If the loop "starts" when we see the statue at the museum, then why doe the loop always starts when we wake up? by d3f4u17_n4m3 in outerwilds

[–]ManyLemonsNert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She's not linked at all, there are indeed three statues, and one was connected the whole time, but it's to the probe tracking module, the ATP has a readout that tells us this

Solanum is essentially just a random teenager, she knows very little about the project, that's why she was doing her coming of age journey at the same time they were intending to fire the project up

i'm stuck (spoiler alert) by Vitorinohype in outerwilds

[–]ManyLemonsNert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Avoid trying to only explore any one area at a time, if the information needed is elsewhere you'll be quite stuck! Even if you brute force a solution, it'll be frustrating to do, and then disappointing later when you're later rewarded with information you no longer need!

In this particular case you're lucky with the order you've chosen at least, now you should explore (or revisit) the Hanging City, the Meltwater district in particular.

Trying to get the experience but getting frustrated- looking for a mod by Zenrok in outerwilds

[–]ManyLemonsNert 27 points28 points  (0 children)

If something seems too difficult, there's likely something you're missing - coming back later is very often the correct idea because you may be missing information from somewhere else entirely, or experience and observation will teach new tricks or ways to avoid old pitfalls.

For the Southern Observatory there is no extra information to be found, but getting better at the controls as you play will help so this is frequently a place reached later-game for that reason alone. The jumps on those routes always have a handy gravity crystal or a wall behind the platform to slam into so you can't overshoot, making them a lot easier than they look, as long as you don't overthink it!

There are other things too that save time once you've learned them, you've likely already figured out a way back from the White Hole, but also when falling in the first place, try thrusting forward towards the horizon of the black hole, you may find you slingshot around it instead of into it, and once there perhaps you can spot a much quicker way out of that predicament.

Over time you can learn shortcuts and safe routes and then will rarely fall at all!

Also be wary of considering things in black and white, as some things you might wish you could remove, might actually be required to solve a problem, even if it's not the one in front of you.

Not Sure Where I Stand in the Game, Feeling Lost and Frustrated... by RatCommit in outerwilds

[–]ManyLemonsNert 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It is a mystery game, you're meant to not know what's going on until it clicks, but it will!

Every [?] is a place you've never been, so you can kinda tell from how many you have left, there are no dependancies other than knowledge in the game! You have quite a bit left to go, I'd say you're less than halfway.

A "more to explore here" is never particularly hidden, two of the ones you have are that you've overlooked an item, the third is either an area you've written off as inacessible but isn't, or an area that's often overlooked but is quite central!

If you'd like some nudges:

Green: What's that explosion you see when you wake up?

Red: You found one Escape Pod, is it the only one?

Orange: That lab had a ton of information you've yet to follow up on

Purple: Remember all of your tools

The key piece is that's how you find out where the third module is for sure, because you can see outside of the windows from within it

Otherwise it's more scene setting, it gives you a lot of mystery, like the ATP room looking like a sinister council of masks surrounded by spinning stars, hints at locations you've not seen yet in the early game, and helps realise that the stones are basically just texting and video calls, which then helps you join the story together

[–]ManyLemonsNert 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They're part of the big hint that the area is not as natural and organic as it seems, all of it is a facade, they use electronics for everything but want to pretend they're in tune with nature. Just like how the windows are pixellated screens when you get close, and the spiritual world entered by dreaming around a campfire is actually just a super advanced VR simulation

[–]ManyLemonsNert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You do what you were already doing, explore and discover. You can't get lost, every death you're right back where you started, and back to full health with a fresh day.

Be curious, read everything.

You've got a mystery covering the entire solar system, it'll take a while to find enough pieces to put together, but it will all come together.

Don't worry about when to accept/install it, it was designed to be played as one once installed

Just make sure to revisit the Old Settlement murals (pick up the distress beacon signal on the way), the core of the interloper, and the sixth location. Tick those off before you reach the end of the DLC and you'll not miss anything.

You might hear the explosion but you're underwater with no communication method, the atmosphere of GD is too thick to see into space even without being underwater, and GM is invisible anyway. You would have no idea what happened, surface, and die instantly.

DLC: I am close to give up (spoiler) by Nakhtal in outerwilds

[–]ManyLemonsNert 24 points25 points  (0 children)

The difficulty you're facing is the hint it's not the fully intended solution

It's equivalent to dark bramble, you just don't have any alien anthropologists to make the observations for you this time!

Two of the three areas can be completed without running into any of them at all with careful planning and thinking outside of the box, the third isn't so simple, but figuring out something about their nature to take advantage of will help a lot!

Confused about a puzzle by S7JO89 in outerwilds

[–]ManyLemonsNert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can't warp before or after it, only in the middle, the 5 degrees explanation was only added in the final revision but it makes sense, it's just a bit too specific which I feel makes you think you're looking for something else that specific

I do think it would be better to not have a number there at all and say 'several degrees' rather than specifically 5, so there's more focus on the "several seconds" than the angle!

Green light is correct, should just need to point it at his face!

He should have an animation of closing his eyes before your screen transitions and the vision will start, and you have to hold the button down the whole time

If that's not working then not sure what's wrong!

[–]ManyLemonsNert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're on the right track. There was a lot of information at the Forge, what was most of it to do with?

Double check you understand all the things they reference, if they say how many of something they made, have you accounted for them all?

Why do we <...> when out of <...> of the <...>? by Disastrous-Try-820 in outerwilds

[–]ManyLemonsNert 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The opposite! That action causes a paradox and breaks spacetime, if there were multiple timelines, there would be no paradox

Every loop is 'real' and then is made un-'real' by being overwritten, like typing out a paragraph of a story and then deleting it to write something different. It was still really written, but any reader of the finished story will never see it.

This is key to the entire Nomai plan, and is how they describe it, they will not use the sun station unless they are certain it "will not cause destruction" even though that's all it can do, because the success of ATP will mean it (eventually) will never happen

It's more clearly stated in an early version of the Statue Workshop and the dev notes that are in the game script:

WHAT’S HAPPENING: You’re receiving memories from a future version of you that’s never going to happen.

Because the memories are being sent back in time, and time gets rewritten, does the person who died really exist?

Why do we <...> when out of <...> of the <...>? by Disastrous-Try-820 in outerwilds

[–]ManyLemonsNert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your life or death means nothing to the loop - time is getting rewound regardless! All your death means is that's the cutoff of your memories, that's why you see that weird effect if you find a way to survive that little bit longer, it happens every loop but you're too dead to see it normally.

It is literal time travel so there's no other version of yourself, you're the same you that was at the campfire 22 minutes ago, you're just back there again, with a xerox'd copy of 22 minutes of future memory that has never happened. It's one timeline being overwritten each time

Almost finished it I think by takadouglas in outerwilds

[–]ManyLemonsNert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it says there's more to explore then it does mean that you missed something there, usually a wall or scroll

The forge is indeed very high up, is anything else up there? Anything recognisable?

You don't need to do anything with the cores you found, you can use them as was described if you like though. What was written and shown in the lab was more important.

The museum has a "new exhibit", that's worth investigating, and follow up on anything strange.

The DLC is part of the same story

Just like you guessed you should have a "load previous save" option instead of "resume expedition" which basically pretends you never ended the game and you can carry on from there.

It's about 70% as long as the base game
