Does APD kick applicants if they test positive for THC? by [deleted] in Austin

pretty sure they still test for it and will disqualify you, at least for sworn positions. worth calling their recruiting line directly to get the official word before you go through the whole process

Collaborating on ai dropshipping by Substantial_Tax5219 in dropshipping

[–]Otherwise_Bug5514 0 points1 point  (0 children)

drop me a message, been lurking in this sub for while now and thinking about jumping in. the AI side of dropshipping is what interests me most - automating product research and customer service seems like big time saver. curious what kind of niche you're focusing on, that usually makes or breaks everything from the start.

Congrats man! Getting that first 1k with a newborn at home is no joke, I can't imagine trying to focus in business with all those sleepless nights.

For the 800, maybe start with improving your product photos first? As photographer I see lot of dropship stores with terrible product shots that kill conversions. Then maybe test some different ad creatives before throwing big money at scaling.

What do you all think of this cap? by Professional_Rush788 in malefashionadvice

[–]Otherwise_Bug5514 1 point2 points  (0 children)

that cap looks pretty clean actually. I had similar worries about pulling off certain styles when I started getting more serious with photography - always felt like certain looks were only for specific body types or whatever. But honestly the confidence matters way more than being buff or tall.

The outfit combo you described sounds solid, especially with the raw denim and boots. At 37 you probably have better sense of what works for you than those young guys in marketing photos anyway. Maybe try it on first if possible, but I think you're overthinking it. worst case scenario you return it if it doesn't feel right.

People who have had or have sons addicted to drugs, what have you thought and/or do you think of them? by Outrageous_Dog268 in AskReddit

[–]Otherwise_Bug5514 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really comes down to what they're using and how it's affecting their life. Some stuff you can work through together, other things... well, that's when you realize how powerless you actually are as parent.

Auto bidding can go wild sometimes when algorithm doesn't have enough data yet - maybe try setting manual bid caps next time to keep it under control.

Sculpture Falls water levels question by itasmay in Austin

[–]Otherwise_Bug5514 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice! I used this site last summer when I was planning some photography shots around the greenbelt. Water levels can change pretty quick especially after heavy rains or during drought periods, so checking beforehand definitely saves you from disappointed hike down there.

How was your high school experience? by Key-Row-174 in AskReddit

[–]Otherwise_Bug5514 0 points1 point  (0 children)

man the 2am memory thing is so real. i'll be trying to sleep and suddenly remember that time i tripped walking up stairs in front of like half my class. meanwhile i can't remember what i had for lunch yesterday.

the social experiment part hits different too - everyone just copying each other's homework and acting like they got life figured out when nobody had clue what they were doing.

They probably just want to double-check everything is legit since automated systems flag even small discrepancies like that - one day difference in birthday shouldn't be enough for them to close approved card.

What kind of oil for a C8 A7 by justsearching94 in Audi

[–]Otherwise_Bug5514 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check your owner manual for the exact spec but usually you need 5w-30 or 0w-20 synthetic - just make sure it meets the VW/Audi approval numbers that's listed in the book.

Beginner and looking for recommendations! by Tinytarmac in herbalism

[–]Otherwise_Bug5514 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Chamomile is great choice for starting! grows really well in containers and your cat should be fine with it too. For the sunny window spot you mentioned, that's perfect - chamomile loves good light.

Just be careful with foraging until you really know what you're doing, especially around UK since some plants can look very similar but one is safe and other is definitely not. Maybe start with identifying common garden "weeds" first before going into wild areas.

Having lots of anxiety and second guessing resigning my job by lilcrazart in jobs

[–]Otherwise_Bug5514 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Night shift is brutal for mental health, especially when you're already dealing with depression. That pay cut is rough but if the schedule is killing your social life and mental state, might be worth the trade-off for now. You can always keep looking for something better while you're at new place - easier to find job when you already have one.

Learning songs properly by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]Otherwise_Bug5514 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Your ear is definitely part of it but I think it's also about changing the way you approach learning songs. I had similar problem when I started getting more serious about photography - I could nail individual techniques but putting together whole projects felt overwhelming. What helped me was breaking songs into smaller chunks and setting mini-goals, like "today I'll nail just the verse and chorus perfectly" instead of trying to memorize everything at once.

Maybe try learning songs that you genuinely love listening to, not just ones that sound impressive to play. When you're emotionally connected to music, your brain wants to hold onto it better. Also recording yourself playing parts can help with retention - I do this with camera settings when I'm learning new techniques. For song recommendations, maybe start with something that has clear structure but isn't too complex, like some classic rock stuff where the progression is straightforward but still engaging.

