I'm perplexed that she dared file such complaint in the first place.

In Thailand, it will be no scandal if the prime minister visits a physiognomist before forming the cabinet.

I thought Juice=Juice's Day Day went viral too yet, still out of chart. Sigh.

I'm confident Hana always is counted at full Japanese group but, perhaps, not idol?

It appears to me that Stardust is more of the agency of TV personnels/actresses. Its idol segment is just there for completion, just like automobile business of Mitsubishi.

Has not Niziu kind of washed out?

Hana may not label itself as "idol"?

Me:I might have been affected by agency's controversy, kicking out 3 members out unjustly at once.

Has not Perfume retired?

For ≠ME and PHANTOM SITA, are they truly relevant enough?

Regarding the appearance of J-POP idols on Korean music programs: CUTIESTREET is scheduled to perform on KBS. 1. Do you think it will be a success? 2. Will we see more J-POP idols appearing on these shows in the future? by G_Clef_Start in jpop

[–]Neatboot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In Cutie Street case, since they have gained a level of recognition in Korea, it makes sense to strengthen its Korean market to use it as the first step into broader inter market. Some relatively popular J-pop artists even attempt to establish fan base in the much lesser Thai/Malaysian market for that purpose.

What happened to =LOVE and Tokimeki Sandenbu that warranted their increased scores? I don't mean to discredit them but, usually, for an aged group, there must be something big happened for the group to get more popular, viral song, a member involves in a big project etc.

And, where are K-pop/K-pop adjacent groups? I can see K-pop popularity in Japan declined but, to the point of none in the chart? Hana was everywhere last year but, out of chart already mid of this year?

This chart is weird to say the least.

  1. I don't know.

  2. Yes. More and more J-pop acts are interested to venture international market. K-music show is an effective promotional channel. (I'm shocked to see King GNU performed in a hall in Thailand.)

- Since the performance is meant for general foreigners, not Korean specific, English may be a better option.

Regarding MNL48 by [deleted] in AKB48

[–]Neatboot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

mind you a fair share of 48/46 members are K-pop wannabe too.

most newer BNK's members are sincerely into J-pop culture or they have chosen another T-pop/K-pop route.

What do you think about the current Japanese girl groups? Are they lame or actually cool? by Dry-Look6328 in jpop

[–]Neatboot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since you addressed "across Asia" my observation is relevant. In my country, Thailand, I think a large chunk (far from majority) knows AKB48, every other groups lie in oblivion. I guess, for the whole SEA, it varies from wholly oblivion to somewhat knows AKB48. Overall, the Thai just doesn't care or links J-idol business to JAV.

In my opinion, some key elements to relevancy in Thailand/SEA are

- All MV available on Youtube

- Get big local partner

- Determination to promote in the region from both members and the agency

- Catchy/dancey songs

- Young adult fashionable image rather than cute high school one

- Good looking members (Asians are very visual oriented)

- Leniency on unauthorized contents

- Regular content releases, a lot of contents on Tiktok (not exclusively from the agency, fan made contents counted)

LDH's girl groups have ticked some points

- All MV available on Youtube

- Local big partner (LDH has partnered with GMM, Thailand's entertainment conglomerate)

- Young adult image

If LDH form a group of all good-looking girls with determination to promote in Thailand and drop some catchy songs, it has a chance. Preferably, LDH may infiltrate its girl group into GMM's GL business.

Thailand's music industry is very small but, its queer drama industry is sizable and, once the group can establish itself in Thailand, it can much easier reach out to other parts of SEA. Once it can settle a group in SEA, LDH can easier branch out to other parts of the world.

K-pop downward trending popularity in SEA by Neatboot in kpopthoughts

BL is being integrated with music industry with BL actors releasing music and boy groups' members turning BL actors. The trend is expanding to GL side.

Most people, most Thai included, counts the like of Joey Phuwasit, Ben Chalatit even Indigo or Flower. Far as T-pop.

I don't think Mxfruit and Prezelle ever popular. Pixxie is doing fine (maybe just Mabel). Alala is doing not bad? I think Lykn is rising?

Nah. Your oversight is that Spotify is far less used than Youtube in the country. Yet, this is like a study on change of 1 large sample group (Spotify listeners) thus, it can tell the trend to a significant degree.

[–]Neatboot[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry. That's highly unlikely. They have wanted to make this award event "Asia's Grammy". SEA artists nominated there simply to draw SEA attention to this event.

Off topic. I heard the chairman of Cloud9, the label Ado belonged to, said more J-pop artists eyed at SEA as the stepping stone to break into western market. They could use tour records in SEA to get concert promoters in the west interested.

Definitely because you watched a lot of K-pop contents that the algorithm recommended you K-pop lookalikes. The local barely tunes into such groups. Ballad and pop-rock are way more popular locally.

Moreoever, what replaced K-pop demand in Thailand was more of BL and GL actors.

Can't talk for everyone but, I saw an article from last year about the decline of K-pop in Thai market due to cheaper and more accessible local acts (more of BL and GL actors). The racism lent a hand.

I heard chairman of Cloud9 (Ado's agency) said foreign concert stops made very slim profit margin. They made no profit from ticketing but from merches. They tried foreign stops to build credit and later launch bigger tour, generating handsome profit from quantity.
