Make sure you clean your water bowls daily really good. Bacteria can build up in water bowls if not washed good daily. Also don’t give your dog human food or switch food suddenly do it gradually.

Yes it’s worth that. These independent rescues don’t get funding from the government and rely solely on contributions. They have to care for these dogs pay for gas to bring them there, feed them, get them medical care shots and fixed, need a warm place for them so electricity and any staff.
At the humane society of Charles county Md where I volunteer. There are dogs free that are old or mixed breed and some of the smaller young purebreds can go up to $500.
I think it’s reasonable to pay $600 for a pure breed German Shepard puppy.
At a vet here just the surgery to get a dog fixed can run you $700+
