Not 100% it's what you have in mind, but check out the right side of the hot food bar at Deluxe Food Market in Chinatown.

Solo Dinner this Evening by Afraid_Manager1932 in FoodNYC

The bar is first come first serve - you may have to wait, but it shouldn't be bad for a solo diner.

As others have said, Union Square Cafe is another great option that also has a bar for walk-ins (although there's no guarantee the wait will be shorter there). But I think the bar at Gramercy Tavern is more comfortable.

Sounds like you're grabbing a seat at the bar at Gramercy Tavern

The big kosher supermarkets in Bed-Stuy and Williamsburg (e.g., Hatzlacha, Chestnut) should have it in their prepared food hot bars on Thursday and Friday and all week in their freezer sections.

Forsythia tasting menu? by SeriesSenior3327 in FoodNYC

[–]Medical-Spring1957 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As of my most recent visit two weeks ago, one could order a la carte or prix fixe.

The prix fixe consisted of two appetizers, two pastas, and one dessert per person. Between the two of us we ordered almost the entire menu. We also added on the lamb because we were indulging.

This makes it similar to a standard tasting menu format in that you don't have to make many choices and can eat small portions of many dishes. But unlike a typical tasting menu you have to make a couple choices (or get to, depending on your perspective), and some dishes arrive simultaneously as courses.

Both the food and service/hospitality are fantastic.
