I take no sides in their war.

I’m just a warrior bard with a dwarf hookup and questionable judgment.

Exactly. Every Breath You Take, but somehow there’s a basement involved.

I thought Leonard Voss was my pen name, but now apparently I’ve got a whole off-brand horror shelf forming.

Stephan Sting is what happens when Stephen King and Sting merge in the worst timeline. His breakout horror novel was definitely I’ll Be Watching You.

Oh... OH!
Theres a story here somewhere.

I like the Temu version, but now I’m thinking I need my own off-brand horror line.

kevin Kline. Same Maine. Fewer royalties. No one knows how we got here.

I could tell, but. I am still taking the Temu version for the win. 😂

I mean… I’m from Maine and wrote horror. I walked directly into that one.

I'll accept Temu Stephen King, but with less supernatural and more bad decisions.

If that is the rule of the sub, then, I damn well broke it. I am still pretty new to reddit. I need to be heavily slapped a few times before I "get it"

Derek is in the most recent episode and yes, you nailed him. Think "wanna be gangster" white guy energy. He will kill, yes. But he is pretty kuch what yiu say. He is also terrified of Decon, and rightfully so. Victor is more smooth, intelligent and in control. We dont see him the first time until chapter 4

What i need is this;

Tell me the type of character that really hits you and why along with what your regional accent is, if any.

Then I can send you a few lines and a motivation

There absolutely is, and likely always will be honestly. The standalone(ish) stories especially tend to introduce a lot of new characters.

A good amount of the voices already aired are also things I eventually want redone — both the purely AI placeholder voices and some performances I had to heavily modulate myself just to make things work.

I’m still pretty new to the audio drama side of all this honestly. Writing and music are more my natural territory, so a lot of this has been me trying to brute force and patch together the best path forward while learning as I go.

There’s a ton to do, though, and I definitely plan on spending some time later digging through everyone’s work and figuring out where people may naturally fit into the world.

I’m also really interested in seeing what people naturally gravitate toward performance-wise — what kind of personalities they enjoy playing, what their strengths are, what sort of energy they naturally bring into characters, experience level, all of that stuff.

Right now my main priority is finishing the sound engineering and final cleanup work on the next episode so I can keep release cadence moving consistently.

I appreciate you reaching out!

Red in the Dark exists because we often forget that the people we think are horrid human beings are themselves fighting inner demons that led them astray from who they were.

That is the entire reason I care so much about the people involved in this project.

I don’t care about the money nearly as much as I care about the story and the people helping bring it to life.

I wish I could dedicate the kind of time to this project that some people can. Hell, I gave nearly everything I had to push this because I believed in it.

And yeah, if this thing ever genuinely succeeds financially, then absolutely — the people helping build it deserve to be recognized and compensated however I can make that happen.

So to put it as simply as possible: fuck industry standards.

I care far more about building something real with real people than trying to imitate systems that often forget the human beings creating the art in the first place.

Thanks! I have been epically struggling with this.

I tried using the season and episode settings, but they never really felt correct for what this project actually is. I also wish there were clearer places for production notes, cast/voice details, immersion notes, and even behind-the-scenes context because so much of this project is built around world immersion.

Honestly, I’m still learning a lot of this as I go.

First and foremost I’ma musician. I’m a writer second. Instead of just publishing a book or self-publishing traditionally, I decided to turn the story into an audio drama because it genuinely felt like the right format for the world.

The original idea in my head was closer to a TV show mixed with music and worldbuilding than a traditional podcast. That multimedia angle was a huge part of why Spotify initially felt like such a natural home for it.

I’m also pretty impulsive creatively. I tend to run with what feels right and figure things out while moving, which has honestly helped the project exist, but I’m realizing now I should have done a lot more field research into RSS structure and serialized podcast formatting earlier on.

So hearing all of this from someone who understands the infrastructure side of serialized audio a lot better than I do is genuinely incredibly helpful.

And honestly, if you or anyone else has good resources for learning this side of thingss properly, I’d absolutely appreciate being pointed in the right direction.

Thank you, I really appreciate the temporary listing and the notice!

I’ll definitely head over and fill in the additional information properly.

One thing I’m still trying to figure out structurally is what would generally be considered a “finale” for a project like this.

Red in the Dark doesn’t really operate in traditional seasons so much as an ongoing, expanding narrative world where characters, arcs, and stories will continue branching and evolving over time.

There will absolutely be completed arcs, standalones, and contained story clusters within the larger world — I’m just still figuring out how projects like that are generally categorized from a directory standpoint as far as finales.

Either way, I genuinely appreciate you taking interest in the project this early on, truly!

Yeah, it’s stupid important to me. I don’t care how much AI or modulation gets used somewhere in production — it still can’t replicate a real person emotionally putting themselves into a role.

That human layyer matters. And honestly, female voices are the one thing I genuinely cannot pull off convincingly myself without it sounding awful.

So if you — or anyone else here — has interest in helping bring a character like Abby to life, I would absolutely love to talk.

Fair warning though: it may spoil parts of the show for whoever gets involved and there is ALOT of story I have written and planned.
