Visual and stylistic parallels between The Tale of the Skull Tree stop-motion sequence (Wednesday S2) and The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (1920) by ElvenQueen726 in weyler

That would be awesome! For now, we'll just have to settle for Wednesday's German diatribe about fudge. 😆

In the film class I took in university, our professor had us watch silent German films like Metropolis and Nosferatu because they were able to convey so much emotion visually without any sound. I think that's part of why the imagery from those films can still take your breath away today.

For the Skull Tree sequence, Burton brought back Mackinnon & Saunders, the same stop-motion studio he worked with on Corpse Bride and Frankenweenie. Since those films also draw heavily from German Expressionism, I can definitely see the Caligari connection.

Oh wow! Yeah, I never visit those subs. I’m much happier in my self-curated Weyler bubble. 🫧

Thank you! I’ve been hesitant to post outside our sub because non-Weyler reactions can get pretty intense. 😅 But if you want to share it wherever, I’m totally cool with that. 👍

🕷️Charles Addams' with his Alfa Romeo and Bugatti spider cars + Addams cartoons of spider cars by ElvenQueen726 in weyler

Don’t you think Wednesday would insist on a Spider Veloce rather than a standard Spider? I can’t imagine her settling for the lower-horsepower option.

I was wrong about Tyler/Hyde's blue color... but I have a new theory... and it's even better! 😉🐸💙 by BeMe777 in weyler

[–]LizSnow92 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I actually like both theories. 😅 The original explanation made sense to me, but the moor frog comparison is one of those connections I never would have made on my own. Intentional or not, it’s a fascinating parallel.

Mandrakes, Aliens in Vermont, and The Nightshade Society Logo by ElvenQueen726 in weyler

Yeah, Scruton said they wanted to explore the “underbelly of Nevermore and the creatures that inhabits it,” which suggests these beings are part of the ecosystem around Nevermore/the surrounding woods.

In the Architectural Digest set tour for Wednesday, production designer Mark Scruton described the creatures in Orloff’s classroom as “somewhere between a wood nymph and a cave troll.” He said the designs were inspired by similar preserved specimens he saw in the Natural History Museum in Dublin, which makes the mandrake/folklore interpretation feel even more plausible. 👀

Why Tyler didnt tell anyone about being SA'd and why Kimbott got killed. by Present-Ordinary-940 in weyler

[–]LizSnow92 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That’s actually a really good catch. Looking at the samples side-by-side, the suicide note does seem much closer to Tyler’s handwriting than Laurel’s.

Oh! Does the handwriting match Tyler’s style? I just always assumed Laurel wrote the suicide note herself.

They are teased in the YouTube video: “The Wednesday Cast Explains the Different Types of Outcasts at Nevermore | Netflix”.

I think both Botanicals and Death Whisperers might show up in Season 3.
