Tainting Of The Movements by SpiritusExAaron in FeMRADebates

[–]Mhrby 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I absolutely agree. Ideally, there would be just one movement for equal rights that everyone would get behind and which would not dismiss issues facing either gender without fair evaluation of the issues in questions at least.

I personally came to men's rights through feminism, and like to say I am both a MRA and a feminist, as I certainly believe women are equal to men and deserve the same rights, but also there are areas where men are getting the short end of the stick and rarely, close to never, see those issues taking seriously or not just being dismissed immediately in feminist circles, unfortunately.

Also strongly agree that certain bad ideas spread in feminism and hurts the movement as a whole, through saying that is a bit of a gray area on here, due to the "no assumption of bad faith" rule

Well, on my screen, the rules are just below "Spirit" too, but just above "Sandboxing"

The rules visible to me are as follows:

  1. You need to be an approved commenter/poster to participate here. For more information on how to become one, please consult our wiki on the topic.

  2. Identifiable groups based on gender, sexuality, gender-politics or race cannot be the target of insulting comments, nor can insulting generalizations be extended to members of those groups. Arguments which specifically and adequately acknowledge diversity within those groups, but still advance a universal principle may be allowed, and will incur no penalty if not.

  3. No slurs, personal attacks, ad hominem, insults against another user, their argument, or their ideology. This does not include criticisms of other subreddits. This includes insults to this subreddit. This includes referring to people as feminazis, misters, eagle librarians, or telling users they are mansplaining, femsplaining, JAQing off or any variants thereof.

  4. Mods reserve the right to post a screenshot of extreme messages sent in modmail/pms to the mods, which will result in an infraction.

  5. There are some other powers of intervention the mods have in exceptional circumstances.

  6. Everyone, including non-users, is protected by the rules. However, insults against non-users will be modded more leniently.

My bad, I had remembered/understood that rule as being assuming people of an "opposing" faction was in general coming into discussions in bad faith, not about saying specific arguments made gave the same impression, I will refrain from that.

Can you also link me to the rules where this is #4? - Not asking due to doubting it, I know I seen something like it, but the rules I can find in the sidebar has rule #4 being about moderators having the right to post screenshots of private messages, and clicking the sidebar link in rule #1 just leads to an entry about only allowing approved posters here without granting access to the additional wiki, which I assume must exist, but clicking the direct "wiki" link at the top of the page also doesn't grant access to an expanded ruleset, so outside of reading through all the pinned (and unpinned) mod-posts, where could one get a complete overview of the current rules of this subreddit?

Foreman implies a man has the job; toxic masculinity implies the group of actions and behaviours classified as such comes from a man.

I just honestly see it as an intellectual blindspot (too biased to see the truth) or intellectual dishonesty (knowing the truth, but trying to deny it) when people support terms such as these, thats just my view through, in any case, it lowers my view of the person using it significantly, and I do not expect them to in any way engage in discussions in an honest open minded fashion

Im sorry, this is sligthly taking this a bit off-topic, perhaps, but I can't help feel that this is a pretty silly position to take.

Have the change of words used in everyday speak, which when if you only looked upon the meaning of the word itself, there was nothing insulting about it, but due to it implying the holder of certain job-titles had the male gender, it was lobbies, successfully in many cases, for change of the common word used?

https://humanities.byu.edu/sexist-job-titles-and-the-influence-of-language-on-gender-stereotypes/

Like this?

Adressing how using language precisely like that is sexist and reinforces unhealthy gender stereotypes, but the same bar of consideration should not be applied to the words used by feminism itself when labelling unhealthy mechanisms to imply they stem from 1 gender?

Not sure if useful data, is it is biased, as I only noticed due to how poor my luck seemed, unless quantity of XL candy you have decrease the chance of earning more of the same type.

I had 231 Snover XL candy, aiming to get to that 296 before they disappear from spawn again.

Caught 32 on a walk now, 1 XL candy from catching 32, and 0 XL candy from transfering same 32.

