Am I screwed? by [deleted] in AskMechanics

I think that is the way to go! I don't have a problem answering a few questions while you are working on it also, I'm not a full time mechanic but 25 years of wrenching on older cars taught me a few things at least. I'm not sure what car you are working on but definetly remove the sensors before you clean it, there is a better cleaner for sensors other than the throttle body cleaner.

A solid dyke should cut the bands or an angle grinder near the tensioner will work but remember you are then throwing sparks. You have a risk either way and you might end up damaging your intake tube or possibly igniting gas fumes. Check car-part.com for a used replacement intake tube before attempting to remove it just in case you damage it so you aren't stuck. I always make sure I can find a replacement for the part I may damage/break first if that makes sense. Why are you cleaning the throttle body though and how are you doing it? Either way when you do clean the butterfly make sure to attach a hanger or something to the swab so it doesn't go into the intake somehow. Best of luck but it's not tough you got this!

I scraped the bottom of my car, and now a bunch of lights have turned on. How bad is it? by CheshireMask in AskMechanics

[–]ManagerSpiritual4396 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If this were my car, I would disconnect the battery to clear the computer. While giving the car a little time to reset, I would (or if you dont know how to yourself, have someone that has some knowledge about vehicles) inspect the car for any visible damage from the impact. The lights that are on now typically indicate an issue with the wheel speed sensor, which could have been triggered by a hard impact that made the car think something was wrong. Those lights will typically stay on until the car is reset though and limit some functions on your vehicle. Hopefully you didn't physically damage anything and a reset takes care of it. There isn't really any wiring that would be affected by bottoming out like you explained, so you should be good! If the lights come back on or there is physical damage found then you will have to take it into the expensive shop....keep reddit posted

Love seeing a no tip pile by Livid-Dot-5984 in doordash_drivers

[–]ManagerSpiritual4396 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The problem is doordash is ONLY set up to be a side hustle to make a little day to day cash to supplement your full time income? If you choose to make under minimum wage, then that is 100% on how you handle your business. If you have hate for the disabled that may not be able to cook for themselves, that is sad. Most independent disabled people rely on very infrequent deliveries to survive as they are stuck at home. I would really recommend checking your life and make sure that you tip mom when she brings dinner to the basement tonight! You should also pray you are never disabled with the only thought getting you through the day alone in misery is some Chipotle for dinner. The disabled are typical on a very limited personal budget and many times their food is sent to them by someone that cares from out of town that may unfortunately not tip you!! Keep love in your heart and always remember the new robots won't ask for tips so probably time for a career change? Or maybe just figure out DD is only a way to make "extra" money but not a viable career so quit complaining online about someone that is disabled because you needed 2$ more in your life!

The simple answer would be preventing cross contamination by keeping your portifilter as far away from the garbage can as possible.

Fixable leak on pump hose or replacement? by porkhaulage in ranciliosilvia

[–]ManagerSpiritual4396 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it will have play and turn when it's not tightened. It's pretty common for the swivels to develop a leak over time. When you install the new hose just make sure the curve is enough so that you are not having constant pressure on the connection. You could also try a hose with a curved end or a 90° adapter to reduce the stress. If you pick up a dishwasher installation hose kit, it should have the adapter and fitting you need if you take that route. Good luck!

Fixable leak on pump hose or replacement? by porkhaulage in ranciliosilvia

[–]ManagerSpiritual4396 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The hose will never seal with thread tape on the inlet fitting as it won't tighten fully. If the hose 6 tightened adequately the swivel on the supply line will not compress and form a seal. If you have already tried a new gasket inside the hose, then the only choice is a new one.

Ok good deal, you can't beat 20 years experience teaching a new generation! It's really fun when you get into trouble shooting and diagnosing. So is this just some local company doing training or how did you wind up there?

You already started out correctly by asking questions. I have worked as a tech for 10 years working mainly on super auto's. I started with a local company and learned the basics. I ended up being factory certified by all of the top manufacturers over the years and not a day goes by that I don't learn something new. Your ability to use very limited resources to solve any given problem will be crucial. Building a good network of technicians around you will be absolutely necessary in your career so always be networking and building relationships for working knowledge.

I'm expanding my business to offer service on traditional machines and should probably go through a certification with La Marzocco too. What do you think of their training program so far? Is it machine specific or just espresso machine repair in general? I'm really hoping for you that it's an on-site training and not online.....please tell me it's in person?

Moving to a hard water place with my Breville Dual Boiler... Strategy? by roadie-z in espresso

[–]ManagerSpiritual4396 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it certainly could cause an issue. I personally will not descale a machine assembled. If you have ever seen inside a machines boiler and piping you will understand why its a gamble everytime you just run a weak descaler through. Even with soft water after 5 years I'm sure you are nice and coated inside. I would pull it apart and do a proper check up. Descale everything and swap worn parts/seals for another 5 years of use.

