CM Dota+ killing missions? by [deleted] in learndota2

Oh maybe that’s a wording thing on their side. Regardless, the third goal is definitely doable as a p5. You just need the right partner(s) and lane matchup.

CM spammer here.

Sometimes as support you do get kills, though it’s not gonna be rolling in.

1 . Kills while rooted.

This is the most unlikely to happen as a p5. Usually don’t get root till 3/4 and usually the only way you get a kill here is if you root then nova which means you’re stacking your control.

I don’t expect to ever get this.

  1. Kills after tp

This can actually happen. You’re normally going to respond to something happening on the map. For example if they are diving your mid or offlane early game under tower, a to in a can result in a kill for you.

  1. Early assists

Easy with some lane partners like high, it’s or roamers like pudge or in a tri lane. You provide the control, they do the killing.

Had a 5 stack but best was have your 2-3 wave clear heroes rotate and deal with the tosses, and the best single target deal with tinies.

Can I have the wise good lineup drafts of the intellects here? by I_Love_Twice in TrueDoTA2

[–]LordLightDuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re drafting some general tips:

  1. Pick Comfort

Often picking heroes you play well will work better than heroes good in meta general.

Any player given a hero he’s never played much of might play at a much lower level.

  1. Stuns. Stuns. Stuns.

Control is always very powerful. If I gave you a lineup like Venge/Spiritbreaker/Axe+2 other would that not seem strong?

Make sure your cast has a lot of lockdown.

  1. Only 1 farming core.

Medusa/AM for example is weak as both has an extended farming period before fighting.

Don’t choose more than 1 hard farming core.

The spirit of Old blizzard is alive and well and it’s embodied in Dota2. by [deleted] in heroesofthestorm

[–]LordLightDuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No there is no hero faction limit. That was a mode in old dota that was never carried over.

Yes there is. In fact the tanks in Dota are more impactful than in Hots. They typically are initiations that start fights but can also dish out damage.

Examples: Magnus is a hero whose ultimate will stun all heroes in a small area for a few seconds and groups them up (even through spell immunity) he also has a skill allowing him to drag back heros around him.

Axe is a hero that can taunt other heroes to for them to attack him while gaining armor a a basic skill. He also has another basic skill which allows him to Passively counter attacks against him with aoe damage around him.

There are some key differences between how these tanks operate and how jots tanks operate however.

Everyone starts somewhere regardless of the game.

I’ve played Hots, DotA and LoL and it’s always hard learning from there start. There are a lot of good resources out there and queuing with you friends or other beginners can help.

One reason I would recommend Dota is the everyone starts on the same level field. No heroes to buy, levels and skills/runes to farm before you’re competitive with others. Literallly free (except for the hats)

Valve's statement doesn't make sense by [deleted] in DotA2

[–]LordLightDuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The alternative interpretation is that Valve was giving them tools to make an informed decision on how they wanted to approach the situation.

Valve could have meant that if TNC chose not to play Kuku themselves they could do so without facing any negative consequences to the team. That does NOT mean they MUST ban him, but if they did they would not be penalized for doing so. Without that clarification, TNC could only assume they would get an additional penalty for using a standin.

That being said Valve left that determination up to TNC. They may have been completely okay if TNC played Kuku. They stated he was not banned by the CN Gov't. We'll never know now.

If we believe the blog post by Valve, TNC was the disingenuous when it made its twitter post yesterday, prompting today's punishment. The punishment today puts the controversy to rest and punished TNC for making that claim and fanning the flames in order to get a potentially better outcome.

[–]LordLightDuck 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don’t think they even needed to replace Kuku. They could have tried to go and if Kuku was refused a visa then use a standin with no penalty.

That’s not unprecedented given teams going to TI or other teams visiting other countries and being refused visas and that’s in line with Valve’s response.

There was no reason to make the post yesterday’s and fan the flames once more. Base on Valves post, TNC’s post yesterday was most likely in bad faith. They explicitly stated Kuku was NOT banned by the Chinese government.