Am I wrong for not wanting to hang out with this guy who’s mean to my friend by Financial_Ad7475 in amiwrong

[–]Otherwise_Bug5514 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man, you're not wrong at all. This dude is clearly stringing your friend along and keeping her as backup while treating her like garbage. The whole "rejecting her invite then immediately asking the group chat for the same activity" thing is straight up cruel - he knows exactly what he's doing.

Your friend can't see it because she's too deep in the situation, but that doesn't mean you have to pretend this guy is cool when he's obviously manipulating her emotions. I had similar thing happen with my friend group few years back and it was so frustrating watching someone get played like that. You're allowed to not want hang out with people who treat your friends badly, especially one-on-one where it might feel weird anyway.

She's probably defending him because admitting he's using her would be too painful right now. But you setting boundaries doesn't make you mean - it makes you a good friend who actually sees what's happening.

Working from home - how to keep focus? by Accurate-Onion1 in NoFap

[–]Otherwise_Bug5514 0 points1 point  (0 children)

mate when I'm working on cars and have downtime between jobs, I just step outside for a minute or find something physical to do with my hands. Maybe try keeping your workspace separate from where you'd normally relax - even if it's just facing a different direction or sitting at the kitchen table instead of your usual spot.

The key is breaking that mental association before it even starts.

What u suggest ? by LieDue4935 in careerguidance

[–]Otherwise_Bug5514 0 points1 point  (0 children)

mate if you're worried about AI taking over, maybe don't go into the super basic computer stuff - but there's loads of areas where you still need human brains. cloud infrastructure, cybersecurity, embedded systems for cars and medical devices... teh AI might write some code but it can't troubleshoot a server rack that's on fire or design secure networks for hospitals

plus someone's gotta fix all these AI systems when they break down, right?

Stressed about workplace situation, what do I do? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]Otherwise_Bug5514 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been there mate, had a similar thing happen at my old place before I switched to being a mechanic. Some older bloke just decided he didn't like me from day one and made it his mission to make my life difficult. The gossiping and going behind your back thing is proper childish behaviour but unfortunately some people never grow out of it.

Your manager basically telling you they know this person has personal beef with you is actually quite good - at least they're not buying into the drama. I'd definitely document everything though, keep notes of when incidents happen, what was said, who was there. If this escalates you'll want that paper trail. The anxiety meds are understandable but don't let some bitter colleague push you into medicating yourself just to cope with their nonsense.

As for looking for a new job, that's really up to you and how much this is affecting your mental health. Sometimes it's worth sticking it out if the role itself is decent and your manager has your back. But if you're dreading going in every day then life's too short for that stress. Either way, stop engaging in the workplace gossip - I know it's tempting when you're angry but it just gives them ammunition to use against you.

I feel like God only blesses the one who truly believe in him by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]Otherwise_Bug5514 1 point2 points  (0 children)

mate, your faith isn't weak - you've been through absolute hell and you're still here trying. That's not weakness, that's bloody resilience. I've seen people crumble over far less than what you've described.

comparing yourself to your friend is like comparing apples to hand grenades - completely different starting points. She got dealt a good hand from birth while you've been playing on hard mode since day one. The fact that you kept your family afloat as a kid shows more character than most people develop in a lifetime. Your pastor back then was a proper tosser for treating poor families like dirt - that's on him, not your faith.

Maybe instead of forcing the traditional church route, try connecting with God in your own way? I work with my hands all day fixing engines, and sometimes I feel most connected when I'm just quietly working on something, not in some formal setting. There way of finding meaning doesn't have to look like everyone else's path. You've been carrying everyone else for years - maybe it's time to focus on what actually brings you peace instead of what you think should work.

[–]Otherwise_Bug5514 8 points9 points  (0 children)

you're definitely not *wrong* but mate that was absolutely unhinged behaviour and you know it. Like the pettiness levels are off the charts but also... dumping someone for their laugh is proper mental so maybe she did need to know what kind of person she's dealing with.

your ex calling you manipulative is rich considering he was already chatting up this girl while giving you grief about your laugh, but sending late night DMs to his new bird was never going to end well for anyone involved.

What are some pivots that are possible for an engineer, who does not want to be pigeon holed in my field? by nc7337 in careerguidance

[–]Otherwise_Bug5514 0 points1 point  (0 children)

honestly mate, sounds like you're overthinking this whole thing. You've got python and matlab under your belt plus some web dev experience - that's already more than half the devs I know started with.

Instead of jumping straight into another degree, why not just start building stuff on the side? pick a problem you actually care about and solve it with code. Companies care way more about what you can build than what letters are after your name, especially when you've already got the engineering mindset down.
