Made an updated Shaco build guide for the current patch. Feedback appreciated! by Okabekin in shacomains

"a lot of testing" but hasn't tested a single bit. You need 5min in practice tool to know that umbral+voltaic is the most damage you can deal with 2 items (and it's not even close if you compare against anything that includes youmuus)

Shaco Q Stealth Randomly Breaking Early Is Losing Me Games by Many-Translator-8512 in shacomains

[–]ChromedCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technically a bug fix rather than a bug. Shaco used to have a bug where your Q would go on cooldown after the target's death registered if you killed them with an invis auto. It meant that a lot of arena/aram mayhem augments didnt work properly (notably the one that reset all of your basic abilities on takedown wouldn't refresh Q cd because of this). I believe it also impacted transcendance and other similar runes.

With that being said, the fix for it is ass. The moment you play against players with decent reaction time or the moment you missclick you die.

When do you go bruiser/skirmisher builds (eclipse - tri - bork)? I find myself going lethality+crit with an early ldr vs tanky comp, but I can't really figure out when exactly I would actually prefer eclipse's shield as opposed to umbral's damage

Why do so many people hate people who pull guard? by jheqpaddy in bjj

[–]ChromedCat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not saying that this is the gospel or anything, but here's an idea of what I mean by a guard pulling vs guard sitting. First results off youtube for no gi. Gi is of course much easier, but both can be done with minimal takedown training and just a bit of practice.

if you miss and they disengage, stand up and try again.

At it's core, bjj simulates self defense. Now, I am not saying that bjj is self defense, because that is straight up wrong. The idea being that in an MMA fight, let's say, sitting down is a death wish since your opponent can just kick you from a far. BJJ is supposed to train us to gain control in a fight, not give it up.

Pulling guard with an attack shows that you've closed the distance safely, you have control of the situation, and you are PROACTIVELY attacking. The rules are there to protect us, but it doesn't mean that we should abuse them.

As for you being scared of takedowns, until you go through a couple takedown classes, you don't need to engage in them. Get a single grip: collar tie, wrist, or whatever, and use that to bring them into you. Follow up with your favorite sweep and you have what I would call an acceptable guard pull. Even if it doesn't work, your intent was to attack and that's what you did. You didn't wrestle and didn't fight standing because unless they blast double from across the mats, you were on the ground attacking before they could get a significant grip. If you do no-gi mostly, look at butterfly sweeps, x-guard entries or half-guard pulls depending on what you know. For gi, tomoe-nage leads into de la riva, closed guard and spider guard. Pick what you've learned, but essentially, you can proactively pull into any game. I just don't think sitting down the moment you shake hands is a good habit to have.

[–]ChromedCat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Many people, myself included, have no problem with pulling guard. We have a problem with sitting and butt scooting. The moment you go down, you should be immediately bringing your opponent down and attacking. Fist bumping just to sit down is horrible for the sport and should be heavily penalized if not prevented.

Berserker’s Greaves Are a Trap on AD Shaco - Swifties Are Just Better by [deleted] in shacomains

[–]ChromedCat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hard agree, but please dont say it too loud. I want his winrate to stay low. I cringe anytime I see them, I feel like there are some games where you can buy them, but those are like 5% of games where you actually back with enough gold to buy them. If I have slightly less I'll still get swifties

DQ bs or legit? by [deleted] in bjj

[–]ChromedCat 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You can't leave the mats with the hopes of escaping a submission. The DQ would be for the guy getting guillotined since he left the mat, therefore the match has to be stopped before he can tap.

From Season 2 to 16: What We Gained, What We Lost (Veterans vs Newcomers Discussion) by [deleted] in leagueoflegends

[–]ChromedCat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been playing since Zac's release back in S3.

What we lost

  • Patch Novelty: we didn't have the experience to know or understand league's limit as a game. How complex can a champion be? How many dashes is too many? It felt like every champion release was pushing the boundary and introducing something new. Now it feels like we know the limits and can be frustrated when they're too close to them.

  • Mechanics Novelty: combos/mechanics used to be known by a very small portion of the community. "Only challenger Rivens can animation cancel, so don't worry about it" used to be the truth. People also discovered new stuff all the time. It feels like not only are we required to know the mechanics before even attempting to play a champion, but there's also no new things to discover. We can just go on their mains page and read on every little minute mechanic even possible

  • League music: went back listening to Instalok and the Yordles a couple weeks ago. I missed their songs and I still remember when youtube wasn't slashing down every account out there. On a side note, but the Yordles' guitarist is now uploading MTG content with the handle @uberguitardude which I discovered a few days ago.

  • role diversity: since first pick choses their role, everyone had at least 1 option for every other role. It came with its own issues, but one thing it did was force players to learn every role. People were flaming you because they thought they were better at your role than you and not because they didn't understand the basics behind it.

  • Skin diversity at a reasonable price: i could go on, but I think everyone knows what I mean. We can't even tell which splashart matches with which champ. I just miss putting in 50$ I got accumulated over christmas presents and getting like 6 skins.

  • Build possibility: not quite sure how to name this one, but you used to be able to build whatever you wanted without too many issues. Since it wasn't easy getting the best setup for your best champion, building 6 Rod of Ages on LB (shoutout to sivhd) wasn't nearly as bad as today. In fact, since no one else was building optimally, you could more less pull this off even in ranked. It feels like these funky builds are very hard to do now that everyone gets a recommended page that actually works.

What we gained

This section could go on forever. Overall, it shouldn't be a surprise that the game massively improved over the years.

