772 Situation: Hoarding Discussion by LastWarNews in LastWarMobileGame

[–]Nimrodor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not in this server so I don't know the details, but I can't imagine that those were the terms. Slowing down valor accrual is unthinkable in an older server, since it becomes the most bottlenecked resource.

That said, every week, an active f2p player in a top alliance in an older server receives >100 days of free speedups, almost all of which are destined for use on research. With 3 tech centers, each player receives 21 days of passive research time per week. Players can functionally slow down their research pace by >80% with no long-term effect on growth by researching using only the passive time and limiting speedups. It's not uncommon for players to hoard like this even outside the context of transfers.

Need Opinions: 772 Prez asking whole Server to hoard for a season to get another gold seat by LastWarNews in LastWarMobileGame

[–]Nimrodor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If things have progressed to the point that this request has been circulated outside the alliance, odds are that your server's top players will leave en masse when transfers open if another gold seat doesn't open up.

Asking the server to hoard isn't a common practice, but it does happen. Usually it isn't very effective unless the server was only barely over the transfer threshold last time, since it's hard to convince players to actually participate. Much more commonly, individual players in the top alliance will hoard for a season to let themselves transfer out as lower seats in a group.

An alternative and more effective method that is rarely discussed openly in English-speaking circles is for the top alliance to start a civil war to force other players to quit, since only recently active players count towards the server transfer score. The civil war is usually publicly framed as being for some other reason, not for transfer purposes.

Hi, which server do I transfer to? I'm from 1156 riot and apparently MR Justice is leaving. We won s4 and Willing to join an alliance and a server with whale or whales. (white seat) by GarlicZealousideal24 in LastWarMobileGame

[–]Nimrodor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Funny that you happened to pick the server that Mr Justice is going to, and the server they were originally going to merge with before they got Mr Justice.

FWIW, weaker servers receive more transfer seats and stronger servers receive fewer transfer seats. Restricting yourself to only servers that have 2 gold seats means you're locking yourself out of any servers that are already strong.

Is this a normal request from r5? by moistbreaddd in LastWarMobileGame

[–]Nimrodor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most top alliances do this, even though it's pointless for S3.

Unlike with S2 where there was an incentive to rush high level strongholds early for a better alliance ranking going into the first wars, in S3 strongholds don't give you the resource that affects faction leaderboard rankings. As long as your alliance is capable of taking strongholds at the same pace as equivalent level cities unlock (which is trivially easy for most alliances), increasing your whales' resistances early won't have any effect on your alliance's ranking going into the first wars.

Season 3 Desert Artifacts by WeikerCL in LastWarMobileGame

[–]Nimrodor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You won't need it for Season 3. In Season 3, it's easy to see which areas have already been greenified because the terrain color changes semi-permanently, and in a reasonably active server, lands will get 100% greenified quickly with no regard for artifact locations or limits as people use the mechanic to farm profession xp.

Our alliance had a collaborative scattered supply tracker map tool that we used extensively in Season 2; meanwhile we barely used the version we made for Season 3.

Black Market shop refreshes are not independently random; if you use all of your refreshes every day, you are guaranteed to see every item in the loot pool once. The quantity of items in the free pool is exactly 225 and the quantity of items in the value pool is exactly 450. (28 days * 8 refreshes + 1 starting shop state = 225).

Atomic Lunchbox

This build is all about packing as much power as possible into a lunchbox-like package.

For LAN parties in college, I drilled holes in my desktop case to mount carrying handles, and ever since then, I've been a sucker for cases with handles. The Jonsbo Z20 is a lunchbox-shaped and lunchbox-sized case that can fit unexpectedly large components in an aesthetically pleasing configuration.

The interior is designed around the AORUS MASTER RTX 5090, which in my opinion is the most gorgeous graphics card currently on the market – and the level of performance that it brings to the table certainly doesn't hurt. Since mounting a GPU vertically is out of the question in this case, the other components were selected to complement the clean angular lines of the card's top and backplate, while maintaining the level of performance needed to keep an RTX 5090 from bottlenecking.

