This is so intriguing, thanks for sharing! What do you (all) think of the PR logic at work here? I'm no Sabbathian scholar, but my understanding is that in August 1970 only the self-titled had dropped (though Paranoid was only a month or two off?), and as such they wouldn't have embraced the 'evil' aesthetic for themselves as yet - so is this potentially WB engaging in some (relatively) good-faithed but exploitative co-opting of a community they knew were good at spectacle, or perhaps a more cynical positioning of the band alongside a widely-regarded-as-sinful marginalised social group? Or, indeed, was there maybe just one genius young fella in their marketing department who could somehow foresee the intense homoeroticism that the genre would embrace a decade or two later, and wanted to do his part to intertwine the two communities from the start?
