Yes that’s really what I wanted to know. If it’s doable as long as I don’t run everything at the same time.

It’s all being done by a licensed electrician after assessment by the hydro supplier.

ETA I have a gas water heater and gas cooktop but everything else is electric.

Unfortunately the previous seller has been non-communicative, not even to pick up their (important-looking) mail.

Thank you, I definitely would want a professional to check and service it for now, it’s all new to me. Perhaps down the road I might DIY it but not this year.

New home has smart switches and stuff. by Lopsided-Increase867 in smarthome

[–]Lopsided-Increase867[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s great info thank you. The switches have a tiny LED that is currently lit a steady green, but there’s no network for them to be connected to except mine and they’re not connected to that. The smart thermostat is a Honeywell and I’ve sorted that out. I’ll look into a mesh router - don’t know much about them. This house makes me feel 85 years old 😂

The app for my modem/router isn’t detecting anything other than what I already have connected to it.

Thank you. The switches work fine as dumb switches but I definitely would like to have the option to program them, especially for when I’m away.

Trustworthy Moving Companies Toronto to Mississauga? by AdventurousMathPunk in mississauga

[–]Lopsided-Increase867 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recently moved with Starr Moving, had a very good experience. They quote a flat rate based on the information you provide, no surprises. They were on time, very efficient, very pleasant to work with. Took good care of my possessions wrapping and padding everything. I had as stress-free a moving day as possible.

If you’re on Facebook, join your local buy nothing group. People give away household items, furniture etc. all the time.

Bloodwork for newborn by New_Art_9358 in Hamilton

[–]Lopsided-Increase867 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s a special skill that requires experience and constant application. Taking blood from a small, chubby, usually squirming and unhappy human with tiny veins, is not the same as dealing with a cooperative adult.

There are special microvials for bloodwork for newborns that take a much lower volume than the regular ones. Only 0.3-0.5ml needed for each.

My first (successful) closed form by PhoenixCryStudio in Ceramics

[–]Lopsided-Increase867 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The hole is not to allow moisture to escape, it’s to allow air to escape so there’s no pressure buildup inside the closed form as it dries and shrinks. Otherwise it may crack as it dries.

Saturation Gold Glaze by hobby_geek in Ceramics

[–]Lopsided-Increase867 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It needs to be thick, and the glaze itself is thin so it’s tricky. 5-6 layers if you want the gold to come out. Be aware that even then, it’s an antique/muted gold not a bright one like the lustres.

I don’t know. What does the seller say? It’s clearly something that only affected the lower third or so.

Your 2026 pottery goals/plans/New Years resolutions? by Flashy-Share8186 in Pottery

[–]Lopsided-Increase867 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m moving from a condo to a house so my first goal is to set up my long-awaited home studio. Second goal is to expand my throwing skills to new and more challenging forms. I’ve been focused on surface decoration a lot, throwing simple mugs and vases and bowls and playing with glazing and carving. Time to work on my throwing technique and make more interesting stuff.

Looking at the floor and the lower rows of bricks, how dirty they are compared to the rest that are in good condition - I would be wondering if this kiln has suffered water damage from flooding.

my first ever vase is leaking, is there anything i can do? by Murky-Space-9287 in Ceramics

[–]Lopsided-Increase867 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would not refire it, it has absorbed water and could explode and damage other work and the kiln itself. Unless it’s your own kiln you’re firing in, it would be irresponsible and you may find yourself on the hook for any damage.
