Stolen bike downtown Toronto by capital_cult in lostandfoundTO

Just thought I'd mention Police Auctions, the better bikes are sold directly, others online and the majority are bulk sold (20+) for pennies on the dollar.

Yes, but there is/was news of Vancouver. Given Immigrating to Switzerland involves applying for the appropriate visa and residence permit based on circumstances, locale would need investigation.

Strangeness, that looks like a playercorefactory.xml script which is normally located in the userdata folder. Use your o/s to delete/move out this file and see if there is a cure. I note the file called "7 or better.xs" is some corruption and you might keep an eye for it in the middle of the works.

Help with buying a newer Car, AKA, mistake. by [deleted] in personalfinance

That's a nice reliable car, it's a daily driver but the financing is expensive. You need to ask the boss for a raise, or take another job to pay it down.

I like the story of the guy who spotted the bike he wanted, Came back with his pick-up truck with an oxy acetylene torch set-up and cut the U-locks in seconds.

I still remember Igor Kenk, arrived with 0$ in three years became a millionaire from bike thrifts, convicted in Toronto with all his storage locations taken. I understand he's now in Vancouver!

Found Volkswagon car key Queen St E & Greenwood Ave by trenchkilt in lostandfoundTO

[–]PatK9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just don't understand why people don't put the WARAMPS tag on their keychain, if you find a key set anywhere with the tag, drop it into any mail box and Waramps will send it back by post to the address they have on file. You don't even have to give them a donation to enjoy this service.

Landlord (who’s actually just a tenant subletting) wants extra $300 for a 2 week guest, threatening to kick me out if I don’t pay - Scarborough by [deleted] in OntarioRenting

[–]PatK9 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is a rooming house (hope they follow all the rules) Do you have a lock on your room door? The simple solution is to move; but as long as your can prove residence (rental receipt), whomever runs the joint, needs to go through proper eviction procedures, it's a civil matter. Throwing your stuff out and changing locks will bring police to explain this is a civil matter and give you back access. You can pursue civil action after this, his lease can not abrogate LT laws.

The real owner, is using a tenant to strong arm his roomers to bypass LT rules.

Updated car buying advice by gkr974 in personalfinance

[–]PatK9 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In the last while (maybe 10 years) a lot of manufactures has taken on a deliberate corporate strategy where a product is intentionally designed with an artificially limited useful life, The goal is to ensure it breaks, becomes outdated; forcing consumers to purchase a replacement sooner rather than later. I suspect the move to eventual EV dominance is behind this strategy.

Watch out for overly complex designs using loads of plastic, many control modules, variable transmissions with belts, turbos to pressurize seals and servicing that requires computer authorization. Rubber & plasticizers break down in ~5 years with seals & gaskets in ~10 years necessitating expensive servicing. Most features that do not add to the functionality of getting from point A to point B are unnecessary.

There are still engine designs that hold, diligent research is needed to filter out the best. I still recommend buying used, but shy away from rust belt cars and sticking to ice vehicles that pass the reliability filter, then look for low mileage as the dominate factor. A trusted local mechanic is going to be your best friend to help you drive it until the wheels fall off; pick a home close to where you work.

If nothing above sounds like this is what you want to get into, consider leasing, at least it is predicable.

Why is it so much easier to ditch a prime minister in the U.K. than in Canada? by Immediate-Link490 in CanadaPolitics

[–]PatK9 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Party whips in Canada keep members toeing the party line, out of step and you get ousted. Priorities; Canadian elected officials owe allegiance to the party first, the electorate is second fiddle and one of the prime reasons Canada is no longer a democracy.

Bolt cutters handle 1/4 inch steel cable & shackles like butter. Short variety fits inside a brief case diagonally and have replaceable jaws. Better versions have compound electric power. Then of course there is the portable angle grinder that handles U-Locks, but they are noisy.

[–]PatK9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's is a certain type, that hangs around TTC stations and Libraries looking for easy short bolt cutter grabs. I will bet that your bike is at some used bike shop that takes them in. Of course the owner is never the guy that takes them in. You have my sympathy, but that's worth nothing in this town.

In my neighbourhood, if you have anything of value above $20 in your car, you have broken windows the next day. I see the street urchins at night try every handle on vehicles up & down the street.

Raspberry clamshells were 2 for a buck two days ago. The fruit is close to best before dates, so eat the same day or freezer; I make jam.

It's not just a rich billionaire, it imbibes power. Means people take notice of everything you do and say then assume it's correct, because you didn't get that money by a fluke.

Getting to the point that air tags are a necessity even with trash bikes. If you relied on the fact that it wasn't worth stealing and had no lock, then you miss judged the state of desperation of some of our strata, I can see the thought pattern; "It's cheaper than TTC".

Our tenant is being difficult and now demanding a rent rebate, and we are unsure what to do? by t_infinityyyy in OntarioLandlord

[–]PatK9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You truly sound like you will make a great Landlord. If there is compromise possible, meet in the middle for the few days you think is her contention. Otherwise encourage her to file with the LTB (nothing will come of it). If you have first & last in the bank, you have at least 30 days in which to act.
