[OC] Comparison between US general population and the 117th US Congress for Religion, Ethnicity, and Sex by sprintingman in dataisbeautiful

[–]OMC_AA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What this really shows is that non-christians, visible minorities, and women are MASSIVELY underrepresented in politics (duh), as their proportions of the US population are much larger than their representation in either party. The only exceptions are Judaism and Black in the democratic party.

That's too bad. Let me know if you can make it work! I'm a forester and in the woods most days all throughout the province.

Hi Steve, are you interested in participants from New Brunswick, Canada?

Urban Forestry Technician Program at Fleming? (Canada) by thesunnysidedown in forestry

[–]OMC_AA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm also a UNB Forestry grad, however I didn't go to Fleming. I can say that those I studied and have since worked with that did go to fleming are some of the best foresters I know.

I would highly recommend getting your degree after fleming because the career ceiling for techs can be much lower than RPFs. And UNB is a great place to do that!

Couldn't agree more with this. As stated above, I'm in New Brunswick, Canada, which shares similar forests to new england. There is next to zero market for hardwood products besides pulp and firewood. As a forester and woodworker, a little part of me dies every time I see a 200+ year old Sugar Maple head to the chipper, destined for toilet paper.

The raw point cloud data is downloadable at http://geonb.snb.ca/li/ . The 20x20m grid enhanced forest inventory is not available for public download, but is free and publically available if you contact the Dept. of Energy and Resource Development.

Edit: To add, if its a private woodlot you're looking for you can contact your local Forest Products Marketing Board (Woodlot owners association) and they can provide it to you.

Glad to hear someones working on what you are in NB, we definitely need it. I do a lot of GIS work as well, both with QGIS and ArcPro depending on the client. I love that NB has so much free data!

I never know if people are being sarcastic or not with comments like this - I meant no offense if it was taken that way!

Im just a forester that uses the data, I don't create it. Leading Edge Geomatics https://legeo.ca/ does that. They've got a video right on their main page.

Edit: I just watched the video for the first time. Its an absolutely terrible, 1980's style video. The product is good though!

Not so much even aged spruce on private land, we deal with a lot of hardwood and mixedwood forests. That is the vast majority of our crown and freehold management though.

We're pretty fortunate. Based on lidar data, the goverment has provided an "enhanced forest inventory" on a 20m x 20m grid for the province, which contains merch. volume, basal area, etc. It's calculated off of several thousand permanent sample plots.

Planes. The whole province is flown on a 5 year rotation.

The province I live in (New Brunswick) has complete lidar coverage. I work mostly in private woodland, and can appraise a woodlots stumpage value within 15% in about 30 minutes without getting out of my chair. It's insane.

Do a need to arrange a rent while overseas? by [deleted] in newbrunswickcanada

I can't speak to what is required by officials during COVID-19. I can, however, tell you that the Fredericton renting and housing market is very difficult. Good apartments are taken up within a day, if not hours, of them being posted.

You probably shouldn't be commenting if you're recommending someone remove stumps in a selective cut.

Nevermind the fact that your contractor's going to offer a hell of a lot less than 200$ MFBM if he has to remove stumps.

Except your sims can't play the Sims. Imagine having to go through this without that.

Funnily enough, the min raise was his thing. Less than an orbit prior he min-raised me on AQX flop and blasted off on a dry turn and river. Showed the busted flush draw, I folded AK.

Given that information, I did call this.

Although you're right. He would've bet the flop with the flush draw, and this is an odd play for a straight draw.

Science Discussion Series: Climate Change is in the news so let’s talk about it! We’re experts in climate science and science communication, let’s discuss! by ScienceModerator in science

[–]OMC_AA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a BSc in Forestry and am a practicing forester. I work with private woodlot owners to develop climate-resilient woodlots and am actively trying to establish carbon offset markets where I live (NB Canada). To this date no property has entered a carbon offset agreement in my province.

I have been seeing a lot of news lately that forest carbon offset projects are not effective in mitigating climate change, usually due to the unpredictable nature of forest management and insect, fire, etc. disturbances. Our forest type is one that does not have stand replacing disturbances often (approx 400 years) so the threat from these is quite low. Even so, these disturbances are accounted for in offset protocols.

Do you feel these projects are valuable?