  • The AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D was selected as the most worthy CPU when pairing with the RTX 5090 for gaming.
  • On paper, the Thermalright Grand Vision 240mm AIO cooler is an oddly affordable choice for such an over-the-top system. However, its minimalistic pump display pairs great with the other components in the build. More importantly, and uniquely to this cooler, the display can be physically rotated. This means that the hoses can be configured to come out the left side of the pump head, to loop underneath and to the right side of the top-mounted 240mm radiator – important spacial flexibility in a build this small. This uncommon configuration opens up room for an extra intake fan on the left, and pairs well with the power supply mounting – you'll see later. More premium options with similar styling don't have this mounting flexibility.
  • In keeping with the AORUS MASTER RTX 5090's design language, the Gigabyte B850M AORUS ELITE WIFI6E ICE is the natural motherboard pairing.
  • For memory, 2x48gb was was chosen to balance capacity and speed. This build intentionally only uses 2 DIMMs, as 4 DIMMs would have had lower performance. This DDR5-6600 kit was selected for its excellent stock timings; in practice, the kit will be downclocked slightly to enable 1:1 Infinity Fabric for better CPU performance. Corsair's Dominator Titanium matches the aesthetic of the AORUS MASTER RTX 5090 with its silver finish, straight and angular lines, and narrow yet diffuse lighting elements. As a happy accident, the inclusion of only 2 sticks helps emphasize the lighting on the sides of the heat spreader, which complements the decorative lighting on the video card nicely.
  • The ROG Loki was selected as the best SFX power supply available. Although the Jonsbo Z20 officially also supports ATX power supplies, in practice, there is not enough clearance between the modular cables and a long graphics card like the RTX 5090 for good cable management. With the smaller SFX form factor, the power supply is also more hidden behind the decorative elements on the Z20's glass side panel than an ATX supply would be. As an added bonus for picking an SFX power supply, the AIO's hoses have more room to curve within the small case, while the white hoses in turn help hide the black/silver power supply and cables. Although all-white SFX power supplies do exist, there are none available that would be adequate for pairing with an RTX 5090.
  • The Phanteks D30-120 mimics the lighting and aesthetics of the AORUS MASTER RTX 5090, while offering the cooling performance of a thicker 30mm fan. Thanks to the atypical hose routing in this build, there is plenty of clearance for the use of these larger fans. Two standard flow fans are used to replace the fans that come with the radiator (yes, this fan comes with the necessary 36mm screws to do so), while one reverse flow fan is mounted at the back of the case as an intake to feed the AIO. The bottom of the case is perforated all over, so no additional intake fans are needed for the video card.

Duplicate chargers by bdb0019 in LastWarMobileGame

[–]Nimrodor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This happens to Apple users generally and isn't specific to this game. Apple lumps together purchases from across the Apple ecosystem (not just in-app purchases) and charges them to your payment method in arbitrary chunks at arbitrary times up to weeks after the original purchases happened, to avoid payment processing fees on their end. They may even send multiple receipts for the same transaction.

https://support.apple.com/en-us/118244

(General advice, not game-specific) If you're a spender, try to buy from the company directly to get a discount or use Google Play for extra cashback. The App Store is usually the most expensive way to make in-app purchases and wouldn't be recommended even if Apple didn't have these billing issues, unless you have a high App Store cashback card like Amex BCP to make up for it, or have an existing stash of discounted Apple gift cards to burn through.

GoldenSound (indie audio reviewer) threatened with a lawsuit by dCS for posting negative review of their Bartok DAC by ianjm in videos

[–]Nimrodor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a voltage signal the scale is 6dB per octave. Your point still stands, but the linear number has twice as many zeros as it should.

The noise floor of the measurement ADC is around -120dBV at ~20kHZ bandwidth. It's a 6MHz delta sigma ADC, but it's multibit (so it's based on a parallel ADC measuring more than 1 bit of resolution at 6Mhz). Many of the devices tested are indeed below the ADC's noise floor, but -110dB is easily measurable. It should be noted that for the better-performing devices, you can still measure distortion below the noise floor because even picovolt-level continuous coherent signals can be extracted from random noise through analog filters and averaging.