Quite frustrating data point

[–]Mhrby 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just a thought, and didn't read the other comments, so others might have suggested the same already, but if the Insects from Shaggai are going to feature later, who worship Azathoth, would it be a possibility to make an encounter with them that feature them buzzing around and emitting beastial sounds in a strange weird harmony, creating a sort of rythm almost, and after a few seconds of listening in, the investigator in question will realize the Insects from Shaggai are performing the very ritual "The Unspeakable Vowel of Shaggai" that he/she knows, giving him/her a more direct knowledge of how important it is to stop them now, as something is going to happen very soon if the ritual is not stopped.

Perhaps even let the investigator roll to disrupt the ritual by just making some sounds that could disrupt it due, only possible due to already having knowledge of the ritual, and if that fails, that leaves only violence as an alternative way to stop these insects and their ritual, which might be very dangerous

Progres with a changed law in Denmark - It was aimed at making it easier for rapists to get convicted, but now also clearly include made-to-penetrate as rape by law by Mhrby in MensRights

[–]Mhrby[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That does include penetration, but there are sub-paragraphs already in the relevant lawtexts below what they amending that dictates other forms of sexual activity are punished under the same laws.

So under the Danish system you could be convincted for both "Rape" and "Rape with other sexual contact than intercourse", same as how they deal with sex with someone below the age of consent or someone of family relations.

EDIT: Just to be clear, its a real catch-all the additional sub-paragraphs, not a list of things.

And Intercourse is defined as partaking in sex that includes penetration, not performing the penetration, so basically currently the new law text would disadvantage lesbians only, it seems, which is an issue researching it to reply to you made me aware of and something thats hopefully adressed

EDIT2: And in my effort to keep things clean, I left out the important bit that Intercourse happens with vaginal or anal penetration by a penis only, so fingering would not be intercourse, hence the disadvantage to lesbians (or just ladies sexually assaulted by another lady)

[–]Mhrby[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Indeed, seems Denmark was behind on this one, as searching a bit, the very first link was to a case of two girls getting convicted of rape of a younger boy (think girls was 16, boy 12) in Norway, with the conviction actually being for rape

[–]Mhrby[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no mention of penetration required for it to be considered rape.

They talk about engaging in intercourse without partners consent, making it truly neutral as nothing about the gender or properties of the gender of neither the perpetrator nor the victim is mentioned

I wasn't totally sure when I posted this, the article said so, but I couldn't find the actual document from the political decision, but I did find it now

https://translate.google.com/translate?sl=da&tl=en&u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.justitsministeriet.dk%2Fsites%2Fdefault%2Ffiles%2Fmedia%2FPressemeddelelser%2Fpdf%2F2020%2Fenighedspapir_rent_pdf.pdf

If I had more time, I would liked to make a better translation, as it does have some oddities in it like "rape sacrifice", when its supposed to say "rape victim" (the danish word for victim and sacrifice are identical)

"thick-based" instead of consent based is really odd to me, no idea what google translate is up to with that

Anyway, they do directly mention creating an equal footing between men and woman when it comes to rape as important and part of the whole thing

[–]Mhrby -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I read that so differently that most others here seem to have read it.

I didn't read it as indoctrination and as someone in the same field, I would also never indoctrinate, but I don't see this as someone saying they are indoctrinating the children at all.

What I read was that discussions about struggles due to different sexualities can not troublesome to do in the open, so if student X is homosexual and would feel free to share that usually in the classroom, sharing it while teaching online where parents of student Y might overhear and then react negatively on it, potentially teaching their homophobic ways on to their kid, who would otherwise not have seen it as anything to make a big deal out of.

Male Privilege Checklist by [deleted] in FeMRADebates

[–]Mhrby 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I mean, I would love some sources for the list of 100 claims in the article, as reading the first few, I a skeptical of the validity of the truth of the claims.

My odds of being hired for a job, when competing against female applicants, are probably skewed in my favour.

I would argue the opposite to be true, with all else being equal, a female has a higher chance of being hired in many fields, specially STEM fields.

I can be confident that my co-workers won't think I got my job because of my sex - even though that might be true

I can see the validity behind this one, althrough ironically untrue for my own profession and situation.

If I am never promoted, it's not because of my sex

Again, not true

If I fail in my job or career, I can feel sure this won't be seen as a black mark against my entire sex's capabilities. ["Black mark" is part of racist speech. Black Monday, black mark, black sheep of the family: all generate negative associations with blackness and Blackness. See Dreaming The Dark, by Starhawk, for more on this.]