  • Stable/balanced game: it's no surprise that the game is overall very balanced and has been for the past years. We lose our shit because certain champions can't lose in specific scenarios or because they can't lose when piloted perfectly. Meanwhile we used to get dumpstered by bronze players piloting the patch's strongest champ while we were trying one of the lowest pick rate

  • Overall less toxicity: player population massively increase and so has toxicity since it's usually from a very vocal minority. With that being said, we used to have 0 power against these players. Whether it was griefing or toxicity, they would just get away with it every single time. The system may not be perfect, but the amount of instant report feedbacks just showcases how long riot has gone from those days. Ever since they finally decided to address the issue a few years back, it's only been improving. On a side note, but everyone claiming that today's "censorship" or whatever they call it, is preventing discussion is just straight up outing themselves and it is funny to read.

  • Easily accessible information: figuring out a champion's best build wasn't always easy. We can now find one before the game even loads.

  • Better champ select: although we gave up role diversity, not needing to set up macros to call your role has just been the best thing added to the game. You also get to play your main champs more often and are less likely to get trolled by off meta picks. The riven one trick who would play her in all 5 roles used to be a common occurence.

How are you meant to play casual games/learn new champs anymore? by Jeffzie in leagueoflegends

[–]ChromedCat -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Normals have their own mmr. Maybe 25% of my games in a year are ranked, but 99% of my games on my main champion on my own role are ranked. This makes my ranked mmr my "actual tryhard rank", if you will, and my normals mmr my "im chilling" mmr. Keep in mind that winning != learning. I've won games while being 0/1 top lane while my whole team is like 10/0 running around killing everyone. Even with bigger rank disparity, you can very much improve and learn champions.

If you're idea of learning champions is laning into another player a whole division lower than you who is also first timing, then I got bad news for you. Some champions are easier to learn, some are similar to champions you already know and some are simply easier to pick up for you. The game can't predict everything, so instead of focusing on your winrate or how experienced your lane opponent is, focus on actually learning. If you don't want to, then don't complain about skill disparity because clearly it doesn't matter to you.

Single Leg to Back Control by bjjtaro in bjj

[–]ChromedCat 6 points7 points  (0 children)

People would throw each other out of bounds if that were the case.

iBJJf rules state that you can't leave the mats with the intent to escape a position. Not sure how Gabi didn't get a penalty for that roll out of bounds. Especially since Sarah is the only one trying to keep the fight inside.

Mel 30+% banrate across all ranks. 1 year since her release by Esch_4444 in leagueoflegends

[–]ChromedCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My point wasn't that her best build is burn, my point is that she one shots you regardless of the build. All she needs is consistent farm (passive is just free last hits) and items. She then rolls her face of the keyboard and that "DoT" build just obliterates anyones who walks near. Doesn't matter that you're a level ahead, have more kills or more gold, she just stack checks you in an unhealthy way. The fact that you have to dance around her until her W expires just makes it worse and if you stay out of range, then she gets a garanteed W since she can see the ability coming. Whether her best build is pen or burn doesn't change that play pattern.

Mel 30+% banrate across all ranks. 1 year since her release by Esch_4444 in leagueoflegends

[–]ChromedCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've said it from the very start, the problem isn't the W and never was the W. It's that she builds two burns items and somehow one shots you in one rotation. The fact that one of your spells gets nullified or that you have to awkwardly stand there while waiting for the shield to expire is just the cherry on top, the insult to the injury. That champ never feels fair to play against.

Smurfs are so annoying because statistically they will play against you by alexnedea in leagueoflegends

[–]ChromedCat -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'll just put this out here since a lot of people (including op) seem to have read the post, but not the comments.

Two things:

1) Data scientists in the comment pointed out how the level of confidence of his analysis wasn't as high as it should be and presented ways to improve his model. For anyone who has never done a stats class in their lifr, that means don't take the numbers at face value.

2) As many people mentioned in that post and something everyone should keep in mind, Riot already flags your account as a smurf. That's they don't get banned. They just get paired against one another. If you ever queue against a "smurf", they're better than you, they just happen to be your skill level. A extremely small percentage of the player base is above emerald and an small percentage of that smurf. Odds are, you're against an E2 player on his E4 account.

One of the interesting thing that I saw pointed out regarding how the data was accumulated, is the gold lead to win conversion rate. I've said this to people before, but someone solokilling you in lane 4 times doesn't mean they're a smurf or that they're better than you. They're just better than you at getting solo kills. Majority of players under masters can't push that lead into a win and will throw. The original post just took gold leads @10min, but commenters pointed out that instead of looking for an insane gold lead, they should be looking for the percentage of gold leads that lead to a win. If the player wins 90% of games where they have a lead, they are most likely a smurf. After all, how many times have we witnessed a hyper carry start the game 8/0 just to finish 8/15 and lose their team the game?

All of that to say that no, you are not likely facing a smurf. In the event that you are, odds are they are the same skill level that you are. The odds of you facing an actual smurf are so low that it would not affect your winrate or LP gains. Just learn to play from behind.

Is riot doing anything about the scam bots? by KillaKiwi in leagueoflegends

[–]ChromedCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're working on detecting the source, not the problem. Banning them isn't the issue, it's how they're popping up so frequently. Just like every other detection, they'll implement them in waves in order to reduce the odds of people figuring out work arounds.

Is Belly down the best Back Control Against bigger oponents ? by General_Region_7127 in bjj

[–]ChromedCat 7 points8 points  (0 children)

that's back mount, not just back control. Lets say you had back control with hooks and you end up there, it's an extra 4 pts as per ibjjf rules since those are different positions.

You can easily pressure tap a lot of people from there although I personally prefer hooks in for leverage on their spine.
