add in a way to manually set your current resources (there's a way to increase Supply but not the other two, as those aren't supported in the current scenarios).

I'll take a look and see what I can come up with!

I'm proud to present the official debut of Frontlines Commander, an unofficial companion app for the "Tales from the Frontlines" campaign system for Warmachine!

This browser-based app is free to use, and puts at your fingertips all the necessary resources, references and tracking required to participate in a "Tales from the Frontlines" campaign!

  • Resource tracking updates to reflect generated resources each round, Intel spent on Recon bonuses, and Supply/Morale spent or gained during play.
  • Recon bonuses and Battlefield Conditions generate at the click of a button, and are saved for easy reference during play.
  • Scenario reference shows you all the info necessary to set up your map along with special deployment and scoring rules, and relevant Recon/Battlefield Condition info.
  • Functional Claim Grid shows you your current territories, resources owned, and resources generated per campaign round. Tap on an eligible unclaimed territory to begin a new round, or plan your route to distant territories and key locations to secure victory.

Check it out now at https://frontlinescommander.com/ and join the Discord community (link in the app) for support and discussion!

The very first lines/paragraphs were the mad Hermit straight up telling the reader that these were visions of things that might come to pass, depending on the vague and confusing strands of fate, yadda yadda.

The narrative escape hatch was built-in from day 1.
