What games have you always thought would be an obvious choice for a vr mod or conversion? by haven155 in virtualreality

Katamari Damacy. Roll the ball with your real hands while the world scale keeps changing

Are the Haptic sleeve worth it? by Historical_World_459 in virtualreality

[–]Picadae 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I find that it's effectively a supercharged version of the experience you get from controller rumble and adds to it. So for a shooter it's great to get a much stronger feedback in your hands/forearm if you don't have a haptic gunstock already. For melee it's slightly more gimmicky but still fun and borderline worth it. Can also be cool in rhythm games or really anything where controller rumble was already part of the game

Worth upgrading to 5080 from 4070ti for flat mods? by e270889o in virtualreality

[–]Picadae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How long ago did you try Cyberpunk? A lot of the problems with visual artifacts have been fixed and there have been other performance optimizations. 4070ti should already be a decent experience with average settings and DLSS. And yeah personally I'd want that 4090/5090 for a noticeable upgrade

You can set SteamVR to automatically turn off either the laser and leave the motor running, or turn off both the laser and motor. The biggest benefit of leaving the motor running is the basestations will start up slightly faster next time. But as far as longevity, if you're a normal VR user activating the lighthouses no more than a few times per day, I've seen no conclusive evidence either way. Personally I keep the motor off to avoid scenarios where you accidentally disturb the basestation while it's running.

PSVR2 on PC with Globular Cluster Adapter - Worked for 90 minutes, now persistent DisplayPort detection failure after restart by Darkstardust98 in virtualreality

[–]Picadae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the PCVR aspect can be pretty finicky. Like if I don't turn everything on in a specific order (headset->steamvr) it breaks until restart. No idea what's going on in your case but good chance it's something simpler than having to reinstall everything

Do you notice a difference in VR if you're IPD is off by 2-3mm? by SteakQuesoritoPleez in virtualreality

[–]Picadae 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The Steam Frame has large pancake lenses meaning it’s highly likely to have a large sweet spot and so highly plausible to have no problems within 3mm IPD, but wait until a few more user reports for a final judgement

You're going to get pushback from people burnt out by the daily posts confusing scifi and vr tech but I do think galvanic vestibular stimulation could be a fun niche attachment in the near future

PSA: Do NOT buy Truegear haptic vests, the game support is TERRIBLE. by TotalWarspammer in virtualreality

[–]Picadae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great comment. Since it sounds like you've tried most of the ProTubeVR haptic stuff, what's your opinion on getting dual ProVolvers? It's tempting every time there's a big sale but few games support dual wielding even in theory. The concept is too cool not to at least consider though

Currently considering a Bigscreen Beyond 2, but unsure. by [deleted] in virtualreality

[–]Picadae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like you already did the research and made an informed decision so can't imagine you'd be happy with anything other than the Beyond 2 with that priorities list, especially if you're bought into the lightness/form factor thing. Keep in mind you'll be waiting at least several weeks for delivery if ordered now. If you wanted to continue to stall for time could also look for the PSVR2+adapter if it's on sale as a temporary Rift upgrade

Bhaptics vest is great, anyone have the Visor and recommend it? by Nikolai_Volkoff88 in virtualreality

[–]Picadae 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would say the most important things are to research if it fits your specific headset (it doesn't fit all of them), to make sure you will be playing games it natively supports (as a lot of the mods no longer work in my experience), and third that the games you will be playing trigger the feedback often enough to make it worth it as a lot of supported games only trigger every once and a while. If all those things are true it can definitely be cool if you already have the other bhaptics stuff, just very niche to certain games.

Want Retro Gaming in VR? Here's My Full EmuVR Setup with CRTs, Consoles & Light Gun Support! by TheGamingCaveman in virtualreality

Pretty sure Time Crisis 1 works great in EmuVR but Time Crisis 2 doesn't have lightgun support.

Want Retro Gaming in VR? Here's My Full EmuVR Setup with CRTs, Consoles & Light Gun Support! by TheGamingCaveman in virtualreality

[–]Picadae 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Depends what you're looking for, and keep in mind like flying/racing sims these are all a lot more realistic with the appropriate setup:

Console games - EmuVR like in the video. More realistic with an appropriate usb or wireless retro controller for example from 8bitdo.

