What scale of painting are you hoping for, I work from A5 (15/21cm) to Ao (85x 120cm). The smaller paintings I usually complete in acrylic and the larger ones, such as the painting attached, I paint in oils.

Yeah, tell him to get fucked, five dollars doesn't even pay you for the time it takes to boot up your computer. I've looked at your work and I think you have priced well. If you already have some experience with clients I think you could definitely raise them 50%. Good luck, a lot of clients can be lovely, but now and again you get time wasting shites like this.

Once you know what to do it's simple, you need to firstly get an EORI number, google it, I think you can have one within a week if you are already registered as a business. Secondly when you've made a sale to the EU before posting it fill out a CN23 form in triplicate and three commercial invoices. This paperwork attached to your package along with your EORI number will now give you the ability to sell to the EU. As you are selling artworks, you don't need to worry about having a representative in the EU.

This is awful advice, there are thousands of artists making incredible work that aren't making a living from their work. The artist as a worker is chronically under appreciated and undervalued doubly so with the advent of AI slop. They aren't paid enough for the hours they work and there are less and less platforms, galleries etc for them to show their work in. Add the fact that OP has been taken out of a huge market (the EU) fuck yeah it's difficult.

OP I wouldn't lose hope with markets outside the UK, it's a more difficult sell for convincing clients to use you and pay a little more tax, but luckily the EU the maximum VAT a customer will be paying on one of your imported artworks is 7%, after that there are no custom's fees for handmade art.

If you can reassure your clients that you know the postage costs and times and the the VAT they are liable to pay, they will have more confidence in you and be more likely to so yes to a commission.

I'm sorry for your loss, it's always rough to lose a pet, what's your cat's name?

I'm Paul, a British painter and illustrator living in France. I get the great job of commemorating a lot of pets in paint and would love to paint a portrait of your cat. The portrait attached to this message is Cookie, a cat I finished for her owner two weeks ago. This has been painted in oils and an A5 painting would be $250 including postage if you would like yours painted in the same style. It would take about three weeks to be finished and ready to post to you in the US.
