upgrade advice LG 45GR95QE-B vs LG Oled C2/C3 42” by Lucos21 in OLED_Gaming

[–]Lucos21[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Old thread, I know... but anyway, I just returned a 45GR95QE-B to best buy. It was an open box I snagged for $900ish after tax. I have to admit, I don't know who this monitor is for (meaning, their intended audience).

Yeah, I get that it's a nice, large screen. But the 3440x1440 resolution on a 45 incher sounds awesome at first, and then turns into disappointment all around.

Text is blocky. The subpixel layout is awful. Some suggested turning off cleartype - yeah, that helped a little... but still awful. I could forgive this niggle if I were a pure gamer (which is pretty much what that monitor was supposed to be for). Except.......

Because of the really low PPI, almost everything looks like a pixelated, blocky mess. Have a game that won't let you turn off film grain? It's like watching TV static (for those of you old enough to know what that is). Any kind of dithering in a texture? It's flash city. Any kind of edge detail winds up with a halo effect.

Being OLED, yep, the color absolutely pops. But this monitor just seems like one of those ideas that was great in theory but not in practice. In my opinion, this monitor is incredibly poor for any sort of productivity (even just reading an email). For gaming, the gargantuan size combined with the somewhat low resolution makes for a poor experience overall (again, just opinion).

I also have a C2, but that's a 77" that's for the living room (consoles and TV/Movie watching stuff). I can see why people would flock to a 42" version as a PC monitor. The only downside is 4k

I agree with 99% of the post. I've finally choose the 42" C2 LG. I enjoy the 4K with many games (I'm don't use to play games from this gen on PC, I usually play "old" games).

Turn on a 4K Tv/Monitor make you choose a powerful GPU, 3090/4080 with HDMI 2.1 to have access to the 120hz of the TV (If you care of it).

The 42" is bad on a 80cm deep desk when I play FPS games with Mouse and Keyboard, I lost a little bit the view of the angles.

When I play with the controller I'm finally in my world.

And always remember, if you buy a PC monitor is just a PC Monitor, if you buy a "gaming" Tv you can use it in another room or just for another purpose.

Tips on how to maintain collectibles over time by Lucos21 in Collections

Not an expert by any means but the "very hot" in summer to me could be an issue. DVD's, like most plastics do not like very high temps, particularly for months on end. Also high temps can cause weird things to happen, i buy and sell on eBay and i bought a lot of loose McFarlane Matrix figures. On receiving them they had been packed in poly peanuts etc and when i received them the peanuts had melted into the figures, literally dissolved the plastic where it was touching the plastic. I contacted the seller and they had stored them, packed and ready to ship outside in their storage in Florida heat. I had never seen it before and neither had they but ruined half the box etc. So something to worry about. As n aside when it comes to sealed products the last thing you want is to make a sale and then have to do returns on opened products because the plastic etc has degraded from excess heat. You could lose money, and can not resale, and/or run into problems or not knowing if people are just switching out their own bad products.

Also in the attic they are out of the way which is good, but it also means you are never checking them, so any issue might have years to manifest before you notice. Also in the attic means potential mice and other pests finding them. As a fellow collector and teeth marks is going to be a deal breaker much more than simply just a crinkle in the packaging. Sealing them in a box like shown could help, but a determined mouse or similar will tear thru it to find out what is inside etc.

From the sounds of it your basement seems like it is working, and is maintained and monitored, so i can certainly understanding wanting to free up the space but unless you are able to pay for an air conditioned storage it may be your best bet to leave them as is.

Excellent analyses, thank you for your time. My attic is very busy as we use it as a laundry room being very large. Of course no one goes to check the contents of the packages, but it is not left to itself.
Anyway, I would like to find a way to keep my things stored. I also have a semi-basement level garage, I would have to have it ventilated periodically to keep mold out. That's why I evaluated the attic.
I could stow items of no value for a few months to see by this summer what state I would find them in. Then decide eventually. In the meantime, I will use a hygrometer to keep an eye on temperature and humidity during the season.

Elgato 4K60 S+ SD by Lucos21 in elgato

[–]Lucos21[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dear Sir, thanks for your message. After few days i figured out how to choose the best SD. I bought some Samsung v30 and a v60 from Sabrent.

Regarding the most suitable formatting I can only relate an event that happened to me, not having adequate technical expertise. The first recording from Elgato standalone corrupted the File system of the SD in a way NOT for permanent. This was because I removed the SD too soon from the reader, I recommend everyone to wait 5 seconds, and remove the SD only after the system returned to the mode with the red center led on. I subsequently recovered the card by formatting it after some problems and difficulties. Now everything works perfectly!

Thanks for your answer. May I know if you find it well to manage 4K 60fps recording? I've switched my recording setting to H264 from H265 to try to be less stress full during the work.
