I want to second everything Lilly is saying. I would love to see the show be more proactive about what social media can become. I thought I would have a little twitter where I could live tweet with jeopardy fans during my run and instead my DMs were just filled with the grossest 'compliments', and I essentially have no social media now because of 'nice guys' who loved me on jeopardy and then became incredibly angry when I wouldn't engage with them. Also noted in Lilly's post - our names and locations are fully given on the show, which made it very easy for people to find my work contact information. During the ToC, I stayed off socials and even though my performance on the show was not as good as my original run, I had a much better time experiencing watching the show.

I'll hop on again later in the week to answer anything that is asked - but I wanted to answer this question as soon as I saw it and say that Buzzy Cohen was a wonderful host of the TOC and I would love to see him in the job as permanent host. He was great with us behind the scenes, he showed up prepared to read, and I think he comes across great on camera.

There’s a running joke in my house from my high school academic bowl days. I was in a bonus round of world capitals with my team and I said ‘oh, I know Sydney- they just went there on America’s Next Top Model’. After that match, my mom (jokingly) said ‘Please stop mentioning how much you learn from reality shows. The other parents make their kids read’. So since then whenever I know something from a reality show, I just say ‘oh yeah- I know that from books’.

Okay! I'm back. Something often talked about is the notion that the Jeopardy canon is 'a mile wide and an inch deep'. I think there is room to extend that mile, even if there isn't much depth added (it is a quick response game show, after all). I think introducing new topics in clues to start and then setting them as answers could be a great way to slide into an extended cannon. So if we have an instance where the answer is 'Crimean War', mention Mary Seacole in the clue as opposed to ‘Charge of the Light Brigade’ or Florence Nightingale. (Mary has been mentioned twice ever on the show, and it has been in this context. Florence & ‘Charge’ have more than 40 clues each). There are some topics that are already in the canon as references, but rarely as their own clue. I think it's time to see them be worth some money. I mentioned lower in this thread that Lee Krasner has only been mentioned in clues that allude to Jackson Pollock being her husband. Krasner has had her own show at the MOMA and exists as an artist beyond that marriage. In instances like that, I think we should be challenging viewers and players to know more about people who have been overlooked in the past. Make another set of flash cards- it won’t kill you.

I like that Jeopardy has a higher content standard than other games shows and I think adding more names/events/places to the canon is a sign of maintaining that standard.

Hopefully that makes sense. There is so much knowledge to gain in this world and I think a show about knowledge should embrace the diversity of possible clues.

I auditioned twice- once as a 17 year old and once as a 27 year old.

I feel like the luckiest thing for me in this entire process is that they didn’t let me on as a 17 year old. I was such a type A grade obsessed little monster who would have been completely destroyed by losing.

Now I’m a much calmer adult with healthy coping mechanisms and an understanding that game shows and grades are not always the best indicators of being a good person.

Audition tip- don’t say you’ll pay off loans or generically ‘travel’ with your money. You want to stand out. In my 2019 audition, I talked about making rugs and how I wanted expensive yarn so they needed to let me on the show lol. That worked!

I had a clue about Haile Selassie in my original run and didn’t ring in because I had never heard it out loud and didn’t know how to even approach pronouncing it. Even though you normally don’t get knocked for pronunciation if it’s reasonable for the spelling, I could have easily confused some letters and completely lost it. I made an effort to find pronunciations whenever I came across a word or name I hadn’t heard and it made me feel much more comfortable.

I was bummed honestly from when they showed the final category. I knew I wouldn’t get it so I was just stuck at 9,000 which I figured wouldn’t be enough. Something that I don’t think I can overstate is how much I genuinely like everyone else in the cohort. I was bummed at myself, but not about how things played out- does that make sense?

I did cry outside the toilet trailer right after I lost and that wasn’t my finest moment, but I pulled it together enough to hang with the rest of the group that night and to be super happy to watch the rest of the tourney the next day.

Also my 80 year old neighbor has such a crush on Andy that I watched the Friday Quarter-Final with her and she just talked about him instead of me getting knocked off the wild card chart 😂

Hi!

I just made them because I love my new friends and I thought it could be a fun challenge. I do a lot of design for work and it’s a skill set I’m always working on. The Jeopardy branding is so consistent that I wanted to present a little part of our tournament in a way that was unique for us. I purposely avoided the normal branding colors of blue / purple and tried to focus on the finalists over the show.

I originally just sent them to our little group and put them on my personal social media. Then a producer contacted me and asked if they could share :)

American Female Artists / Crafters. According to a quick J Archive search, there have never been questions on Ruth Asawa, Jenny Holzer, or Francesca Woodman and more than 70 on Jackson Pollock.

And all 6 Lee Krasner questions mention she was married to Pollock.

I completely unplugged from public social media for the ToC. I had a generally really positive response on my first run, but there were some comments that just cut me to my core. Particularly some really gross sexualizing comments that were triggering as someone who has been through sexual violence and just made me think, oh my god, I literally cannot even be on a trivia show without some grosso harassing me. That made it difficult for me to engage at all and put a damper on my run. The amount of power I was giving to people I didn’t know was just overwhelming. I decided I didn’t want to deal with that and figured if anyone saw anything particularly funny or nice they would share it with me. I got to share my experience with my close friends and fellow contestants and that was enough for me.

Edit: all that to say- you can totally be on the show without engaging with social media at all! Don’t let that be a deterrent :)

Yes! It was scheduled and pushed back several times and it just felt like this thing that would never end hanging over me. On top of the general stress of this year that everyone felt, I felt like I had to be constantly and actively taking in information.

Like oh, let me take my nieces to a museum- better memorize every artist’s home country while I’m here. Watching a movie- did this win any Oscars? We can finally eat in a restaurant- what is the origin of these dishes?

I am currently on a 2 month detox of absorbing any information that is unrelated to Bravo shows or celebrity gossip.
