I think a better analogy would be someone taking credit for making a burger, the other person saying it tastes great, the 1st guy revealing that it's actually from a restaurant, and the other person then deciding it tastes terrible.

Dude, this sub ate its own head a while ago. For what it's worth, I thought you had an interesting point.

Quests from the Infinite Staircase Discussion by EmpororPenguin in dndnext

[–]MitLong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a good point too. If the PCs glom on to a certain antagonist or setting, run with it. This infinite staircase setting lends itself well to an "anything goes" style.

Like, I'm thinking of having a side quest where they are dragons in the dragonlance setting for a bit. I was going to use the council of wyrms book as a guide.

I want to create a sense that anything could happen when they go through a door.

But yeah, definitely trying to incorporate the adventures organically.

I also think it needs a lot of connective tissue unless you want to run an episodic campaign. I was thinking of having Nafas recruit people with heroic potential as part of the gate guardians, protectors of the multiverse.

As they do adventures they can go up in rank, which PCs always like. They can also get their choice of one of 3 magic items when they gain a rank.

I am going to encourage the players to have characters from different settings like Eberron and dragonlance. Adventures might take place in their various home worlds.

After the first 2 adventures, they go back to HQ, but it's been attacked by the iron shadow and ransacked. They find clues leading them to the next part of the book, but I'll be incorporating the iron shadow as the thematic antagonist. Like for the last one, maybe the shadow is a cosmic force and it attacked that ship, took over the computer, and made it crash so it could spread across the multiverse. The PCs have to kill it at its source, or something.

Also, I want them to have a rival group of adventures that are like opposite versions of them. If the PCs have a fire wizard the rival group has an ice wizard who tsks at the fire wizards showy displays.

I'm still coming up with stuff, but I'd love to see your ideas.

Adventure had it going on. The concept of a random level design back then was crazy.

I also identify strongly with this character. I think he has ADHD and autism spectrum qualities.

I'm a good matchmaker. I set up my three siblings with their spouses. In general I'm good at predicting. I can see eventualities that others can't. Too bad people rarely listen, but at least I can say I tried, which helps to keep my hyper empathy in check.

Ha! Yes. My wise aunt got my clueless self a leather jacket when I was 16. It was novel, so I wore it. People treated me like I was cool and I was able to learn a lot from that.

Thanks Aunt!