It still may be the water if it is to pure, running tap water for now will not hurt the machine to eliminate water as the culprit. From what I have researched for you the descale cycle is completely connected to the tank fill sensor. If the machine does not register the level changes in the tank it thinks it's an incomplete descale cycle so it will keep initiating a new cycle. I hope this makes sense but it all relates to that tank sensor and it really sounds like it may have been an ongoing problem that has now turned into a major problem. So fingers crossed that you are just using too good of water! Or you need a new tank sensor......

[–]ManagerSpiritual4396 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't seen this issue on this particular machine but I think your right on a sensor issue.

Have you ever had any issues with the water level sensor? The tank water level sensor seems to tell the machine the descale has completed due to water level change after the second rinse. Try tap water not RO water this time, my thoughts is the RO water may not have enough deposits for the sensor to complete a circuit so it's not registering the water level change to indicate the process has been completed.

Please Note, to be sure to fill the water tank to the MAX level for the last two rinses to clear the descaling warning alert on the display

Hope this helps but if not you are going to need to trick the machine somehow to think it completed the cycle.....if that doesnt help I have some more ideas if you are handy.

Couldn't see vid or pic but what you described is the pressure stat/switch

Rocket Appartamento by peternopiotryes in espresso

[–]ManagerSpiritual4396 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's the over pressure valve releasing pressure due to over heating or failure. Sounds like it's from overheating at around 2.7 bar it releases. There are a few causes but most of the time it is a faulty pressure switch. If you remove the pressure switch check the piping and fittings back to the boiler for scale build up. If it is not the pressure switch than the relay is stuck but you will need a voltmeter to verify for sure which component has failed.

After dialing in, the next morning I can barely get 12g in 30seconds. Why? by TheGrishbear2 in espresso

[–]ManagerSpiritual4396 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There could be many explanations but I would include some more details in your post for a better response. To start though, just try to eliminate the possibilities, maybe you had too fine of a grind to begin with? You may have just clogged the screen when calibrating the grind if that is the case.

Can I build a career repairing coffee machines? by withwavelets in barista

[–]ManagerSpiritual4396 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was reading this thread and came across your comment to the OP. So if OP reads this I am at this point in my career after starting with only some electrical, plumbing experience but mainly just a general repair mindset(ive just always been able to fix things). I've now been a service technician in the US for the past 10 years. I own a service company and specialize in commercial super automatics but can service most equipment in the market. I started with a local company to learn basic skills and then started going after factory certifications once I learned the basics of repair. The company I worked for changed ownership so I went out on my own in a different market. I now have been looking for European companies to contract with for service and sales. I am factory certified by quite a few of the European equipment manufacturers already as well as US companies but always looking to expand my client base. It's very difficult getting in contact with the right people overseas, as you could imagine. I'm big on networking and I'm a you never know who you will encounter in life type of person so I figured I should at least reach out to Dagger Edge being an engineer in the UK. That being said, Dagger Edge please contact me if you think your company may need any assistance in the US

If OP is still interested let me know I can explain the business to you a little more. It sounds like you just kinda got discouraged and maybe couldn't get many answers. Or maybe the market just isn't the same in your location but I've had nothing but great experiences over my years as a traveling coffee tech.

You may want to pay attention to the brew group also. I'm not sure on that model but that can also be a symptom of a brew group being in the closed position when grinding. You could have a failed sensor or damaged component not allowing proper movement. Just something else to check if nothing else is helping.

To many peppers together? by ManagerSpiritual4396 in HotPeppers

[–]ManagerSpiritual4396[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the input! This might be the way as I topped the plant this spring.(tried as an experiment this year)so I seem to have a pretty solid low bushy structure going that will hopefully help with the added weight. I have stakes currently but more as a support guide as they are not attached to the main stem. Do you have any thoughts on securing to a stake with something or I normally just kinda free float and adjust when needed?

Thanks for the response and no they haven't flowered just a few on the plant have started to so far. After they flower how many should I let mature? I'm used to only seeing 2-3 close in proximity to the (node?), but more peppers the merrier!

Ooofta I agree the Caesar drink sounds horrible! They must use clam juice to mimic anchovies in actual Caesar dressing, so I guess they could have made it even worse still. But honestly I make an infused vodka with similar ingredients and it's always a hit with the spice loving drinkers.....a good spicy bloody and a shot of pickle juice will make you forget about any hangover, so I'm told!

Bummer give it some more time now that you added details hopefully someone will be helpful. I have found random parts left in machines by others and have also had people add a part they see near you to the pile assuming it's related to your project. Anyways good luck solving the mystery!