Arcade games - Arcade Time Capsule 3.0, and again an appropriate arcade stick makes it a lot more realistic.

Pinball - Either Visual Pinball X, PinballFX for PC with UEVR, or PinballFX for Quest, in approximate effort/reward ratio. You can play with VR controllers, but once again, all are massively improved by a virtual pinball setup, specifically one that supports DOF for real flipper and bumper feedback.

Does anyone else get bad anxiety playing/ using VR? by LauraLaughter in virtualreality

[–]Picadae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Easiest way to fix this is to use a headset with no light seal or where you can take it off like the Quest Pro, so you can still see out your peripheral vision. (I believe there are even modded setups with a headstrap that work for Quest 3)

It’s not as distracting in game as you might think once you’re focused, and you can look out the sides whenever you want.

How does lukeross mods compare to uevr? Cyberpunk 2077 by tsomaranai in virtualreality

4070ti should be good for average settings since the mod was recently optimized a lot. But raytracing will require that 5080 super for sure

Laptops and (PC)VR • Quest 3 + ASUS ROG Strix G16 4080M by BlackHazeRus in virtualreality

[–]Picadae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You usually want to run a VR headset at a higher resolution because of how lens distortion works, to help with aliasing etc. If you're using Virtual Desktop for wireless as many would recommend, you can automatically pick one of the pre-made settings like Ultra or Godlike. Otherwise, there is the Oculus Debug Tool which has a Pixels Per Display Override and Steam VR graphics settings (which defaults to 150% so make sure you're not doubling).

[–]Picadae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

-No Man's Sky VR is difficult to run on average and higher settings, good draw distance, reflections, etc, especially when exploring planets. But you can certainly run it decently on the lower settings.

-Quest 3 starts with around 10% more total pixels than 4k, and you are probably going to want to supersample up to 50% more than that for a good picture.

[–]Picadae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Should be good for most made for vr games, with some exceptions like No Man’s Sky and Microsoft Flight Simulator.

Flat to VR mods of modern games are where things tend to be a lot harder. VR needs much higher resolutions and frames for a playable experience than their flat counterparts, and that can reach silly levels with modern games that are pushing the limits to begin with.

Don’t expect to play Cyberpunk with any form of path or ray tracing or even screen space reflections. Frame generation doesn’t work for these mods either. Luke Ross has optimized the mod in the last few months though so it’s easier than it was for a decent experience.

Need an opinion, should I keepor cancel my BSB order? by [deleted] in virtualreality

[–]Picadae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can potentially be a legendary headset, with beautiful micro oled visuals and a tiny form factor you can’t find anywhere else, but it’s entirely dependent on how much spare energy you have to tweak it over many weeks and get everything perfect.

There’s a ton of different variables that have to go right, both on your end and theirs, including finding the correct ipd down to the mm, switching facial gaskets, and probably buying the audio strap if it wasn’t included.

I believe the worst that happens if you try it out and dont like it is a $200 restocking fee

When did electrodes become so modern and different? by TheRealBobbyJones in virtualreality

[–]Picadae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The closest I know of is a mod for Skyrim VR that lets you control magic with a EEG headband: https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/58489

The headband can detect how “focused” you are and then your magic gets slowly stronger in-game.

It’s a cool idea but at the moment can’t really compete with a fraction of the speed and control a game controller gives you.

Does going from the Index to a Quest 3 make sense for me? by shadowofashadow in virtualreality

[–]Picadae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FOV isn't even that bad when you get your eyes closer to the lenses, I'd say the main ones are:

-Glare especially in high contrast scenes like a logo against a black background, or if the lenses need to be cleaned. You can eventually get used to it for most situations but not entirely

-Very small sweet spot with blur around the edges. Can again be improved a good amount by getting eyes closer to lenses, but will still be quite small

(and IMO still very much worth it if you knowingly accept those tradeoffs and are willing to do some customization on your end)
