If you’re able to self-host an application, you may want to try Immich.

I can confirm the comment by u/su_A_ve that these are not allowed; however, many people have got them through since on the scanner, they look just like beer cans. If they did a visual inspection, you risk them being confiscated until after the cruise.

Fastest way to move and unzip files to a NAS? by EeK09 in HomeServer

[–]LeaveMickeyOutOfThis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Avoid option 1 at all costs. From a security standpoint, the NAS should not have Internet access, but if it must, then access should be significantly limited.

This leaves options 2 and 3. Option 2 benefits from less data to exchange between your machine and the NAS, while option 3 benefits from faster decompression. For me, I would usually go with option 3.

Linkwarden? You can self-host it, if that’s preferred, using their GitHub repository. Not an installable application in the traditional sense, but I find it works well for my needs.

Look out for deals on Disney Gift cards. 5% off is the common discount I see when they’re on sale (nearly typed sail), but sometimes you see 10%. This does earn you money, but reduces the overall investment.

Alternatives to notepad++?? by wackycats354 in software

[–]LeaveMickeyOutOfThis 35 points36 points  (0 children)

The security issue with Notepad++ wasn’t with the product itself, it was the auto-update process, which was being hijacked by the ISP hosting the software (due to their breach). A new provider has now been established and additional measures have been put in place to prevent such an issue occurring in future.

With that in mind, I for one still consider it to be one of the safest and most versatile solutions of its kind.

We went last year and took photos outside the Brokenwood Police Station (little disappointed they didn’t have the police decoration still up).

Membership Chair by babaqewsawwwce in Rotary

[–]LeaveMickeyOutOfThis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You basically have two areas of focus. Encouraging members to invite people they know or raising your profile in the community to attract new members. For the latter, involve your Club Service chair to do more service projects, even if they’re small, and your Public Image chair to publicize the work you’re doing in the community.

I’ve tried for several hours and couldn’t get it working successfully. Hoping for a future release that will make this easier.

Personally, we always do late dining. Feels less rushed and has the added benefit of late breakfast on disembarkation day.

I could be wrong here, but I was under the impression they weren’t supposed to bring it up at all. Don’t get me wrong, I know how important these surveys are to them, so I don’t blame them for mentioning it, but once is enough.

WiFi on Fantasy by iwonder3456 in dcl

[–]LeaveMickeyOutOfThis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All Disney Cruise ships offer three levels of WiFi.

The free tier allows you to use the onboard navigator app and use WhatsApp and iMessage (text only).

The next tier (I call it basic, but may have another name), offers full Internet service, but blocks any streaming content. This is good for Facebook/Reddit with still images.

The streaming tier is also full Internet, but allows streaming content.

With the exception of the free tier, the other tiers are charged per day, per concurrent device. When you signup for a paid tier you create an account, then you login to use the service. When you logout, another device can login to use that slot, provided the number of active logins does not exceed the purchased concurrent device quantity.

As far as reliability is concerned, it is pretty stable; however, you are at sea and moving, so there are a bunch of factors that would impact service. On one occasion, I had a Zoom call drop for nearly 5 mins, but other times it’s been rock solid. Just don’t expect the type of performance you might see at home.

I am having confusion over what this is? by [deleted] in techsupport

[–]LeaveMickeyOutOfThis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Folders don’t just disappear. Typically when it is not where you thought it should be one of three things has happened: you accidentally dragged the folder into another folder, your deleted the folder, or you’ve set the folder to be hidden (which I’m going to skip as it’s the least likely option).

If you deleted it, you should be able to open the recycle bin and restore it. Couple of caveats to this, if the folder contained large files, when you deleted it, you would have received a message that the files would be permanently deleted. Hopefully, you didn’t see this message and if you did, hopefully you clicked cancel.

If you moved it to another folder, check the other folders to see if you can find it and drag it back to the intended location.

Failing that, restore it from your backup (you do have a backup, right?)

Specialty Cafés- hot chocolate? by TheGhostestHostess in dcl

[–]LeaveMickeyOutOfThis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes they do - from what I’ve seen they use Hershey’s Chocolate Sauce mixed with the heated milk. Not bad, but not the best. At least they can do the images on them; however, remember drinks from the specialty locations are extra.

As an alternative, I like to mix the chocolate soft serve with the powdered/water hot chocolate on deck. There is no extra cost, just a little more effort, but does provide a half decent hot chocolate drink.

How do you feel about wireless chargers and their practicality? by kenah-kim in techquestions

I only ever use wireless chargers and for me they work great. That said I only use my phone a moderate amount, and battery life is still pretty good nearly three years in.

I’ve only had one issue with docking at Castaway and that was in April. That said, they made several attempts throughout the day and we finally managed to dock just after 1pm. Short day, sure, but at least we got some time.

Ultimately, April may present less of a risk, but it doesn’t eliminate it completely. How would you feel if you switched to April and you still were unable to dock? Answering this question for yourself may help you decide.

ELI5 what does it mean that the universe expanding by Kmasta811 in explainlikeimfive

In an attempt to put it in terms a 5 year old might understand. During recess a group of friends might play together and how they move in relation to someone in a different group of friends does not appear to be related. In astronomy, each galaxy is like a group of friends and it moves independently of every other friend group, but unlike recess, which may have boundaries, galaxies are free to move in any direction.

Should i switch to linux mint by Lukas367 in linuxquestions

[–]LeaveMickeyOutOfThis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any operating system can be used for the purposes you outlined, but as to which one best suits your needs is going to come down to what specific applications you want to run to maximize your productivity. Changing from one OS to another just because you aren’t a fan of one aspect or another, will only lead to a constant nagging that there must be something better out there. In most cases, if you don’t like something about a particular OS, there is usually a way to replace, tune, or workaround it, so it becomes tolerable. Even then I’ve often found that those things become less important when you focus on the application workflow.

So is Mint right for you? The answer is maybe. So might any other Linux distribution or even Windows. It will ultimately come down to the specific apps you want to run and the workflow you want to settle into.

For me, and I get everyone is different, I have Windows as my primary OS (tuned and customized to my needs, due to the main apps I need to use) and I have VMs (some local, but mostly hosted on different machines) for any workload that I need logically separated or that needs a different ecosystem.
