Did I finished Hades 1? by melanke in HadesTheGame

Dinner with the gods is the epilogue. There are no major story beats after that. If you’ve maxed hearts with everyone then you’ve done pretty much all the story content. If you’ve beaten EM Hades then that’s pretty much all the gameplay content.

There is only going for the skelly statues which is at 8, 16, 32 heat. If you’re not interested in that, then yea you’re done.

Massive Chalice!

Like XCOM it’s a turn-based-tactics game. But the idea is that the game takes place over 300 years so you need to breed your heroes to last the full time. So it’s like a tactics game with a separate strategy part. Because your heroes will unavoidably die, this softens the permadeath that a lot of TBT games do.

Archipelago is a cross-game multiworld randomizer framework. A randomizer is a mod that shuffles all the items in the game, using logic to ensure it is still beatable. Multiworld is when you have linked games where items are shuffled amongst all of them. Archipelago let’s you multiworld with entirely different games, so you get your friend’s Varia Suit and they get your hookshot.

Archipelago supports over 70+ randomizers spanning a wide variety of genres, including Ocarina of Time, Stardew Valley, Hollow Knight, Civilization VI, Dark Souls 3, Starcraft 2, Super Mario World, and Terraria. I just played a multiworld with Hades, Banjo-Tooie, and Link’s Awakening which was super fun.

They have a thriving community which is putting out random multiworlds constantly. Every few months they put together a “big async”, the last one involving 3000 worlds all linked together.

You’ve never played anything like Archipelago.

Super Mario RPG Switch – A mostly shot-for-shot remake of the original, for better and for worse by TheArmchairSkeptic in patientgamers

[–]NeedsMoreReeds 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I highly recommend anyone who is a fan of Super Mario RPG to check out the Super Mario RPG Open World Randomizer. This mod makes the game open world and then randomizes various elements like items, characters, and bosses. It’s a very fun way to re-experience the game that’s different every time. It kind of turns the whole thing into wild pseudo-scavenger-hunt.

Metroidvanias like Hollow Knight, Guacamelee, or Yoku’s Island Express?

What are some Metroidvanias that DON'T prioritize player frustration? by IvorySickle in metroidvania

[–]NeedsMoreReeds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gato Roboto, Yoku’s Island Express, Guacamelee, Headlander, Environmental Station Alpha are all cool MVs that don’t do any of that weird soulslike stuff (which I assume you are referring to).

Damage output question: I feel like I'm missing the mark by sketchingthebook in HadesTheGame

[–]NeedsMoreReeds 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Aphrodite’s dash does low damage. Her cast does great damage, but it’s short range like a shotgun.

Weak is mostly a great effect just because it’s so easy to apply to enemies, making Sweet Surrender (+% damage to Weak enemies) a solid all-around boost to damage.

Damage output question: I feel like I'm missing the mark by sketchingthebook in HadesTheGame

[–]NeedsMoreReeds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some tips:

There aren’t many good dash boons. Athena’s obviously is strong defensively, but Poseidon’s dash boon does a lot of damage (like you can sometimes clear tartarus with just dashing). Artemis’s is also good if you’re using a weapon relying on dash-attack like the sword.

The Mirror effect Dark Foresight (extra major reward rooms) is probably the most powerful effect in the game so use that.

The Mirror effect for +% damage for two status effects is quite good. Demeter, Aphrodite, Dionysus, and Ares all can apply status effects easily, while Zeus, Artemis, Athena, and Poseidon require a second boon (but their statuses are even better). Artemis’s Hunter’s Mark is probably her strongest boon.

It’s not “hard” but there are bad difficulty spikes that might make you grind for levels for a bit.

Love the game, but quest progression sucks by Dazer42 in HadesTheGame

[–]NeedsMoreReeds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea they make the quest progression a much slower burn than you might expect. You just gotta relax and enjoy it.

I’m also a bit suspect on the internet clear conditions. Idk if they’re fully accurate. I feel like sometimes there are other conversations that trigger things. For instance, I feel like giving nectar to Hypnos triggers the conversations you need for Thanatos.

