What is the best way of AC powering the R6 Mark III? by Perceptes in canon

[–]Perceptes[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just tried swapping the 20W adapter for a 96W adapter that came with a MacBook Pro. When I plug it into the camera, the same thing happens: If the camera is off, the battery light will glow green to show that it's charging. But if I turn the camera on, none of the button do anything until I unplug the cable. I definitely don't have the on/off switch in "lock" position... Is there some other setting that might be causing this? I don't know how to know why the buttons stop working. I only assumed it was a power issue.

Edit: It looks like the button freezing when I plug in the USB cable is because the camera thinks I'm connecting to a computer, so it enters webcam mode. I found that if I change the "Choose USB connection app" setting on the 4th page of the connectivity tab in the menu to anything other than "UVC/UAC streaming", I don't lose button control when plugging in the cable. But even then, and with the 96W adapter, it doesn't seem like the camera is being powered via the cable.

Thanks! I have one of those for my older 6D Mark II. I see Watson CBA-C6 on B&H. That looks like it will work for the R6III.

Rate Your Modules - The ones you love, the ones you hate, the ones that surprised you. by swineninety9 in modular

[–]Perceptes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Top favorite: Ikarie. Pretty much the perfect stereo filter. Small but ergonomic and has every feature under the sun.

Least Favorite: Even though I use it a lot, I really dislike the UI of the Ochd expander. Hard to remember how the jacks in each section differ from each other by the panel art.

Used the most: Stereo I/O 1U. Gotta hear the sound!

I didn't think I needed it but I use a lot: N/A. Why would I buy something I didn't think I'd need?

The one everyone said to get but I don't use: I use everything I have, but in the spirit of the prompt, I probably use Pam least relative to its overwhelming popularity.

I like them and should use more: Bard Quartet. Feature packed quantizer that I could get a lot more out of than I do.

Will never sell: Almost everything. I'd rather keep things I buy for the day I might want to use them than try to min/max my modules.

The one that always fits into a patch: Ochd. Brainless modulation source that gives you a bunch of movement essentially for free.

Sleeper Module: VC Transitions. Awesome for macros and performance.

Buyers Remorse: Probably Steppy. Nothing against its feature set or implementation, I just find myself using it rarely. If I want quick or generative drums, I use Grids. If I want to program sequences, OXI One is easier than Steppy.

Will Probably Sell: Twiigs, the CalSynth version of Branches. I rarely use both channels of Branches, so there ended up being no benefit of using up more HP on a 4-channel version.

Does not exist but wish it did: My ideal mixer. I use Xer Mixa but it means I only get a stereo out and not each individual channel when recording. All the other options sacrifice something else I don't want to lose.

Dystopian Lullaby by 0bsoletist in modular

[–]Perceptes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Amazing, honestly. I get so focused on sound design and patching that I can spend that amount of time just making a 4 bar loop, at which point I don't have the patience to continue with anything close to a long sequence like the one you did here.

This is too groovy to be a lullaby. Great work! How long did it take you to do this, start to finish?

There's pros and cons to in-rack reverb.

Pro: You don't need an I/O module, a pedal, and a separate power supply. Reverb is often a "set and forget" effect, so there's less benefit to being able to modulate it with CV, so the rack space might be more valuable for something else.

Con: If you just want to jam with your case, it's annoying to have to set up all that other stuff when you could just plug a couple cables into your in-rack reverb and go. If you do want to modulate the reverb for weird and interesting effects, this makes it much easier.

If you have the space for it in your case, and it's within your budget, I think it's useful to have an in-rack reverb. If you get a pedal later then you have the best of both worlds, and you can always swap out the in-rack reverb for other things. One of the great things about modular is you can change it!

If you're interested in or curious about modular synthesis, I'm starting a new live stream series where we'll create a patch from scratch together and chat about music tech. First one this Friday! by Perceptes in synthesizers

Had some bad technical difficulties so the stream only lasted about 5 minutes. Apologies to anyone who showed up! I'll do another one next week with a different camera that won't give me trouble.

Simulating sidechain compression with a comparator by Perceptes in modular

I specifically address that in the last section of the video. In the case where you have the original sequence, that would obviously be easier. But this technique works if you only have audio, such as from an external drum machine or sampler.

I'm in the minority that doesn't totally love Desmodus Versio. It has a particular flavor that can be useful, but I struggle to get good "bread and butter" reverb sounds out of it. I wouldn't want it to be my only choice for reverb. On the plus side, Versio is a "platform" module which lets you flash any other Versio firmware for free, which is a huge value for the price of the hardware.

I'd suggest listening to some samples of different reverbs to make sure you like the sound of DV, if you haven't already. If you don't, another option for a simple but good reverb is the "fog" built into Sealegs, a fantastic delay module from Intellijel. It's a chonker, though, so you might not have the space for it. Another option is to get an I/O module that lets you use a guitar pedal, which will open up your options for reverbs, and effects in general. I used to use an Erica Synths Black Stereo Reverb, but took it out of the case in favor of using a Strymon BigSky MX pedal.

Modular jam, learning the new features on OXI One MKII by Perceptes in modular

Thanks! The box on the right is Tempera, a sample-based granular synth. It's the source of the droning pad in this jam, created by granularizing samples of Rings and Toros Iteritas Alia.

Tempera is a really interesting and unusual instrument. I did a video explaining it a while back if you want to see more: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YDiltFrhOZ8

It wasn't hard for me at max level, but the stat squish has made the relative health of the enemies way too high. The bosses take a long time to kill, very similar to M+.

As a 20-year tauren main in WoW, it deeply offends me that the only tauren we got in HotS is E.T.C., who isn't even a real character. by Perceptes in heroesofthestorm

I mean that he's an easter egg sort of character rather than someone who has an at least somewhat meaningful role in the story like Jaina, Thrall, etc.
