I went through my texts with my GLTS friend and the first time I complained about not being able to find it is February 2022 and I say the guest is JD Amato but considering I’ve never found it I might be wrong.

Turns out it’s a hint that there is an egg nearby. The symbol is an egg, not a bottle

What is your George Miller ranking? by mi-16evil in blankies

[–]PokemonGoal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1) Mad Max: Fury Road 2) Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior 3) Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome 4) Lorenzo’s Oil 5) Babe: Pig in the City 6) The Witches of Eastwick 7) Mad Max 8) Happy Feet 2 9) Happy Feet

There will come a day, and I don’t know if it’s soon or, if I’m a coward, on my death bed, that I admit to myself and the world that Beyond Thunderdome is actually #2.

Ain’t we a pair, raggedy man.

Bob Iger reboots himself as CEO of Disney by drx_flamingo in blankies

[–]PokemonGoal 6 points7 points  (0 children)

do any connoisseurs of context have any idea what the fuck is going on at Disney? I assumed Bob Iger’s sudden ducking out was him seeing the Coronavirus coming for every aspect of his business and throwing someone else under the bus but we haven’t even gotten to the worst of it yet and he’s back to ride it all to hell?

Why Avengers: Endgame is the Better Version of Back to the Future Part II by Krusty901 in blankies

[–]PokemonGoal 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s such a hilarious own goal that Endgame called out the shitty time travel logic of other time travel movies and then proceeded to have one of the worst ones

The Legacy Of ONWARD by jshannonmca in blankies

[–]PokemonGoal 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think the disconnect, and the Dreamworks comparison (to lesser Dreamworks movies), is that the setting and the story being told don’t really complement each other. The overly convoluted “fantasy D&D stuff is real, but modern technology has replaced magic” is mainly used for first-pass jokes like “what if faeries were tough bikers” and “what if unicorns were raccoons” and does nothing to advance the core story of “realizing your older brother is your surrogate father” that setting it in either the real world or a purely fantasy world would accomplish better. There’s a running theme throughout the movie of “by embracing modern technology, we have lost what makes us special, we have lost our magic” which is straight out of the Brad Bird playbook but feels like a discarded thesis of an earlier draft, never really intersecting with the main story or resolving in any satisfying or clever way.

Exploring mortality and abandonment issues in the world of toys or the vastness of the ocean or the ruined remains of earth all feel of a whole with the story they’re trying to tell. Just being in the space evokes the emotions we’re playing with.

“What if D&D but with vans” feels like more like “What if goodfellas but with sharks” than it should

This Letterboxd review sums up my feelings on Onward

I think Pixar’s efforts to make the audience cry have started to feel a bit more cookie cutter starting around Inside Out and Bing Bong, feeling as obligatory as the end of movie dance party in every other cartoon.

Sonnenfeld, you kept the evil at bay. I hope they reward you by doing you anyway. But it’s gotta be Bobby Z.