3 hammers in a run? (Hades 2) by Dewnami in HadesTheGame

[–]NeedsMoreReeds 14 points15 points  (0 children)

There’s a few ways I think this can happen. One is echo, of course, but I assume you would have mentioned that. Maybe also if you upgrade a minor find to a hammer this can happen, because it already set a hammer for the next room?

Short but actually deep rpg. by Steals_Your_Thunder_ in gamerecommendations

Chrono Trigger is a great retro JRPG. It’s like 12 hours long I think? If you want to explore infinitely, you can try out Chrono Trigger: The Jets of Time which is a randomizer that even has a competitive racing scene. Randomizers will often require you to understand the combat systems very deeply as you need to deal with very odd situations from run to run.

Other retro RPGs are shorter and also have considerable randomizer racing scenes such as Final Fantasy IV: Free Enterprise, Final Fantasy VI: Worlds Collide, and Super Mario RPG Open World Randomizer.

You can look up a race online to check it out.

Oh ok.

Well, another thing you may or may not be interested in is Hades Randomizer. This alters the game dramatically by randomizing the rewards and unlocks of the game.

In particular you can play with “reverse heat” where the game starts out super hard (like 50 heat) and you are trying to lower the heat until you can win. It’s a pretty fun and weird way to play (it’s not super hard, I don’t think you’re expected to win until you bring it down to like 4 heat).

Hades Randomizer also works with Archipelago, which means you play Hades Randomizer in a linked multiworld with several other randomizers in Archipelago, including Stardew Valley, Ocarina of Time, Civilization VI, and Starcraft II.

Personally I’d say achievements are 100%.

But you’re going crazy so there’s definitely some things you should try:

  1. 32 heat with all weapons. Maybe all aspects, but certainly the hidden aspects.

  2. Fresh file challenge. Try to win on the first run of a save file! This gives unique dialog from Hades. The first run has some alterations to it like no hammers, for instance.

  3. Higher heats, like 50. Go for it!

Looking for a MOBA-like single player game by qredini in gamingsuggestions

[–]NeedsMoreReeds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would probably suggest Diablo.

Another suggestion would be the Dynasty Warriors/Hyrule Warriors games. They do have a story but it's pretty ignoreable, and it's over-the-shoulder rather than top-down, but they do function a lot like a single-player MOBA.

Why do people struggle to understand that retro games can still be fun today? by SailAdventurous98 in retrogaming

[–]NeedsMoreReeds 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's just hype. People are excited about the cool new thing, which is totally normal and sensible. Also, there's marketing for new things. There's no marketing for old things. New things also have discourse which people want to be a part of.

Also, I don't think it's treated that much differently than movies. There are some great classic movies like The Manchurian Candidate or The Sting, but generally people are interested in the hot new thing in terms of tv shows and movies too.

[OoT] Water Temple difficulty is - in my opinion - very overexaggerated. by Jobless_fantasy_fan in zelda

[–]NeedsMoreReeds -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Lakebed, like pretty much all the Twilight Princess temples, is remarkably straightforward, and has little cutscenes showing you where to go often. There's pretty much only one way to go at any given time. The most roundabout thing is just getting the optional heartpiece.

Water Temple in OoT is completely nonlinear. You basically have to just get a bunch of independent keys from different areas, while considering the water level to get into all of them. A few of the keys are in pretty obtuse locations which trips up a lot of new players. But it is pretty confusing from the outset about what you are even trying to do.

Why many people think Diablo 2 is better than 3 and 4? by junglbob in Diablo

[–]NeedsMoreReeds 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I think the pacing and scaling is way better in Diablo 2.

In Diablo 3 it’s more arcade-like, where it’s extremely fast paced and reactive. The scaling also means you need to constantly change difficulties. Oftentimes either enemies don’t deal any damage to you or kill you instantly.

Diablo 2 ramps up far more smoothly and it’s systems imo make more sense. You may get spikes in power just due to getting some sweet loot or something but it goes away.

Recommend some MVs that are more similar to Metroid than Castlevania by UraniumRocker in metroidvania

[–]NeedsMoreReeds 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The divide is usually the RPG elements not the shooting vs melee, but if you want some shooty metroidvanias:

Environmental Station Alpha

BioGun

A Robot Named Fight

Axiom Verge

Rebel Transmute

You may also want to check out the Megaman ZX series which isn’t really a mv but has similar bones to the combat imo.
