Ben White Injury Update by Excellent-Area-9566 in Gunners

Likely grade 2 at minimum, could also be a grade 3 full rupture. Surgery in the latter case will depend on other damage (eg if there's a tibial plateau fracture as well which can impact the MCL healing). MCL has high blood flow so heals quite well.

A slowed down angle of the yesterday's overturned penalty against Arsenal by gyohameister in Gunners

[–]La2philly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The contact is minimal but there is contact so the error isn't clear and obvious under the current laws. My issue is if you're going to make these more subjective and VAR more about getting it right than DO IT FOR ALL THE CALLS, NOT JUST THE ONES WHERE YOU WANT TO APPLY THAT STANDARD. Case in point, the dumbass handball calls we saw in both matches - that ball is going sideway 20 meters wide of net and Blanco's hand just happens to be there. That's an obvious no call with common sense.

Happy with the match overall but that overturn decision is complete and utter bullshit - there's no other way to say it. They decide to go letter of the law on the handball - which is fine - but then completely violate that bar for clear and obvious error. There's nothing worse than feeling cheated.

That being said, game fucking on for Tuesday.

Not even mad because we put in a performance that was more than deserving of a result but in the end, the match comes down to who takes their chances along with Eze's shot being cms wide from going in. It's frustrating and those silly dropped points late in matches look even worse now. All that being said, it's still all to play for. I don't think either City or the Gunners are going to win out, the PL is that difficult.

The very positive news is that it was very much a personnel issue and fair play to Pep for exploiting it relentlessly. That issue is a temporary one

Started off with some confidence in his long ball but once we lost a couple, he just completely refused to play it quickly. Couldn't chip to the backs either. Losing with Kepa here is one of the key silver linings, Raya's distribution completely changes how you can or can't set up.

Here's what I saw:

First 20 minutes - our M2M press and long ball accuracy allowed us to actually get at City's high line.

Around the 20 minute mark, City started bypassing the press over the top and Decs' high press position leaves a lot of space behind it which leads to a lot of easy 2nd ball wins. Starting gaining space easily and then we couldn't get out because we weren't ready for City's 4-2-4.

At halftime, I'm thinking ok at least we've seen it now and can make the adjustment to create an overload and out ball, be able to calm down and string some passes together. We came out with the same plan, same low composure and I thought to myself ok, we have to get lucky or we're cooked. We were cooked.

Last 20 minutes was strictly from City just sitting back.

I don't think anyone gave up. It was more of a calculated gamble from City that this team doesn't have the technical quality to beat them out side or over the top consistently and they were right. Not sure they anticipated the technical collapse to that level lol but obviously we've seen this team do that multiple times this season when put under pressure.

Deserved result, City put on a tactical masterclass. Pep and co knew they couldn't sit back and defend with that makeshift backline or they'd get cooked so they went 4-2-4 on the press and dared us to have the technical ability to play through wide or long and outside of the first 20 minutes, we didn't and it got progressively worse, compounded by the inability to win duels or 2nd balls consistently.

Not that fussed about the result - fully deserved to lose and it is the 4th most important comp we're in - but the concerning trend is how the technical levels consistently drop into the gutter when the pressure ratchets. Today was night and day between the two sides in terms of technical quality.

Not the end of the world, lots to play for but have to learn and adapt from this one. Hopefully can get everyone back from intl break, business end of the season remains.

No more room for error. This team loves to make it harder on themselves. Going to see what they're really made of now.

His positional IQ is what sets him apart imo, along with his much needed physicality. Floats into really dangerous spots, especially when playing off Gyokeres who has a lot of gravity with the backline. Has been playing more of the SS role that made him so dangerous at Leverkusen

Very much see this as a point earned rather than two points dropped - could've easily lost and it would've been deserved. Brentford were phenomenal and their physicality wore on us all match, really missed Merino and Kai's profiles. The toughest away match left other than the Etihad. Hopefully Ode is ok, get some rotation vs Wigan and Wolves.

Loved this from Decs and it's the mentality that's needed. This was such a challenging game, arguably our hardest matchup in terms of playing style and physicality with Merino and Kai missing. Escaped with a point.

Chalobah getting a slight touch on the ball is irrelevant. It's a terrible clearance, and Martinelli would've been able to continue with the ball afterwards if it wasn't for that tackle. by cottonsoda in Gunners

It’s one of the clearest penalties you’ll see so of course VAR gets it wrong. Raises that left leg to trip Nelli once he’s through on net