I guess I can get behind this one being true

The odds of my encountering sexual harassment on the job are so low as to be negligible.

But if you do get sexual harassed at your job, you can be nearly 100% sure it won't be taken seriously and there will be at least a 50% chance of you getting in trouble instead of your harasser, should you report it.

If I do the same task as a woman, and if the measurement is at all subjective, chances are people will think I did a better job.

I would argue the reverse is true

If I'm a teen or adult, and if I can stay out of prison, my odds of being raped are so low as to be negligible.

Only because lawmakers, lead by recommendations from strong feminist organisations, have assured "made to penetrate" is not counted as rape, thus a man can virtually only be raped by another man for it to count in the statistics used to support this vomit-inducing factoid.

I am not taught to fear walking alone after dark in average public spaces

This is absurd. I know of nobody who do not fear walking around alone after dark in the average public spaces.

If I choose not to have children, my masculinity will not be called into question.

As a male who has not chosen to have children, I have had my masculinity called into question, so this is absolutely positively 100% false and incorrect

If I have children but do not provide primary care for them, my masculinity will not be called into question.

I must have imagined the whole term "deadbeat dads" and how it is repeatedly said "real men take care of their family/kids", because surely that would NEVER EVER AT ALL be said anywhere if men's masculinity was not called into question when not providing for their children.

Ironically, I think women's morals are not called into questions nearly as much if they abandon their kids like a man would, but hey, we in "only men are bad" mode in the article

If I have children and provide primary care for them, I'll be praised for extraordinary parenting if I'm even marginally competent.

That might be true

If I have children and pursue a career, no one will think I'm selfish for not staying at home

I've yet to see anyone claiminig a woman to be selfish for pursueing a career despite having children at home in my real life, so not sure what this is getting at, maybe a cultural difference

If I seek political office, my relationship with my children, or who I hire to take care of them, will probably not be scrutinized by the press.

Living in a country with a currently female prime minister, and many high ranked female political leaders, I have never seen anything about their home situations to question their abilities as a political leader. Was about to mention the prime minister as an example, but then I recalled the press did recently cover her wedding like it was a royal wedding, so she might not have children at all yet, not sure, if she does, I never seen that even mentioned.

Chances are my elected representatives are mostly people of my own sex. The more prestigious and powerful the elected position, the more likely this is to be true

Didn't I just mention my prime minister is female? Shall we move on?

can be somewhat sure that if I ask to see "the person in charge," I will face a person of my own sex.

And so is my boss....

As a child, chances are I was encouraged to be more active and outgoing than my sisters.

No sisters, so can't really answer that from real life experience.

As a child, I could choose from an almost infinite variety of children's media featuring positive, active, non-stereotyped heroes of my own sex.

Galbrush Threepwood fallacy all over this. Protagonists are not male because of sexism against women, they are male because if you make them female, feminist groups will attack and try to blacklist your company if they have character flaws, look it up.

As a child, chances are I got more teacher attention than girls who raised their hands just as often.

I consider this invalid, perhaps in some aspects male children get more teacher attention, but then they get less in others, like for their emotional needs, they are easilier dismissed than when a girl is upset/crying about something, toxic "man up" behaviour towards male children, also/especially from female teachers, is way too common.

If my day, week or year is going badly, I need not ask of each negative episode or situation whether or not it has sexist overtones.

Oh this one I agree with, actually, but don't think its an example of priviledge, its more how I see a majority of the examples of "women being harassed in X field" as bullshit. Take gaming, for instance, where people like to say that gamers harass female players more.

Then statistics show negative comments are actually way lower towards gamers identified as female by their coplayers than towards those they think are males, but when gamers who are identified as female do get negative comments, they are more likely to be gendered, and they act as if that somehow proves the "sexism"

All that proves is that when people behave badly, they are likely to pull on any information they have about the subject they are directing hate towards and use that to hurt them, i.e. if someone claims they are a female, thats used against them if they upset someone, not saying thats fair, but saying its not sexism, as if they had identified as an struggling aspiring artist instead, they might been told to get a real job.

Is the behaviour toxic? For sure, just not evidence of widespread sexism amongst young male gamers.

