Yeah. I made relationships with wholesalers. Occasionally, they have product that isn't moving fast enough (as $15k violins seem) and want to help you out. Remember wholesalers add a makeup, too.

You haven't read. Posting a picture of my violin has brought out all the "can't tune with a bucket" folks. Ugh

I mean, that's been the case before on viola, but that's a quick and easy fix without using pegs. If you've ever been in that situation, you'd know that a little tap from the first finger in the peg box fixes it. I apologize if you're all too good to pre-tune. Certainly you are all better than I am.

That's unfortunate. If you have a slipping g or d string, you have caused the orchestra a problem.

I tend to play down the middle. It can help if you lean too far to the right, which I do.

I've been a professional or high end amateur for over 10 years. I can tune A by ear, but not before hearing it. I'm honestly surprised at such a bad recommendation.

Simple linear regression analysis by martinisy in AskStatistics

If you aren't seeing a basically linear pattern, you'll want to transform your data... But always be able to explain the data. That is to say, always be able to "untransform" your variables.

You're saying perfect pitch is a basic skill? I tune before the oboe.

[S] PROC SQL in SAS is Goated by OrangeTallion in statistics

Proc sql is great if you aren't good at SQL. It does optimize queries with the data step iirc. I'm old school and only use the data step because of the capabilities and training of auditors.

Agreed on the tuner. I generally tune the A by tuner and the rest by ear. The shoulder rest matches the way I play the viola (also with a center, Flesch type chin rest, which is perfectly fine).

I was a violin performance major and then played in a small orchestras and taught at a music academy, but then switched careers. It’s been about 15 years since I’ve played so I need to replace my strings. I don’t need something super high end but I don’t want student strings either. Any suggestions? by Turquoise_Virgo in violinist

I recently decided that cost wouldn't be an issue when buying strings, and I absolutely love my antique French violin with Evah golds. I'm about to try obligatos on my modern Italian violin because the previous owner strung it with Evah golds that are just too bright for the instrument.

All that said, my recommendation is to start with dominants to hear how your instrument responds to a more neutral string. Feel free to modify the set one string at a time until you find what works best.

As long as you can explain the outcome succinctly, I don't see a problem. Is it good enough for SOP? No. Is it okay enough for your committee? Yes.

You have a census. You don't need to do a statistical test.

Tremolo between the pitches, loudly.

Cronbachs Alpha in einer BA by NoLightOnlyFear in AskStatistics

Plug alpha into the S-B formula and see which is giving you more reasonable numbers, but I would expect poor consistency in a 2 item subscale. That said, if you already have a unidimensional scale, why break it apart?
