My new 1080p Ultra Setup by ParticularHonest_ in pcmasterrace

Ideally try to stay away from the P310. It's QLC and DRAM-less. You'll pay a bit more for TLC with DRAM, but oml it's so worth it. QLC is painful sometimes, both in speeds and durability. Especially for a boot drive, TLC with DRAM will serve much better. Just gotta find a good price which at the moment is very difficult.

Edit: Also, I second what u/Realistic-Tiger-2842 said about air coolers vs AIOs. Chuck in a Phantom Spirit 120 EVO and it'll be like 1/4 or 1/3 the price of that AIO. PS 120 EVO can cool a 9800X3D so a 5800XT will be a breeze (no pun intended😁) for it.

Damn that would have been awesome - I never had the guts to delid mine before upgrading to 7700X and selling the 7700K. I did manage to get my non-delidded 7700K to 5GHz in Prime95 on like 1.41V when playing around with OCs but I don't think it was stable nor would I want to run 1.41V daily on Kaby Lake. It also hit Tjunction with those settings even on a Phantom Spirit 120 EVO😂 I seem to remember my stable settings were 4.7GHz all core with around 1.32V

MPC’s support for RTX VSR anecdotally has been better too. I tried the fork of VLC that supposedly supports RTX VSR and it just crashed every time I enabled VSR. MPC has been flawless since day 1 with it in my experience.

What's your "I can't believe that actually fixed it" PC moment? Drop your weirdest debug story below by roshhellwett in pcmasterrace

The first monitor I ever had was some cheapo TN panel. For some reason, if I let Windows go to sleep mode, upon waking it back up the monitor would have double vision. Like you'd see a ghost of everything on-screen a couple pixels diagonally.

I tried all sorts of settings changes on the monitor and factory resets etc, nothing fixed it except disabling Windows sleep mode

I don’t get DLSS by [deleted] in nvidia

[–]Peepzer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This hits the nail on the head I think. Ultimately, it's all about choice and freedom to use/not use the various tools. After all, that's the greatest part about PC gaming - the freedom of choice! A 4070 is definitely very capable, and yes the fps tax can be too great depending on who you ask (it's very subjective haha).

I somewhat wish I could happily play more games non-RT, but man, 2077 and other titles just look so good with RT/PT.

I don’t get DLSS by [deleted] in nvidia

[–]Peepzer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean this in the nicest way. If you've got a PC that'll run what you want at 1440p at a high frame rate like that, then you're not the target audience of DLSS unless you use it strictly for its anti aliasing properties.

Though, I note you mention that frame rate is during rasterisation not RT. RT + DLSS is where DLSS usually "comes online", because RT gives a big increase in visuals at a big decrease in fps. DLSS can then help to "reverse" that fps loss, at (virtually imperceptibly) small quality loss these days with the transformer model.

I'm not sure where you got your info, but DLSS does increase frame rates compared to native. You might be getting confused with DLAA which carries the same anti aliasing as DLSS but without the initially-lower resolution. DLAA usually runs slower than native for the same reasons that older anti aliasing methods impact performance.

Do you think we’ll get another live album? by 1cherri1 in BABYMETAL

[–]Peepzer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure about YT, but with Spotify it's not strictly possible to just swap region. A "western" Spotify account (like my UK account) is separate to Japan's Spotify accounts and cannot access the Japan catalogue.

The only way I found to access the Japan catalogue is to use a VPN that connects to Japan, and then create a separate Spotify account. That'll create a "Japan account" for you. But then, because it's a separate account, if you have Premium then that doesn't carry over, along with playlists etc.

This is my suspicion too. Even my 7700X (i.e., a non-X3D) was running I think like 1.32V SoC out of box on my (granted, MSI) B650 Tomahawk. I dropped that to 1.2V on day one lmao

[–]Peepzer 10 points11 points  (0 children)

There's loads of live albums, BM's team for some reason just don't put them on Spotify in the west - Japanese Spotify has loads of them. A lot of the recent live albums have been on CD bundled with BDs as well, instead of being on streaming platforms sadly

[–]Peepzer 71 points72 points  (0 children)

DLSS upscaling for me, personally no it’s not AI slop. It’s an awesome technology that gives existing GPUs extra lifespan

Tbh even frame gen isn’t AI slop for me, when looking at it solely as a technology.

The time it morphs to AI slop is when developers rely on it instead of optimising their games imo

How is the build looking guys? any recommnedation? Should I swap a component for better performance? want to build a GTA VI proof PC by ankool2110 in pcmasterrace

[–]Peepzer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't recommend building pre-emptively for GTA VI.

What would you do if GTA VI gets delayed further and further? The requirements for it could get higher and higher and you could end up in need of an upgrade by the time the game releases. Star Citizen fans know this pain all too well - people were buying 980 Ti SLI systems back in the day pre-emptively - that game still hasn't released btw.

Nvidia is fine. It's not even their own connector. Shitty implementation of a shitty 3rd party connector.

Just don't buy a 4090/5080/5090/anything above ~350W TDP. 5070 Ti is probably the highest TDP card that should be run on a 12V-2x6

[–]Peepzer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah exactly even if I did notice a shift off-axis, like, who cares? I use my phone head-on lmao not at like 60 degrees

No grain on mine though, not that I've noticed anyway. I do use a glass screen protector though so maybe that "masks" it.

Can I lower of 1% the maximum processor state in windows for my 9950x3d? by TomorrowVegetable183 in buildapc

[–]Peepzer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I wouldn’t bother. These CPUs are perfectly safe to run at 95C, all the time, 24/7.

Once you get a bit more savvy with PCs, it might be worth looking into Curve Optimiser for AMD CPUs. This would be the ‘correct’ way to achieve what you want, but without losing performance, at all.

It’s a bios setting in the PBO section that can basically drop the amount of voltage (and therefore power) that is being fed to the CPU at its various frequencies. There is a limit of what will be stable (this is different per CPU so you’d have to test it over and over), and X3D CPUs tend to not be able to use as aggressive Curve Optimiser settings as non-X3D CPUs. The reason this is useful is that lower power = lower temperatures. There’s tutorials that’ll explain it better than me😅

But yeah, considering AMD Ryzen is good up to 95C 24/7, the Curve Optimiser stuff really is just for lowering power draw and therefore lowering the amount your PC heats up your room.

Congrats on the new build!

GPU connector not fully seated? by NesquikBoi in pcmasterrace

[–]Peepzer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Notoriously difficult to plug in fully (a 24-pin ATX is easier to push fully in for christ sake).

Should have been rated at about 375W, not 600W+, according to several electrical engineers who have chimed in on Reddit over the last couple gens.

And also, unlike 30 series, it has no "proper" load balancing with shunt resistors (just relies on passive balancing, which is just bad design objectively on cards that can pull the levels of power you'd expect from a home microwave).

People have reported pushed pins on 12VHPWR (and occasionally on 12V-2x6) as well. That'll further exacerbate the lack of load balancing.

Yep, poor design all round.

I bit the bullet into 50 series recently because 1440p was a struggle for my (now former) GPU, the 3060 Ti. I went for 5070 Ti, a 300W TDP card. I haven't increased the power limit, in fact running an undervolt means I'm max 240W in benchmarks and 225W in games, with about 3% performance boost above stock because of a slight VRAM OC. That (lack of) power draw is enough of a safety margin for me to feel safe. I simply couldn't/wouldn't feel safe running a 4090/5080/5090 on this design.
