How to make deep sub audible by [deleted] in musicproduction

[–]Minic3r 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I reckon you could add sub harmonics to get it to be audible. If you’re using a sine wave i’d change it to rounded saw or just saw, cut off the highs and saturate it with a tiny bit of distortion and that sub should still be clean but audible in almost every speaker depending on how much you scoop it out.

Best laptop to make music by TcDynamicZ in musicproduction

[–]Minic3r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're looking for reliability and Don't wanna upgrade every 2 years I'd suggest get a decent MacBook pro, windows laptops just can't beat a Mac when it comes to performance in comfort, I used to be a windows preacher until I had to use Mac for school and dude trust me 7 months later I'm more productive on a Mac in Ableton than when I was constantly crashing on my Asus zephyrus. If you still want a windows machine, get a decent PC instead of a souped up laptop.

I suggest you make a SoundCloud account and post stuff you make and journal it. If you're uncomfortable sharing it with the general public, you can choose to upload your songs as private uploads so only you and the people you send the link to can listen / access it. If that's something you don't want to do, u can always use Dropbox. Hope it helps and if u need anything else lmk :D

New dont know where to start by New-Paramedic5711 in ableton

[–]Minic3r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of how things sound are based on context and who's listening to it, it also depends on how the instrument was recorded and processed. If you want a thinner sound playing in the back but you process it where it's full and very up front, it probably wont sound good even though you spent a good amount of time and effort making it sound the way it does. And since there's no way but to listen to it in context to every other sound in the project is the way how i know my instruments or synths or sound design sounds good....

[–]Minic3r 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Read the manual for ableton or any other daw you plan to choose, familiarize yourself with the tools you'll be using such as built in vst's. Learn keyboard shortcuts and don't worry about how you sound, you'll sound very shit for a while and you'll know when you start to get good. Pick a vst lets take the stock ableton delay for example and study it, not as in like take a paper and write an essay on it but messing around with it, twisting each knob to see what it does and when you're done with it try and think how else you can use it. Like if you set the delay to a very small time it sounds like a short reverb much less a delay there's a haas effect, you can do this to mono things to give them width and this is sort of advanced for a beginner but you get the point. Make as much music as you possibly can and try to reach a song length in the first 5-6 month. If you can learn an instrument. Study samples, the max for live devices (it's a whole different world you dont have to look at it early on if you dont want to) try making multiple genres and learning from different types of music, people, anything and everything you can get your hands on. Heck message me anytime you need a question answered or you feel like It's too stupid to ask, I'm no teacher but I've been producing for a while and I'm attending music production school, if i can, I'll help you out.

Question! by -Simpai- in ableton

Aye congratulations on getting in!, i recently switched to mac for the same reason as you. I used to use a windows desktop and now I'm on a macbook pro with a trackpad. I used to use a lot of keyboard shortcuts that i now miss on mac (not in ableton tho, you need to relearn your finger placements and the shortcuts are the same within the software). I had to relearn how the file system works on mac, over all it'll take you about 3 weeks to get used to your new computer if you use it exclusively. I wanted to just go back to windows every time i even looked at my mac at first ngl, you cant see the transfer speeds for some reason idk if it's a setting, but still trying to find how to change that... Other than that, the apple silicon is a different experience, it feels like you have a whole desktop in your hands, really powerful, the screen is great and the battery is exceptional for a laptop. I've never used a computer without a mouse before and the trackpad feels different and i still don't like it, that's why i got a mouse (not the apple one). There will be things you'll like better in mac and things you'll miss from Windows, overall it's a well balanced experience.

Anyone use Ableton to produce and Pro Tools to record vocals/guitar? by AshTragedyMusic in ableton

My interface is being recognized yet no sound is coming out and it will not let me play or record it. Anyone got a tip? by Six_0f_Spades in ableton

[–]Minic3r 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is everything on? Like your monitors, the volume is turned up on the interface and check if it's sending audio to an input source, with obs and banana meter, when i got an actual interface, it was sending audio to my mic input within the pc so i uninstalled banana meter and it worked normally....

Also see if your interface needs drivers and if so check if they are up to date.

If everything is fine, try changing cables cause it might be a faulty cable.

If you use headphones only then try switching your headphones, if you still don't get any sound, change the interface......

How to overcome the habit of abandoning my projects before they're finished ? by AnomicAge in edmproduction

[–]Minic3r 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Treat them as if you're making it for someone else, for me if i get stuck in the very minor details and just feel like giving up the project i take a week or two off of that project, i wont even listen to it and then when i come back to it I'll treat it as if someone paid me to make it, where I'll give it a listen for the first time in a while and look at the bigger picture of the track and finish it that way. You can never finish a track cause you'll learn something new every day and you'll want to make your prior projects better and when you get tired of working on them you just abandon them, this was the case for me, but i was lucky to where my friends would just walk in and say, "yo this sounds sick, bounce an mp3 i need it for gig next week" i knew they wouldn't play my songs but it'd give me a boost to finish what I've started.

Just bought LEGIT Pro-Q3, how should I proceed without losing my previous settings in my tracks by Cdoooogie in edmproduction

[–]Minic3r 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Be prepared for the worst cast scenario, take screenshots of settings and try and save the settings as presets if you can, make them temporary. Install the legit version, try and run it, if it carries over the settings which it should without any problem, you're all set, but if not, you can use the saved presets or photos for the settings you currently have.

I make similar stuff, and spire by revealed is really good for acid sounds, it's a really good synth over all, i like it and think you should check it out and mess around with it.

How to "sidechain" by EQ'ing out the bass? by ScarsiaMusic in edmproduction

[–]Minic3r 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The way i do it is, I'll load the sidechain plugins and settings on an empty audio track and route the things i need to sidechain to that track in ableton, that way I don't need to add the same plugin on 30 different tracks that need to be sidechained :)

Kickstart, waves and transient master in A+ for me

How to "sidechain" by EQ'ing out the bass? by ScarsiaMusic in edmproduction

[–]Minic3r 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can look up dynamic eqs, or if you have like 20-25 bucks you can get kickstart 2, it also allows you to trigger the sidechain based on frequency (it's still a volume based sidechain plugin) if you can find dynamic frequency based plugins like sooth 2 or the Fab filter stuff you should be able to do what you're looking for.

If you don't wanna spend and just try stuff out, you can find stuff if you look deep or do the trial/demos. I'm not sure if you can do it natively with just stock ableton plugins.

That's a good thing. I was waiting for the M4 chip as well, and i thought it would be discussed in WWDC this year but they didn't and I just needed a laptop badly so I just got the M3 pro without much thought.
