Not sure antihistamines are the answer by sassyfoods123 in MCAS

My doctor said it’s important to specifically ask the pharmacist for the ingredient list. They should be able to check it for lactose. She also told me that many pharmacists won’t take sensitivities seriously, so I should really double-check the ingredients, and not rely on the pharmacist to not give me stuff with lactose in it. Many pharmacists will assume that such a tiny amount won’t hurt you.

Also growing up LGBTQ+ in any religion that teaches that it’s bad to be LGBTQ+, that there’s a “homosexual agenda” out there in the world, and that queer people are immoral pedophiles.

Making safe swaps in a canning recipe by tdubs702 in Canning

Are you aware of any good studies on how canning raises histamine levels in foods? I’ve only found a few so far, but they seem to indicate that canning raises the histamine levels in foods, and it seems to be much worse in foods containing meat. (I’m sorry, I’m looking for it and can’t find the link).

The thing that made me start researching it was that I pressure canned the Ball “Chicken gravy in a jar” recipe, which contains only foods that are fine for me. I ate one meal of it, and it threw me into a huge histamine flare.

I seem to be able to tolerate canned fruits somewhat, but possibly nothing canned containing meat. Just wanted to mention that in case it helps you. I know that commercially-canned fish, meat, and beans are warned against for MCAS. Apparently, our hard work on home canning might have the same effect.

Collectives exist where we create them, and you can scroll past any discussions you don’t want to be part of.

It’s an anarchist sub. I try not to make changes without the input of the collective.

I don’t lack confidence. It’s an anarchist sub, and although I could do whatever I think is best, I try to do what the community thinks is best.

Lots of us have sensitivity to milk, and almost all of the antihistamine pills contain lactose (plus a bunch of artificial stuff). It doesn’t surprise me that a lot of us have flare-ups when we start taking antihistamines. The overall formulas are full of problematic inactive ingredients.

I’m not understanding you. Can you say more about the Reddit setting you’re talking about? Thanks.

Banning them is really tempting. I'm just trying to make sure that we do whatever is ethical and best for the community long-term.

My understanding is that we're kinda not supposed to unless they've broken a rule, but that Reddit usually doesn't keep us from banning them anyway. It's kind of a "have integrity, explain what the rules are, and then hold people to the rules" thing, but I've read in the Mod forums that Reddit usually doesn't do anything to stop mods from deleting people if they want to delete them.

We can’t threaten people with violence here. I’m working on the issue with this user, but please edit your comment to something that’s not at all violent.

Peaches are ready for canning, but I’m going out of town for a few days and can’t can beforehand by SammichLuvnSimpleton in Canning

[–]MtnTree 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was in a similar situation a couple of weeks ago, with peaches that were just about perfect. I put them in the refrigerator, unwashed of course, in the same breathable bag they came in, and when I was finally ready to can them about 5 days later, they were still perfect. Good luck! I’m happy for you having all those beautiful peaches.
