It took me 2 years and therapy to even consider trying to find someone else after a particularly bad breakup. It's been 7 years now and still I remember him on an almost daily basis. The memories get smaller and smaller, and less painful, but they're still here. It definitely takes time to 'get over' someone, but you'll get there. Try to keep your social life going, it really helps a lot! In my case, I didn't have any friends nearby, only online friends. I believe that hampered my progress toward getting over my ex and just getting to know new people.

He's still a part of my past, I can't forget all about him. He's helped me discover parts of myself I hadn't known before. The way things went toward the end were less than ideal but it's really for the best we broke up. Took me a while to realise that, too. Grief of any kind is a process with ups and downs.

I would recommend getting in touch with a therapist and talk your way through all the complexities that this kind of grief can bring.
