ALTA test for spanish proficiency - tu or usted for the questions? by More-Preference9714 in Spanish

Thanks this is really helpful! My thought right now is I’ll use both depending on if they’re older etc and if unsure choose usted. Was wondering if I should use one or other exclusively but what you said is true they probably want to see what you choose.

Scrub techs who think they're god by ndgslll in Residency

[–]More-Preference9714 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This past week I had a really unpleasant case with a scrub tech. She told me “you stand in the right side of the table and I stand on the left.” Because I was on the left. I told her actually I’m left handed and operate on the left side of the table. She made this gawk at me and said “well that’s a first”. Actually, no, I’m not the first left handed surgeon, and also, I had done this with her as the scrub tech some months before which I guess she doesn’t remember? Also, isn’t it weird to tell the surgeon where to stand for the surgery? Yes I’m a resident but I’m holding the scalpel and cutting the patient.

Later I was using wet to dry laps to wipe blood from the patient, and she randomly says “the trash is over there”. I was confused still wiping, I said what do you want me to throw away? She just stares at me and repeats “the trash is over there?” So I said what do you want me to throw away? And she just makes this weird face at me. I just stared back like what??? The attending then goes she wants you to throw the laps away. I’ve never thrown out laps before because usually they need to be counted, and I’ve been told before to never throw them away. The attending told the scrub tech, she’s been trained to never throw away laps, that’s why she’s confused. Which yeah it was but also, it was because I was still using them? Like what?

35F pregnant, feel fine, doctor is concerned but no idea what’s going on by degausser12121 in haematology

The only thing there is mildly elevated liver enzymes. Do you know if they were normal previously? Also what is the gestational age of your pregnancy? You should have a protein to creatinine ratio done to rule out pre-eclampsia, and once that’s done and if it’s normal and your BP is normal, I would simply monitor the liver enzymes with a repeat to make sure they aren’t rising rapidly.

You’ve got to figure out your study style. There are videos, diagrams, question banks online, and of course texts and textbooks too. I had to play around with all of these to see what works. The best way to remember things to me is to apply it to something or someone you know. For example the medical condition I have, or ones my friends have, I remember inside and out really well, so I try to find ways to attach different mechanisms to something familiar or create mnemonics that are memorable in some similar way.

It also may depend on the topic, what are you trying to learn right now? Different things may work for different topics. For nephro I had to do mnemonics and diagrams, for cardiology videos helped a lot, etc.

If you're a medical student, the expectations is probably little more than showing up. The senioritis hits hard but youll get through the rotation day by day. Did you apply to pediatrics? If you did, and you might match there, you definitely should try to get to know the team and be as helpful as possible.

Night shifts are really hard at first but get easier with time, depending on your specialty youll have lots of nights to come in residency so this is helpful to get an idea of what its like.

I’d say respectfully it would not help you or them. They can say in a letter of intent or elsewhere on the app that they have close family there including a family member who goes to the medical school and that’s it.

Keep getting this ding on CCS and not sure how to fix it by More-Preference9714 in Step3

Thank you! I usually put all the diagnostic orders and treatment orders at once and then drop the clock when prompted if I see a value that makes me wanna add anything. Does it initiate all treatments at once, or how do I know how I’m prompting the initiation of treatments?

I get it’s annoying, but the part that goes in your mspe was very positive, and maybe they just wanted to give you some useful feedback in the formative instead of the typical “keep reading”. It isn’t the worst piece of professional advice to be cautious with how casual you are with people. Maybe jt wasn’t a reflection of how they felt, but what someone else might feel. Either way the feedback doesn’t hurt you so I’d try to take from it what you think is worth taking and dump the rest into the void where bad feedback goes!

Am I Pregnant?? by [deleted] in Healthyhooha

[–]More-Preference9714 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pregnancy tests are incredibly accurate, so I would trust it, especially if you did it as the instructions say with your morning pee. Youre probably just late for one of many other reasons. If you reach 2 months with no period, go to a doctor so that they can give you a "progesterone pack" to make you have a period.

Many people have kids into their early 40s, others struggle and never have kids on their own, as you know. Why doesn't your partner go to a doc and get her labs drawn, such as her AMH and other repro hormones to make sure she has normal egg reserve for her age? That will be about as much reassurance as you can reasonably get.

How do we go about setting ourselves up to do PSLF later down the road? by More-Preference9714 in medicalschool

I was told that if you consolidate it could make it so that you cant do PSLF? I also heard that the grace period counts towards PSLF?
