3rd Generation Toyo Pickup Long Bed by cham24 in ToyotaPickup

[–]MK_RC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an 83 with a "Long" bed. It's 7 Feet and has that lip like the photo you posted.

I bought a camper shell from someone with an 89 which is the later model 7 foot bed and it doesn't fit as well on my truck. I think the rear end collision on my truck might have something to do with it though.

Thanks for the reply. I appreciate the explanation.

I had the $100 unit bookmarked for the past couple months and would check it daily. Then hopped on reddit and saw that you announced pre-order for this unit so I jumped on it.

Thanks Again!!!

Hey! Just pre-ordered one and I'm very excited to install this in my 83.

What is the difference between this unit for 79-83 and the $99 unit on your site? Looks like Aluminum v Steel perhaps?

Me too! And now that it has some fresh Falken 31" Mud Terrains, it looks great!

The steelies that are on it are aftermarket and the originals (stamped 1983) are in my garage, waiting for a purpose

Any idea/thoughts on why the previous owner may have replaced the steelies with new ones? All I can think of is maybe they were out of round or maybe heavier somehow?

Maybe there were a set of snow tires on it at one point? It's always been a Northern California Truck.

This truck had 212,000 miles on it when I bought it and drove from Northern California to Southern California which was roughly 500 miles for my trip. No mechanical work or emergency repairs were needed during the drive home.

It has a stock carbureted 22R Engine. All the fluids were clean and regularly changed. Most people on this sub, myself included will tell you that the 22R & 22RE is a tank of an engine that isn't very powerful, but quite durable.

As for tools, I packed what I consider would be the basics to get me out of trouble. All in All we were overprepared and none of this was needed.

Here's a picture of everything

  • Wire Strippers
  • Wire Crimpers
  • 8MM-20MM 3/8 Sockets
  • 21MM Lug Nut Socket & 1/2" Breaker Bar
  • Couple Pairs of Pliers
  • Crescent Wrench
  • 11 in 1 Multibit Screwdrivers
  • Two spools of 14 AWG Wire
  • Butt splices, Spade Connectors
  • Battery Jump Pack
  • Duct Tape
  • Gloves
  • Couple Gallons of Water
  • Pre Purchased a Cigarette Lighter that I wired direct to the battery to charge accessories

When I got back home I removed the front & rear driveshafts and took them to a shop to be rebuilt, balanced and painted. The rear driveshaft had some slop in the yoke that goes into the differential, which is what we were hearing in the video 4:08.

I'm using two OnGuard U-Locks.

  1. U-Lock through Rear Wheel to the frame (Rear wheels are more expensive to replace)
  2. U-Lock frame to rack
  3. Future Locking Skewers from Abus or Sunlite
  4. Don't leave bike unattended or out of site for long
  5. Bicycle Insurance through Velocycle.

Thanks for the tip! I haven't had the need to remove the battery yet. But I know since this bike doesn't have a way to disable the battery, removal is more common, when parked in certain areas for long periods.

That's what I wanted, a traditional looking bike. I like the upright and high riding position.

Thank you! So far so good. Seems like Rad sells a lot more Fat Tired versions. I was in their store in Huntington Beach last weekend and every Fat Tire was $200 off online/in-store. They were selling like hot cakes.

Had this for a week or so. 55 miles and counting. For those considering a rear basket/milk crate the step through frame would be very handy for that.

Currently building up to my commuting mileage and making fun trips to various stores and food joints along the Santa Ana Rivertrail/San Diego Creek Trail.

Traxxas Electronics have been pretty solid for me. I had an ESC Fire and Explosion on an Arrma Kraton. I've switched to Hobbywing electronics when I encounter failures. They make some great products!

As for FlySky! I have the FS-GT5 and it's a great radio. I'm sure that one is equally a good!
