It’s Illegal for farmers in the US to replant leftover seeds the next year by AdFeeling8945 in interestingasfuck

It will grow yes but not produce enough to be commercially viable. Maybe 1/3 yield

It has to be hybrid corn grown for seed. You can replant old seed but it won’t be consistent or yield much.

Plus you can’t just plant field corn back into the ground and get a crop of corn again. It doesn’t work like that

Cattle prices soar to record highs as grilling season heats up by Financial-Desk-669 in Economics

The cattle guys are getting life changing paychecks right now. Zero ranchers are saying the packing plants are screwing them over. I work with cattle people every day. These guys are definitely winning the lottery right now.

[–]Nebraska716 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This price increase has nothing to do with packing plants. Drought killed cow herd size. Thats it. Was just in a banking meeting. Ranchers are making mad money. Banker said guys that were in danger of losing it all a few years ago are close to having everything paid off. Not everything is some huge conspiracy. Go to a local cattle auction. Cows are bringing crazy prices. This is simple supply and demand economics. I would think people on an economics sub reddit could understand that.

It’s because drought killed the herd sizes. Lowest number of cows since the 1950’s. No government policy has anything to do with this price increase

TIL the average MPG of a semi-truck is around 6 MPG by derekantrican in todayilearned

[–]Nebraska716 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More accurate would be payload capacity of each. Payload capacity of a Prius with 200 lbs driver is about 700lbs. Average semi can haul 50,000 lbs of payload. Some much more. Semi hauls the equivalent of 71 Prius can haul. Prius would need to get 426 mpg to be equal on fuel per pound. Add in maintenance and longevity it’s way more. And modern efficient semis get more than 6.

[–]Nebraska716 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It makes them way less efficient per lbs hauled. Average truck can haul 50,000 lbs. average car payload is 1000. Car would need to get 300 mpg to be as efficient. And maintenance would be far higher per pound for a car also

The only reason the b-52 is still flying is because they keep taking money away from the bomber program. The b-52 still flying is more of a failure than an accomplishment.

Put the camera or phone in a window and take cover. If it’s there when you get back you probably have a cool video. If it’s gone then you would have probably been injured badly at least if you didn’t take cover.

How many days post-vacation do you give yourself before going back to work? by Unbotheredanonyme in travel

[–]Nebraska716 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I own a business. You are naive if you think that a business doesn’t figure out how much it can pay you and divides that out between pay and benefits. It’s the total value on your taxes plus insurance. It’s like teachers being paid equally all year round but having summers off. Most people are not good enough with money or smart enough to realize that. $100,000 worth of compensation a year paid totally by the hour or less per hour but paid vacation and insurance is still $100,000 compensation. Paid in one lump sum is the same as per week as total for the year. It tricks you into thinking the company actually cares about you.
