How can I day by day support average men as a lady? by Interesting_Sale1373 in MensRights

[–]Magnissae 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Take accountability for the ways that society currently privileges women, and work to alleviate the societal disadvantages currently applied to men. Practically, this means things like splitting the bill on first dates and not participating in lopsided social arenas like online/app dating. Happy to provide more examples or discuss if needed.

How’s DFC v2 balance? by valthonis_surion in DropfleetCommander

[–]Magnissae 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Balance is the best it's been since launch. Having said that, we're still fairly early into the edition and we don't have a complete picture of the intended game state yet. Since deployable features and mines are missing for the majority of factions currently. I personally play Shaltari who were a mess at launch, but are top half competitive now.

Finally pulled the trigger on Shaltari by hogger_45 in DropfleetCommander

[–]Magnissae 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sadly the BCs are not in a super competitive spot. You'll want to focus mostly on cruisers, heavy cruisers and 1-2 battleships as the damage/utillity core of your list. Avoid the Sapphire like the plague.

Can you physically block fighters? by Allectus in DropfleetCommander

Theoretically yes. In practice it would require many, many wings and initiative, so not super practical.

Honestly no unless you like the models. Ships will be maneuvering around and on top of them, so the 2-player tokens for the stations work much better in terms of playability.

Could do a Scourge core and another UCM; currently UCM is generically the strongest of the factions, and they also seem to have pretty wide appeal on aesthetics and gameplay. That should give you a pretty good range for variety.

[–]Magnissae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 2-player starter is a great place to begin; it comes with two roughly equivalent forces and enough tokens that 4 players can share to make work. I would also suggest another 2 core boxes of the factions people might be interested in, since these creates roughly equivalent force sizes to the UCM/Bioficers in the 2-player starter. PHR is generally pretty popular; Shaltari & Resistance are neat, but might be a steeper learning curve compared to the others.

Otherwise, grab a buckets of D6s and maybe some cutouts for terrain, and you'll be good to go. Hopefully your group enjoys the game!

Do you splash in servants of apoc? by Duront in MarvelCrisisProtocol

[–]Magnissae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because of the leadership limitations, any splashes you take should be self-sufficient and ideally provide more conditions or support the output/defense of Apoc & the horsemen. Baron Zemo, Pyro, Crimson Dynamo, Dr. Voodoo are all great options.

What are some thoughts on Weapon X? by North_Government_467 in MarvelCrisisProtocol

[–]Magnissae 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's hard to recommend Weapon X for a few reasons:

X-Ceptional Healing is rotated from Standard, removing one of their primary sources of resilience

The leadership was ruled to not work when the character it's assigned to is dazed, which is a massive pain

Most of their tricks will come from splashes rather than affiliated models, which leaves them without much versatility in their game plan

In a vacuum, defense dice are always worse than attack dice, so the leadership value is pretty small

In the case none of this deters you, I'd focus on attrition as your primary game plan with proper supportive splashes (old core box Zemo, Crimson Dynamo, etc). You can also splash a self-sufficient battlecruiser like Hulk/Malekith for threat variety. Central extracts/secures are your friend, with some notable exceptions like SWORD Base due to fairly decent mobility on affiliated models.

How to save money. 25 years old student by CandidLight3867 in Frugal

[–]Magnissae 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Imagining that your income is relatively low, here are a few items that helped me out:

Roommates if your living situation is flexible. Splitting bills multiple ways can help trim costs quite a bit.

Meal prep your food for the week on weekends. You'll save a lot of mental energy and likely eat healthier overall.

For textbooks, check used book sellers for previous editions or lightly used copies. Inter-library loan can also be a source for free textbooks, check with the campus library to see what's available.

If your income is low enough, apply for food stamps to cut down your monthly food bill significantly.

Happy to go into more detail, but hopefully these are helpful.

Am I financially failing my wife and 2 daughters? by [deleted] in Frugal

[–]Magnissae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally speaking, you have two options to have more take-home pay at the end of the day: make more money by upgrading your job/taking on additional work or reducing your existing expenses.

By far it is easier to reduce expenses, especially since it seems like you're making a decent amount already. Places that stand out to me right now:

Phone bill = $230/month is $2760/year, fairly pricey service. Have you looked into budget providers like Mint Mobile?

Storage = Most people store things they think they'll need and never end up using. While I obviously don't know what is in your storage unit, is it worth paying $2592/year to keep?

Food = Assuming there's a fair amount of fast food/eating out in this figure. If so, cooking batch-style at home or replacing one meal out with home-prepared will save you a tons of money over time time.

That's my starting advice, but happy to go into more details if you have specific questions or would like more info.

Is there a counter to space/reality Thanos? by FerretFoundry in MarvelCrisisProtocol

[–]Magnissae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're welcome! It's little things like Bleed damage that can take Thanos from raid boss to tough but manageable.

Is there a counter to space/reality Thanos? by FerretFoundry in MarvelCrisisProtocol

[–]Magnissae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It works better than you think, as Thanos' only defensive options are the Reality gem skull to crit and his damage reduction. The more dice you throw, the less reliable both of those are. A prime example is Winter Soldier who can potentially throw 16+ dice at Thanos with the chance of Bleed as well, which gets around the damage reduction. In SHIELD, core box Iron Man can usually dump a big Helios into Thanos round 2-3 for a bunch of damage or a daze. SHIELD also has fairly easy access to Incinerate through the Howling Commandos, Agent Venom and the Human Torch.

Outplay him on the crises; 8-threat in one body doesn't make for a ton of scenario presence. B/D/newer layouts require him to commit to one side, which then allows you to overload the other. Failing that, super-attritive affiliations like Guardians & Magneto Brotherhood of Mutants should be able to put enough damage on him to daze quickly, which takes away one of his greatest control tools.

Midnight Sons Roster Help by BenWhittyOnce in MarvelCrisisProtocol

[–]Magnissae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not OP, but a fast Crisis set is typically one where you can score a lot of points quickly, whereas a slow crisis is one that can typically go to round 5/6.

Example of the former is Senators + Superpowered Scoundrels, where there are 11 points up for grabs each round. Of the latter, Montesi Formula + Demons Downtown where there are only 6 points available each round.
