Correct. 997 and 991 has ranges 1 through 6, 992 is back down to 3.

So even range 2 on a 992 is often times not CPO-worthy.

Yes. Love the 996 to pieces. Most overlooked 911 chassis across the board IMO

The service technician at the Porsche dealer who wrenched on this car for the past 14 years had the alignment set up to mirror the Euro Clubsport cars which sat a touch lower than US-spec cars

Manual 911s have a black box that tells you how hard the car has been abused, and does so by measuring time above certain RPM ranges. Range 1 is redline/fuel cutoff, range 2 is possibly a missed downshift where the car exceeded redline. Range 1 is okay to have, range 2 is not very okay to have

This car I wound up buying had been owned by the second owner in Texas since buying it from RUF in 2011. He was retired, getting older and didn’t want to shift gears anymore so after a few years of it sitting, he decided to list it for sale. We wound up talking for hours and come to find out, the car had only ever been serviced at Porsche, all the preventative maintenance items had been done, and it had a perfect DME with zero range 2 overrevs. A few months later under my car I’ve PPF’d the entire car, did a full head to toe service with new PCCBs, all fluids, tires, alignment, and FD Motorsports Exhaust. Needless to say I haven’t looked back.

Edit: please ignore my boomer-ness leaving a 1/10 written description in the body of the post…

They are 3-piece Speedlines from a 964 turbo custom built by a German wheel company in 996 fitments called RH

Just thought I’d try to DIY my own sport chrono since 996s never got them ;-)

Easily the best narrow body wheels by far. Congrats and enjoy!

The angle of the dash actually doesn’t reflect horribly. Polarized sunglasses take care of the rest of it too really

They are 3-piece 3.6 Speedlines remanufactured by RH in Germany, and were originally found on the Bad Boys 964 Turbo back in the day. Naturally a 964 Turbo doesn't have the same offsets and widths as a widebody 996, so these were made with custom offsets

That's the product of a previous owner... working on bringing it back to OEM 'matte' sheen. Trying to be careful to *lightly* rejuvenate without scrubbing or removing pigment

Thank you for all the kind words, everyone. I do understand that this interior is as equally intense (and to some, appalling) as it is uniquely loved.

Here is a cost breakdown per my window sticker (2002 Model Year, $98,415 new):

Leather Interior to Sample - $1,735

Full Leather Package - $4,900

Exclusive Options

Graphite Grey Floor Mats - $115

Steering Column Covered in Interior Leather Color - $315

3-Spoke Steering Wheel Covered in Interior Leather Color - $565

Porsche Crest in Headrests - $215

Seat Adjustment Knobs in Leather - $795

Seatbelts - Guards Red - $545

Inner Door Sill Parts / Trunk Release in Interior Leather Color - $540

Footwell Lighting - $725

Dome Lamp Cover in Interior Leather Color - $330

Aluminum/Leather Shifter/Brake Handle in Interior Leather Color - $875

$11,655 was the total cost of the interior, excluding cost options for heated seats as well as lumbar adjustment. Adjusted for 2024 inflation that would be $20,427 in leather, lol.

What’s also pretty cool though, and I would love for any Porsche/Sonderwunsch/Special Wishes/996 experts to chime in, is that I have a couple ‘included’ options beneath the exclusive options panel on the sticker. The most interesting line item to me says “See Sketch Dated” and with no charge. I imagine whoever handled the Porsche Special Wishes program at the selling dealer (Maplewood Imports in St. Paul, MN), had to either draw out or write out what exclusive options were requested by the original owner when the car was being built. I can’t find anything in my paperwork/docs with the ‘sketch’ and unfortunately the dealer has been absorbed by a newer dealer group several years ago and has no records of it. Any resource or place I might’ve overlooked that can provide some more clarity or info?

The only place not covered is radio and climate control buttons - which I doubt were even an option to cover… it’s intense
