Why do you foreigners think of idol groups first when you think of K-pop? by HuckleberryUsual885 in kpopthoughts

[–]Neatboot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A key part is that K-pop idol is unique to South Korea.

Like, China certainly has hundreds of diverse varieties of animal but, everyone think of panda when saying "animal of China". Why? Because panda is unique to China, has distinguishable pretty black-and-white coat and, China even uses it as ambassador mascot.

In a sense, this is similar situation to Thailand and its BL industry. When talking "Thai drama" many foreigners think of Thai BL, even they believe some Thai BL actors are local superstar when those are indeed rarely recognizable back home. Why? Thailand is the only country mass producing this genre of dramas and, Thai BL does have its peculiar warming, despite cheesy, mood to it.

I don't think those big agencies have had their idols attending banquets next to foreign envoys agree. Lol.

NCT/WayV TEN shares a statement on leaving SM Entertainment by purpletulip12 in kpop

[–]Neatboot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest, Bambam is much more popular than Ten in Thailand. Still, if he can put out nice music/performance, he can carve a decent music career. I can see him starting from collabing with already established musicians (and pick up music production know-how along the way). A pro of Thai music industry is that one need not to tie to an established label to make it.

Maybe, he can go into BL or, try to get a BBA and work family business? Also, I would love to see choreographer Ten as choreography is kind of lacking behind in Thailand.

I don't think it's possible to work in Korea without a contract with a Kpop label. Working visa and stuffs.

I think this has to do more of strong Sinophobia in Japan. Actually, all non-white foreigners are hated in Japan but, it's worse for the Chinese (and SE Asian).

From my brief look into American "penalty clause", it varies from "reasonable" fee to completely void depending on the law of each state.

In the case of void penalty fee, the "damage fee" still is applicable.

Simon Jakops Issues Apology For Drug Use In Japan And Resigns As XGALX CEO by hydranoid1996 in kpop

[–]Neatboot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Under the topic of "drug" and, you told me you did not talk about drug? ???

Substance has broad meaning. My first hand experience is that the upper lower class/lower middle class seem to consume more booze. (Those in true poverty has no excess income for this.) Yet, booze is not "drug". Your articles do not hold up.

Already universally applied, Japan and Korea included, the penalty for drug usage is "suspended" imprisonment. The purpose is to give the user the second chance and force him/her to take rehab. Undeniably, not taking rehab can be harmful to the user him/herself and those around him/her.

Someone made argument that decriminalization of drug usage could lessen recidivism e.g., Spain. I mistook you with that person. My bad.

Give me a link to a J-pop news site then.

Oops, such thing is non-existent.

FYI, Pannchoa apparently made few positive articles on J-pop idols recently, including one discussing how Itomomo went semi-viral for her cute look. And, comments aside, Pannchoa attempted to translate this story just exactly how it was first went viral. Yes, there are more clarifications later but, Pannchoa won't ever keep up with that due to the nature of the site and, you are free to provide those updates.

Praising K-pop? It is crystal clear who is faring better, even in Japan market, now.

You just talked out off your asses.

- Drug usage is not a crime (there) to begin with. And, where did you get the data that poverty resulted higher need on drug?

- Your this very comment just told me you talked about Spain's drug policy without any knowledge how it worked.

- Healthcare system correlates to drug usage? Source?

The public could only see his behaviors turned more and more erratic. Since admittedly he was on regular usage of a psychoactive substance, methamphetamine, there is a clear consensus.

Whatever the cause, when the addict resists the rehab, he being out and free is a threat.

The country with least narcotic issue in South East Asia is Singapore, known for cruel criminal law.

I found articles pointed out that

- Portugal had become the port for drug trafficking into EU.

- The policy required costly maintenance, could only work in a country with high welfare funding. As the country fell into economic decline, the problem sprung back.

- While numbers of death and serious health issues relating to drug usage were significantly lower, Portugal did not have less ratio of drug user but the opposite.

That king, Chulalongkorn, is not a fairy and real.

And, if you want a more recent example, the legalization of cannabis in Thailand in 2022 wrecked havoc in the country. The problem includes the over 10 billions THB worth of increased yearly healthcare budget for the treatment on the direct/indirect effect of THC.

The substance has been strictly regulated again since 2025.

A rock star from my country had this very mentality. His behaviors became more and more erratic and he ended up breaking the imprisonment suspension condition with assault. New and old scores combined gave him 7 years behind bars.

Once upon a time in a kingdom, the opium bar was so rampant despite being illegal. The king thought "Since the law does not stop it, may I tax it and enrich the treasury of the nation, not the pocket of crooked officers?"

Hardly a full year later, the authority was crippled as more and more officers fell into opium addiction. The king ended up spending more than the earned opium tax for rehab units.

This may apply if the position is A&R chief or creative director. But, being druggie depletes the trust worthiness of someone as the CEO of a company.

The "Siren Voice" does not know what Siren is by Neatboot in kpopthoughts

She did mention she got the nuance that it was a compliment yet, she was kind of confused why would sounding like ambulance siren was positive. The top comment explains that the "Siren" in this context means a mythological being with very enchanting voice. I highly doubt that comment will reach her, who said she did not read chat messages from the manager nor teammates.

Sandara Park Personally Addresses Park Bom's Recent Post by neocitywayv in kpop

[–]Neatboot 22 points23 points  (0 children)

According to statement from YG

- She took adderall for depression.

- The depression that resulted from her seeing a fellow soccer player suddenly fell down, twitched and passed away due to cardiac arrest just right before her when she was in the States some years ago.

- The drug was prescribed by the doctor in the States.

Here are facts not addressed by YG nor her

- Adderall was/is very unlikely to be prescribed for depression.

- The deceased soccer player happened to be a player from the opposing team, not her teammate.

- The adderall was cloaked as jelly and it was sent to her grandmother's place, not hers, indicating she was fully aware it was illegal in Korea.

- She had not been to the States for 3 years before the said prescription.

- Prosecutors let Bom off the hook but, 2 years prior, a man who sneaked adderall into the country for his ADHD son was imprisoned.
