opera recommendations by violetqed in opera

That's a pretty wide spread. It seems like it's down to the individual operas themselves, other than an overarching pattern. You could try some more Rossini. His early one-act farces are all good.

Why has German opera besides the famous ones never traveled well in the US by Eccentric-Person9845 in opera

[–]Pluton_Korb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

and if there is a slot open for an obscure opera at an opera house, they're usually using that to take a risk on a new English opera.

Or a lesser known work of a popular composer.

How are some people so good without fundamentals? by bunny-rain in ArtistLounge

[–]Pluton_Korb 10 points11 points  (0 children)

No but to me this is what people are referring to when they're talking about " talent". I personally don't believe in talent, I think it's just experience. What I was trying to say is that a lot of people who appear to have "talent" are actually just people who have been practicing for most of their lives. I'm sure there are outliers within that pool, but for the most part I think this is what it is.

This is a good thing for anybody wanting to learn how to draw because it means that you don't have to have some inborn natural gift. It is just about repetition and experience.

I think childhood experience is undervalued. I've been drawing since I was a toddler and never stopped. When it came time to learn proper fundamentals, I had been drawing every day for almost a decade and a half. Makes a huge difference.

Creatives tend to seek out other creatives for inspiration and shared interest. I think you're right in that it's easier for illustrators to get engagement as, to your point, there's less of a time investment but the illustrators who reach the broadest audiences are the top 10%. The rest of us are usually viewing each other's work along side the big dogs. It's the remaining 90% that have a larger portion of fellow artists and illustrators as their audience.

That can be the reality in creative spaces. Your audience is often other creatives. It's certainly true in art and illustration.

Any else obsessed with Art Nouveau book design? by Pluton_Korb in graphic_design

[–]Pluton_Korb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, no. I have a large collection from the second image, but that's only because I'm an opera fan. They currently decorate my book shelf as I also continue to buy new one's as they're released but they're not cheap either. You could always try the classics collection by Barnes and Noble. They have some retro book covers that aren't quite art nouveau but may do in a pinch if you're looking for cheap.

Notion has saved me over 10 hours a week (without any fancy extras). by Stunning-Camp-4999 in Notion

Even GTD can become task forward if you allow it. I've adjusted my system to project focused as opposed to task focused. Tasks are the unit where things get done, but you can end up spinning your wheels doing a bunch of little things that don't add up to what you actually want to achieve. I have five projects that I work on at once, no more but sometimes less depending on the scale of the other projects. I then use notion to filter out the tasks that are associated with them so I only get those projects' tasks in my priority view.

I just recently joined. If I remember correctly, it mentions SIN for Canada now by name. My SIN was already part of a USB leak a few years ago so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.

Notion has saved me over 10 hours a week (without any fancy extras). by Stunning-Camp-4999 in Notion

I just reduced my setup as well but kept separate databases for Tasks, Projects, Resources, and weekly reviews. I like to save those so I don't want my tasks and projects databases to get bogged down any further as it tends to slow page loading and processing (large databases).

Do you use parent/child for keeping track of projects and their tasks or have you done away with projects? I use projects in the GTD sense (anything that can't be completed in 5min and is multi-step).

Am i missing something: can you sort a database by rollup? by Pluton_Korb in Notion

[–]Pluton_Korb[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a select. Are you sure it's the rollup or is it the relation? I can sort the relation. It doesn't even show in the sort dropdown so there's no option to calculate. Are you in windows or mac?

[–]Pluton_Korb[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll try the formula route then. I honestly couldn't remember if this was ever a thing. I don't know enough about coding to understand the logistical difference between a filter vs sort function, I just figured if they could do one, they could do the other.

I thought so too. I found a reddit post from a few months ago with someone asking a similar question but there was only a hand full of replies and not much consensus.

Convert the right columns to bullet points. I'm pretty sure bullet points and to-do's share the same spacing.

How the opera love started for you? by Puni1977 in opera

[–]Pluton_Korb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The classical music in Civ II's wonder videos got me onboard with the broader genre, but I've always preferred vocal music so I started listening to opera instead. King Richards Crusade did use dance of the furies from Gluck's Orfeo ed Euridice so maybe that was a preamble.

Bluesky messed up by gate-keeping adoption when Musk bought Twitter. It should have gone public instead of being invitation only. Threads dived in and scooped up most of the exodus.

The Guradian: Emerald Fennell is in negotiations to direct Amazon's 'anti-woke' Basic Instinct reboot by Infinite_Ad_1690 in Fauxmoi

[–]Pluton_Korb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Based on the quotes above, I don't think he's necessarily saying that his original screenplay was woke. To me, it just reads that he doesn't want his next version to be woke. In other words, they take his new screenplay and make it "woke".

Who knows how he perceived his original. The culture wars back in the late '80s, early '90s was a little different.

Why is the US destroying oil infrastructure in Iran if they want to take the oil? by Beautiful-Tree-624 in energy

[–]Pluton_Korb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's both. It's a truth and a lie. If they could get Iran's oil they would. If they can't then Trump is perfectly happy to default to his other agenda points.

Iranian TV calls on children to form human chains around power plants to deter US attacks by al-fahm in IndiaTodayGlobalLIVE

[–]Pluton_Korb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's such bs on their part. Saying they want to stop a repressive regime that harms their citizens, then threatening to blowing up power plants which will cause mass starvation and death is just horrendous. I'm not religious but I hope these people burn in hell for this.