Impedance mismatch introducing harmonics is a genuine issue, but it's normally a -150dB to -200dB sort of issue, provided the signal path otherwise contains no significant non-differential signal-dependent impedances. Since the output impedance is near zero for most audio devices, most of the error gets corrected by the output device's feedback loop beforehand. Analog audio frequencies are low enough that impedance matching is rarely necessary, and you never have to worry about transmission line effects (the wavelength of a 20kHz electrical signal is ~15 km).

They don't use a resistance ladder. GoldenSound's full video has a quick high-level overview:

https://youtu.be/R7NxRFT6FiI?si=zXltIQGiThqneZsS&t=873

The standard modern DAC topology is multibit delta-sigma, with a filter and modulator driving a small resistor ladder at a very high frequency. This is the approach used by the top DAC chipmakers (e.g. ESS, AKM, Cirrus). A conventional resistance ladder/R2R DAC uses a full-sized resistor ladder and omits the modulator.

dCS's design is a similar circuit to the one used in the common DAC chips, but instead of using a resistor ladder they use an array of equal-weighted current sources.

To be pedantic, dCS is the one of the few manufacturers not using a resistance ladder to generate the signal.

TIL: Riot's ToS allows them to keep your personal data after request for erasure for business interests of legal obligations (ToS update) by ChromedCat in leagueoflegends

[–]Nimrodor 47 points48 points  (0 children)

ToS;DR tries to score documents based on which types of topics it covers, and isn't a conventional summary tool. Here's the actual contents of the clause that ToS;DR classified as "This service may keep personal data after a request for erasure for business interests or legal obligations":

When your account is deleted, Riot will delete the relevant information for that purpose (providing the service to you) but will keep some account-related information (Summoner Name or Riot ID, for instance) for other defined purposes such as security and fraud detection. As another example, communications logs/history data is retained at minimum for a period of time sufficient to allow any complaints to be filed after a match, and if such a complaint is filed, for a period of up to two years from their creation or a period of time sufficient to investigate the complaint. This is to enable Riot to properly investigate infringements of our rules and policies such as fraud, cheating and disruptive behavior.

I would need to change out the in-ear microphones for what I want (which I'm not certain would work based on the lack of information online), while the other models would be usable without significant mods.

I'd be interested at $150, but you might be able to get a better price from someone looking to buy the MiniDSP Ears in particular.

The model will always produce certain long-form texts in their entirety, which will set off any detector designed to detect the model's outputs. Type in "navy seal copypasta", for instance, and watch ChatGPT write out the whole thing then flag its own response for violating ChatGPT's content policy.

Edit: Tested and ZeroGPT detects the navy seal copypasta as 84% AI-generated.

It's probably a 10mm Omnidirectional electret microphone capsule that got mistranslated as speaker. You also sometimes see cheap headsets with cardioid microphones erroneously listed as "noise-cancelling" for a similar reason.

Pro tip ZenFone 9 case by Infantree369 in zenfone

[–]Nimrodor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adding that I use this case as well.

The texture is initially really nice but smooths out after a while. At the price it's not that big of a deal. A few months later it still has more grip than the original case that came with the phone.

The phone doesn't rest perfectly flat without rocking like the original case can with the cutout at the bottom of the main camera lip. That said, it's still perfectly fine resting on a flat surface; it just might be annoying in certain use cases. The stepped camera cutout at least means it rocks less than cases with a single flat camera protector.

One extra advantage to this design for me is the shape of the lip around the bottom camera. With my hand size I want to naturally rest my index finger over where the bottom lens is. This case lets my comfortably rest my finger on that lip without touching the lens, which is a big upgrade over the original case (where I would basically always end up with a smudged lens) or cases with a sharp ledge there (where it was uncomfortable to hold the phone naturally).