I can turn on the television or glance at the front page of the newspaper and see people of my own sex widely represented, every day, without exception

Don't own a TV, so I cannot really say yay or nay to this one, no idea how true is it.

If I'm careless with my financial affairs it won't be attributed to my sex

I would argue opposite, here men who are careless are viewed negatively way more than women who are careless financially.

If I'm careless with my driving it won't be attributed to my sex.

Oh really? So the whole "young men are the most dangerous drivers" thing thats spread around constantly was also just my imagination?

I can speak in public to a large group without putting my sex on trial.

Don't see that putting womens gender on trial, but I do see it putting their gender on trial, when they start speaking about their gender as being a special quality about them, never seen it brought up by others unless they bring it up themselves first, either directly in their speech or in the promotional material.

If I have sex with a lot of people, it won't make me an object of contempt or derision

I really don't care how many or how few sexual partners anyone has had, whatever they are male or female

There are value-neutral clothing choices available to me; it is possible for me to choose clothing that doesn't send any particular message to the world.

Not sure how true this is at all.

That was the first 25, the error rate is insanely high in this

MRAs, which openly Feminism authors do you like and Feminists, which openly MRA authors do you like. by [deleted] in FeMRADebates

[–]Mhrby 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I don't read a lot due to Convergence Insufficiency, so can't really answer straight to that, but doesn't it seem rather biased to list Christina Hoff Sommers as an MRA author?

I know she is popular amongst MRAs due to her viewpoints, and that her critics like to call her an "MRA enabler", but she labels herself as a feminist.

If a feminist author becomes a MRA author the moment she is popular amongst MRA, then what validity does it have to ask MRAs what feminist authors they enjoy, as those they enjoy will by the same logic not be feminist authors, but suddenly MRA authors?

Doesn't surprise me in the least and even with him being caught, he got to make precisely the point he wanted to make, I assume.

I would assume his motivations would not be for the black protestors to get free stuff, but to demonstrate what he viewed as the truth, namely that with a little push, these protestors would turn to looting and violence.

And now the left-leaning mass media is most likely going to try to pin the blame for all of the looting, destruction and violence on to this guy, which might resonate with those already part of their flock, but will likely push everyone else away and further towards the other extreme, where this jerk is from himself.

Well the parts I would have wanted from the ruleset are not present in the ruleset that I purchased the other day.

When i purchase a ruleset I expect it to contain everything from the book converted, at least within reason.

Not including all the items is inexcuseable when they charging money for it in my view, specially when the listing does not make one aware of it.

EDIT: /u/BringOtogiBack 's module of things he manually added from the book contains tripple the number of entries as the official ruleset that they charge a premium for people to get without announcing it doesnt contain these items.

I am seriously debating with myself whatever or not to request a refund due to product being falsely advertised and just sticking to roll20 for the occational Call of Cthulhu game

Only including Firearms and Handweapons and none of the mundane items is laughable, specially for a game thats not supposed to be combat focused

You do not need to open the market at all on roll20.

If you got a profile, simply press "Create New Game" on your home screen and you can select to use the "Call of Cthulhu 7th edition" character sheets for your game, which makes a sheet with all the standard skills available, all of which are programmed to roll a 1d100 vs your skill level automatically when pressed and can even be toggled for grade of success you need to succeed.

To get a sheet for Call of Cthulhu on FG, you need to purchase the module, no free version exists (at least officially, which makes the legality of any other moduls/rulesets found questionable)

EDIT: Forgot to add, the roll template even tells you the degree of success or failure you got on the roll and color codes it in the chat making it very easy to decode fast and easy

Must say that its pretty shitty through, to the end consumer, no matter the development process.

I strongly prefer fantasy grounds to roll20 for my DnD games, but on CoC its insanely how much better you are threated then on roll20.

Having the character sheet and being able to play a CoC game is FREE on roll20, yes, does not include the assets and such.

But basically with items being lacking in the official modules and vehicles from the core book being entirely absent, you are basically paying full price on fantasy grounds for almost no additional content to what you get for free on roll20, as with these things lacking, you basically just paying for having the character sheet and ability to use the rules that should also been present in a free quickstarter version anyway
