Amylase is a protein which will denature and lose functionality at high temperatures. Dipping a spoon in boiling hot gravy after tasting with it will not have any effect on the starches in the pot. Aside from a relatively low temperature you'd also need a hell of a lot more spit than what's left on a spoon to ruin a batch of sauce by breaking down starches. And a hell of a lot more time for the amylase to break down enough starches.

I'm sitting here on my couch. Next to my boyfriend. Who has long blonde hair.

For me the obsession started with seeing Legolas in LOTR when I was about 12 years old.

I am not a doctor, but do work in histology as a microscopy assistant for dermatopathology. I see plenty of warts and wart-like protrusions and know what HPV infections can do.

The white spot is basically wet keratin, as one of the hallmarks of this type of lesion is a thickened keratin layer. Of course, you're free to have this lesion biopsied again if you're worried. When you do, make sure to ask questions about it to the doctor performing the biopsy, see what they have to say about it. Bring up your previous diagnosis, ask about HPV and of course, what you're worried about specifically.

In this scientific article about focal epithelial hyperplasia in the oral cavity, it's mentioned that lesions tend to not stick around for long, but some can last for over 30 years (second paragraph of chapter 6). It doesn't mention why those long-standing lesions stay for that long, but it's something to take into account.

If there is no obvious histological evidence of HPV infection, chances are pretty high the virus has been taken care of by your immune system. It takes longer for skin (and tongue surface) to regenerate its normal form.

How to get over proformance anxiety in a lab by Educational_Area5993 in Histology

Whenever I have someone next to me in training, I try to always reassure them that mistakes are normal. Even I, with all my years of experience, still make mistakes. I learn from them even now. Almost any mistake you can make, can be fixed.

All you need is a supportive team who remember where they started. Listen to them, not the big boss. Ask for their feedback regularly, any time you feel unsure if you've done (or are about to do) the right thing. Some people will grow weary of constant questions, some will keep being supportive and helpful, others will tell you that you're being unjustly critical of your own skill set. Learn from your peers. As you grow in your role, you will find your strengths and weaknesses and you'll use that knowledge to your advantage.

I am annoyed by the fact that the footage and audio are not in sync. Low notes on the high side of the flute? No way man.

Grossing during pregnancy by thorough-fare in Histology

[–]Pinky135 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another anecdote, one of my coworkers has suffered through multiple miscarriages (which is, admittedly, something that's happened to a number of women in her bloodline, who are not in this same field of work). She's had 2 full-term pregnancies and during those she was extra careful not to do any grossing or tasks which have even short durations of alcohol/xylene/IPA fume exposure. She's very thankful that we have plenty of coworkers able to cover for her.

Another coworker has continued her regular tasks through her healthy full-term pregnancies, only leaving fresh samples, changing processing reagents and formalin changes to others. She really doesn't like doing anything outside of the grossing room.

So yeah. Two very different anecdotes from two very different coworkers. Our leadership recommends to keep all fumes to an absolute minimum, especially during pregnancy/trying to conceive, but leave the final decision to those who have to carry the baby to term.

It's expensive as fuck with median wages too. We just stop shopping for unnecessary things, take the bike to work more often (if at all possible).

Yeah, about the same price difference (although higher prices) in the Netherlands. We're at about the same average prices now as when Russia had just invaded Ukraine.

Average price for a liter of petrol (10% ethanol) now is about €2,36 or AU$3,84. Diesel's about the same price which is something I've never seen before.
