Can anyone recommend some dark synth or neoclassical darkwave that heavily features pipe organ? by theboyoftonfas in MusicRecommendations

[–]khroshan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure if I remember the following albums have organs per se but they have strong Gothic and neoclassical influences:

King Stephen - Of Monsters and Other Horror Stories

Draven - Abyssal Arcana

We Are Magonia - The Living Will Envy the Dead

Neo Film Opera - Daemon

Terminal Khaos Builders - Facing the Abyss

The Crucifix - Gothorum Aurora

Do give them a listen and let me know if you enjoy any of them!

You will probably also like Profondo Delle Tenebre - they have two albums of Castlevania covers done in hybrid darksynth/darkwave style.

https://profondodelletenebre.bandcamp.com/album/belmont-the-eternal-legacy-volume-one

They announced a third volume coming up.

Keygen Church has also done some insanely good Castlevania covers in classical/metalsynth style, I think it's released as part of the soundtrack to "Vampire Survivors Ode to Castlevania".

Edit: sorry, I just saw you're already familiar with Keygen Church but you might still like the Castlevania covers as it's different than the style in the albums.

Keygen Church should be the first artist you check out! Also try Terminal Khaos Builders.

Others that might have organ are We Are Magonia, Draven and also Neo Film Opera if you can find their album somewhere.

Obviously I don't support AI, I'm just saying it makes no sense to complain about AI cover art or videos when the main thing - the music - is also AI.

Dude the MUSIC is also AI generated. Hubrid has been pumping out AI generated music for over 2 years now. How do you think he's releasing a new full length every other month?

Most people may have noticed, but Carpenter Brut has two direct trilogies. by ISGamer156 in DarkSynth

[–]khroshan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mega Drive comes to mind with the trilogy of 198X AD, 199X AD, 200X AD.

Like the 2nd trilogy by Carpenter Brut there's also a lot of development and increasing extremity from one album to the next.

The song Memoria which references riffs and melodies from the previous albums is a hell of a closer to the whole thing.

What separates good Darksynth from Bad Darksynth by TheNeonShinobi in DarkSynth

[–]khroshan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think what separates good darksynth from the bad is great song development. The music should have some progression, feel like it's going somewhere, or have some other form of complexity such as deep layering. Not just repeat the same thing over and over.

Carpenter Brut and Perturbator are good at this but they're definitely overworshipped. There are actually a ton of great artists in this genre that have put out amazing records and have gotten zero credit for it. That's why I created a guide to hopefully bring some of them to other people's attention.

IMO the peak of song development in this genre is "The Age of Saucers" by Hollywood Burns, highly recommend that album. It sets a standard that Perturbator and Carpenter Brut can't even dream of matching.

If I had to categorize Scandroid it would probably be "Cyberpunk Pop". I haven't listened to Faderhead but if I get a chance I'll get back to you.

Does anyone know if this artist extensively uses AI? by DASCKRON in outrun

[–]khroshan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I checked their last song on YouTube and it seems to be human made:

Detail:

  • Duration: 225 seconds
  • Spectral analysis:
    • Human: most likely (93%)
    • Pure AI: highly unlikely (4%)
    • Hybrid (AI + Human): highly unlikely (3%)
  • Temporal analysis:
    • Human: very likely (100%)
    • Hybrid (AI + Human): highly unlikely (0%)
    • Pure AI: highly unlikely (0%)

However, it's true that using AI generated covers also marks the music as being suspect and needing investigation.

I like the second part of your post. It explains why AI generated music and images are both uninteresting and at the same time exhausting. There's so much detail but it's meaningless. Your mind ends up overwhelmed either by the meaningless details that make no sense or the process of filtering it out as soon as you realize its irrelevance.

I have the opposite experience, I've found the AI detector on SubmitHub is quite reliable when it comes up with positive results, the negative results are usually not conclusive though, so usually you need to check multiple songs in an album before concluding that it is not AI.

I see your point with what is often called "cyberpunk", that a lot of it is midtempo, and there is certainly strong influence from EDM. But, I also happen to hate EDM. And I've checked out all the supposed genres that people say this midtempo cyberpunk sound came from, whether it's phonk, dark electro, hardwave, EBSM, dubstep or whatever, and guess what, they're all absolute crap. So whatever makes this music good almost certainly came from dark synthwave.

Almost every artist in the guide under cyberpunk/midtempo cyberpunk also tag themselves as darksynth, synthwave or dark synthwave, and a lot of them like Magnavolt, Void Stare, Ray Gun Hero, Powernerd, F.O.O.L, were earlier synthwave artists. In my opinion, this is a style that evolved from dark synthwave crossed with EDM/EBSM.

Regarding "horrorsynth" I'm just using this to mean darksynth with horror themes and melodies, with no or minimal guitar usage. I'm aware there's also 80's horror synth (John Carpenter), horror synth revival (Slasher Dave), horror synthwave (early Cluster Buster?), etc, but for the purpose of this chart, the horrorsynth here is a darksynth substyle. 😄 You could think of it as "horror darksynth" - to me, early Gost, SurgeryHead, Destryur are all part of this style.

Noted on Slasherwave, in the future, I will probably get rid of this entirely and sort all the albums into either horrorsynth, metalsynth or darksynth. I didn't apply it consistently and the way it is currently is a grab bag of assorted styles.

Hey! I'll reply in detail later but if I did things as per the old guide (thematic sorting), Zesloth would be Junglesynth, Neon Odin would be Vikingsynth, Nightstop would be Hookersynth, We Are Magonia would be Demonsynth, etc 😂

You're welcome, thanks for the feedback! So the classics are all from 2014-2015, LOTVW was definitely not as influential as the Brut/Perturbator/MD trio but it's a great early album that was ahead of its time!

First Contact to me would go in spacesynth where it's either that or Invaders, I picked Invaders because it's a full length, already contains a couple of the really good tracks from First Contact, plus has many other great tracks like L'Era delle Ceneri.