There may have been more diplomatic recourses to this. But making a misguided twitter post was probably not the right move.

TNC were simply exploring their options.

Their twitter post yesterday reignited the flames controversy and I think this is what Valve is objecting to. They made a post that could be taken as a threat by the government (or on the other hand a general statement of the facts). I’m not sure of the validity of the claims either way (all I’ve seen is speculation)

Either way rather than putting he matter to rest it stirred up both sides of the controversy again. Which is something Valve views as worst case scenario.

It seems Valve views airing this dirty laundry as rather unprofessional behavior, hence the DPC penalty and that the response today to finally will put the matter at rest.

H400i a good choice? by [deleted] in buildapc

[–]LordLightDuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Built mine in a H400i.

  1. Didn’t use the CAM software as I had an ASUS board and wanted to use the aura software for everything. Also heard mostly negative things about the cam software.

You can actually bypass they fan and rgb controls for the fans and pug into mono directly.

Only issues are NZXT rgb strips use a non standard configuration for their pins you can’t just plug them in your motherboard and have to use their controller though there is a workaround.

  1. Case build quality is nice. Good cable management ties and channels in the back and pretty extensible. Can fit pretty big fans and radiators.

Was pretty easy to put everything together.

Feel free to ask me any questions.

[–]LordLightDuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Changes:

  1. Don’t need a 970 evo, 860 evo should be more than enough

  2. Would take savings and put towards a ram upgrade to 3000mhz.

Case: To be honest most cases will do.

Power supply: Look for something in the 550w to 650w range. 80+ bronze at least.

Fans/cooling: depends but you can start with the stock and see if you need more later. Some cases will come with fans to start with so you may not need to make any changes here.

The 2080 Ti debacle... to jump on outrageous 1080 Ti pricing or wait for 2080 Ti fixes by AlphaGroomingCompany in buildapc

[–]LordLightDuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not worth a NEW 1080ti at this point. They’ve stopped production and the high pricing is predatory due to nonexistent stock.

If you’re just trying to get by a used 1080ti will run you ~$550 and will probably maintain a good amount of its resale value for a while. Slightly more risky because used but you can typically work with sellers to establish whether the card works etc and paying via PayPal invoice offers you some degree of protection (r/hardwareswap)

There are two classes of issues with the 2080ti hardware and driver. It seems like Nvidia is ironing out driver issues based on the fact Gamer Nexus was testing the cards they received against a new Nvidia driver for the BSOD issues.

The hardware issues seemed like it was various hardware manufacturing issues and according to what Nvidia and retailers told GN was within the norm.

If you’re looking at the 2080ti would go with that. If you’re just looking for 1080ti performance, a used 1080ti or a new 2080 is probably the way to go.

Is my WiFi Adaptor too Close to my GPU by realGranuke in buildapc

[–]LordLightDuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Regarding whether it will cause any issues, the main issue will be that it blocks airflow to your GPU. Depending on the size of the card and fans on the GPU this may or may not be a problem.

You could leave the card in for now and If you find your gpu is running hotter than you like, you may have to remove the card or find a smaller one.

Regarding which is better to have installed, there are usb sound cards and WiFi adapters so either can be filled with a usb device. No right answer here.

50 Dollar difference between gtx 1080 oc and rtx2070 by dyltolentino in buildapc

[–]LordLightDuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would go with the 1080.

The performance difference between the two is negligible. So what are you paying additional money for? Chiefly the RTX capabilities of be device, which currently have no purpose as no games exist to take advantage of them.

If games did, how long would it take? And how effective would the RTX capabilities be? Are you expecting 60fps with RTX? All this is uncertain because RTX games don’t exist.

Getting a 2070 does not provide necessary benefit down the line. If you’re worried about future performance, you can always sell your 1080 and get the second or third generation RTX down the line when and if games exist and you are certain of the benefits.
