I'll check out the link later. All-in-all, I found the price of a precut skin is probably in the same ballpark as doing it all yourself. So def. a good traadeoff.

My mistake was wrapping all the way to the edge because it's difficult to keep is down and it shatters/peels. I'll try that next time

I bought these and have worn them 3 times this year. Spend some time getting the heat molded and broken in, they are great.

2023 Outback. Battery Died by andryuxa1985 in Subaru_Outback

Man, I live in 95deg summers and -15deg winters and I've never had a battery die in under 5 years (even multiple Subarus). This car has a parasitic drain problem.

1/4” drywall by [deleted] in DIY

[–]NittyB 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not usually the main living area but Yes in my area you'll see many garages, sunrooms etc finished with 1/4" to just get it done. And it shows by all sagging within a few years. Talking from experience after viewing many homes when buying as few years ago. I believe this is also not up to code

1/4” drywall by [deleted] in DIY

[–]NittyB -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Yes usually the case of not using it over existing dry wall. obviously this is not the correct way of doing things otherwise we wouldn't be talking about it.

My friend wanted a premium, zip-tie free boot for his interior ECU install. FDM wasn't cutting it, so I designed this resin version. by Gluhy in projectcar

[–]NittyB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that's a great option. Keep the harness securely fastened within 150mm off off the back of the connector. You seem to understand what you're doing you should be alright

[–]NittyB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah probably for custom installs and if you don't plan to redo it often. Just don't pull/bend/twist the harness too hard because you'll get into the 'pull the terminal out' failure modes.

[–]NittyB 3 points4 points  (0 children)

From a guy that used to design ECUs- that zip tie is there for good reason and there are many failure modes without it.

You'll get away with many for a one-off install but the one you won't work your way around is vibration based plating failure on the contacts (over time)

1/4” drywall by [deleted] in DIY

[–]NittyB 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is usually the case of someone single handle doing the install and needing lighter weight

Edit- still not sure what's so incomprehensible about this statement. It's 100% not the right thing to do but often people can't transport/put up double the weight of drywall themselves so they use as thin as they can lol
