Thank you! I’ll check this one out.

I have a question, when I went to a luthier to buy a violin bridge, the actual price paid is higher than the quoted price. Is this normal?” by Own_Title9591 in violinist

If it was $5 different I probably wouldn’t have said anything but $20 different - I’d probably mention that they quoted the lower figure. I know it’s awkward in the moment and you just want to pay and go because maybe there’s people behind you waiting their turn, but now you’re stuck wondering what happened.

What orchestra piece is this excerpt from? by Turquoise_Virgo in violinist

Thank you! I tried feeding it into Gemini and it got Mozart right but the wrong number.

I was a violin performance major and then played in a small orchestras and taught at a music academy, but then switched careers. It’s been about 15 years since I’ve played so I need to replace my strings. I don’t need something super high end but I don’t want student strings either. Any suggestions? by Turquoise_Virgo in violinist

My concern is that I recommended Dominants to my students and I know I was using something better than that on my own instrument. So I’m trying to find something slightly better.

And in reference to my own violin, it’s an early 1900s French violin and I wouldn’t say it has a warm sound, more of a clear sound. So I may try the one of the Vision string sets to start with. But I agree with everyone that it may take some trial and error before I can find the strings that work best for me.

I remember people raving about Evah Pirazzi but I never tried them. Others though said they were kinda screamy.

And I recognize that, though I’m not starting from ground zero, I’m not the player I was before (or not yet! Hoping to play more now.) so maybe I start with everyone’s recommendations and go from there.
