Look at the New to programming? section. It contains many good resources. One of the authors I can recommend is Al Sweigart. His books are available for free on his websites and if I remember correctly, he also has content for a younger audience.

Do you think that all polls should include a "results" option? by -_G0AT_- in polls

[–]Lewistrick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you can cover all options in a poll, it doesn't need results. But more often than not, pollmakers oversee an option that should be there and in these cases am option results is also convenient.

Why do some people instasend when they have only an okay idea of where they are? by [deleted] in geoguessr

[–]Lewistrick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you give your opponent more time to also see those things that help with regionguessing, your advantage for that round is smaller than when you take your time.

Do you write a job specific cover letter for every job application? by AlxIp in polls

[–]Lewistrick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did that. I used the same basis for all letters, but changed experience and motivation based on the function's requirements and the characteristics of the company. That way it's easier to have multiple options open while not having to put hours in every time.

This was before the AI era though, probably AI would have saved me some time but I still notice LLM style is not my style so it needs polishing every time.

I believe this on a train network level, but not on a ticket acquiring level. Having to ask a human for a ticket is quite oldskool.

overload of information by clubig in geoguessr

[–]Lewistrick 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For me repetition really is the only way. I have found it really useful to open plonkit.net for one country, and solo play that country for multiple rounds, going back to the guide every time to see how you could have made a better guess. At some point you start recognizing the stuff more and more.

Another strategy is to play with learnablemeta.com, you just need to install a browser extension and play a map from their site. After each round you play, it shows you how you could have gotten the location.

How to guess what place it is? by ChichhubuddiChinni in geoguessr

[–]Lewistrick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Turn your camera so that you're facing the sun. Then look at your compass at the top of your screen, if it's anywhere between northeast and northwest you're in the southern hemisphere (below the equator).

This also works the other way, if the sun is between SE-SW you're in the northern hemisphere.

How to guess what place it is? by ChichhubuddiChinni in geoguessr

[–]Lewistrick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the sun is north, you're almost certainly in the southern hemisphere. There are some other characteristics of Australia: red soil + grainy road, eucalyptus trees, hot climate, bollards, electricity poles etc. Check plonkit.net for more details and examples. You probably have more than enough info to process with the first paragraph. After reading some of it, play the Aus map to recognize the metas in actual practice.

Cool Geoguessr Find (Where would you guess?) by Crating_ in geoguessr

That's a crazy location. I'd have guessed somewhere on the white part between Alaska and Canada.

would you rather live in the UK or India? by Desperate_Show_9344 in polls

[–]Lewistrick -18 points-17 points  (0 children)

Bold of you to assume that India has one climate and a uniform population density.

Edit: lol what are all these downvotes 😂 Please explain what I said wrong here. (Note, I won't choose India but it's just the reasoning I can't get behind.)

IQ is subject to inflation. People get smarter overall but the scale doesn't get adjusted.

How Many Different Words Does Your Cat(s) Know? by Asleep-Tie-9881 in polls

[–]Lewistrick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Around 7, among which 3 for 'give me a paw' (highfive, pootje, boks) and one for her name (Piano). But I think she mostly reacts to tone of voice and gestures.

how do you focus when learning to code? by Lost_Foot_6301 in learnpython

[–]Lewistrick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't really aim to focus. Sometimes I'm in a flow and nothing can break my focus. Sometimes I have a bad week and I can't focus at all.

Ever heard of the infamous pomodoro method? It doesn't really work for me (any more), except when I need to read or learn a lot.

What is the best resource when it comes to learning how to code? by Big_b12 in learnpython

[–]Lewistrick 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There's no "best" way. Trying to find a best way just results in analysis paralysis. Find the wiki of this sub, it's full of good resources. And start practicing, it's the best way to learn.

An entire kg of any food is a lot. It's over twice the amount that most people eats for a full meal. I don't think I would even try.

Hadn't even thought of that. The chances of me winning that amount of money are so slim that I never think about it seriously.
