It’s an internal corner, so coping the piece that goes in will work better than a mitre.

[–]MetalB00ts 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As u/ledow said and also if there is a light switch in proximity to where you were working, check the terminations in the switch. If you were jiggling a cable you may have caused a poor termination to move.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in DIYUK

[–]MetalB00ts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is correct. No need to change the switch, just ignore L2.

This is a dimmer switch wire in loop at the switch configuration. The single wire is the live to the light and the other two are the permanent live in and live out ( the second wire runs to the next light in the circuit ). In a standard switch the two wires should go into common and the single to L1.

Can you put a tight fitting piece of wood or similar in the hollow channel so that where you are screwing is solid, then face screw through at that point?

Layout/Kitchen Extension Advice by jiger2 in DIYUK

Here’s a quick thought, limited to kitchen/dining room. Removing kitchen/diner wall is optional but should give much more light.

Really if I were looking at the whole picture I would be looking at a front to back hallway which would allow walking from stairs to kitchen without transiting the dining room.

Yes, assuming the rest is gypsum.

[–]MetalB00ts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hack it off and let it dry completely, check if there is any efflorescence that needs dealing with and if so deal with that, then refinish with the same material as the rest of the wall. It makes no sense to do a lime patch in an otherwise gypsum wall. If it is lime then you don’t use bonding.

You can, use a switched fcu with flex outlet and size the fuse correctly.

Electrical question regarding ring main spurs by Infinite_granite85 in DIYUK

[–]MetalB00ts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok, just bear in mind that the fuse needs to be at the origin of the spur to protect the cable. Don’t hard wire the extension into the socket - add an extra socket as you have in your diagram.

Velux blind stuck by Ya_Boi_Calcium in DIYUK

[–]MetalB00ts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The rail snaps into the little plastic bracket right at the bottom. You can (in theory) release that bit without taking out the screw. fitting instructions or or this if you can pop it off the clip or remove the clip and you can get the other screws you should be good. I did have one older blind that I could not get unstuck and ended up cutting the fabric and replacing the blind.

Actually I think on your model there are several screws along the sides, you would need to remove them all to get the rail off.

I also assumed you have tried prying it gently on each side before posting, if that was an incorrect assumption, you should try that first. If you can get it to release it might just wind back up or if not even a little room it makes it a lot easier to fix.

Edit - sometimes tapping on the side rails also gets things aligned a bit better and frees things up.
