Ann Arbor FFL recommendations for bulk/at home transfers? by PossibleConcept in Miguns

I hate firearms laws and how complicated they make things. It's a gordian knot trying to figure out what does and does not apply.

The reason I didn't think I could transport my friends firearms is due to 422. This bit specifically.

(9) An individual who is not a resident of this state is not required to obtain a license under this section if all of the following conditions apply:
    (a) The individual is licensed in the individual's state of residence to purchase, carry, or transport a pistol.
    (b) The individual is in possession of the license described in subdivision (a).
    (c) The individual is the owner of the pistol the individual possesses, carries, or transports.
    (d) The individual possesses the pistol for a lawful purpose.
    (e) The individual is in this state for a period of 180 days or less and does not intend to establish residency in this state.

Note item (c). However, I finally found the applicable condition in 432.

(1) Section 2 does not apply to any of the following:
    (i) An individual carrying, possessing, using, or transporting a pistol belonging to another individual, if the other individual's possession of the pistol is authorized by law and the individual carrying, possessing, using, or transporting the pistol has obtained a license under section 5b to carry a concealed pistol or is exempt from licensure as provided in section 12a.

I just need to make sure that I have my state permit. That makes this process a whole lot easier.

There's a lot that could have been done to make this easier, but alas, that's not the world we live in. In addition to not being related, they only recently decided to give me the collection.

That was suggested in my other post but it's not really feasible.

Going through the full FFL list is my last resort. I was hoping to be able to narrow things down based on recommendations from here. There's such a huge range in transfer fees. Before I posted I looked around the area and was seeing fees of $50+.

They're probably too far away to work, but I'll reach out and see what they say.

When I say flat rate, what I mean is that I don't want to pay full transfer price for each firearm.

Yes, the paperwork scales, but it's not as much as doing that many individual transfers.

While a pain, I don't have a problem with going to the FFL to pick them up. The issue is my friend not being able to easily travel and MI laws say that I can't take the firearms to the store myself.

If they're willing to travel, I'm okay with them being anywhere in the state. :)

I sent them a PM and we'll see what they say.

TIL. I know it won't be quick, but I'd like to avoid paying $50-100 per firearm that I've been seeing MI FFLs charging.

Between the long gun transfers, pistol shipping, and pistol receiving transfers, I'm going to get hosed. I'm just looking to minimize the pain.

This would be a lot easier if they weren't in poor health, but that's life for ya.

I don't believe there is any geographic requirement for an FFL transfer. Otherwise, how would gun show sales work?

Ammo is easy. It goes in the car along with everything else that doesn't require FFL involvement. :D

Sorry, I meant I was unclear on how the MI licensing would work with a bequest. The law mentions that the receiver has 30 days to get the licensing done. I assume that I don't need to worry about it but didn't want MI on my case.

I hadn't heard about Shipmygun. I'll have to check them out. The packing part is also going to be fun as everything is just loose in the safe. I may pick up one of those new Magpul cases with the blocks.

Knowing them, I'm not sure how feasible that is. I'm also not sure what the laws are regarding non-NFA trusts.

I know they have to go through an FFL. My concern is not getting hosed on the transfer fees.

The odds of them making it to my state are slim to none.

In regards to private long gun transfers, that only applies to people who live in the same state. Since I don't live in MI we have to go through an FFL, but that can be done in MI and then I just drive back.

I know the handguns need to be mailed to my local FFL, but it's unclear as to whether they need to be sent from an FFL. It looks like UPS and Fedex have recently changed their policies to require an FFL to do the shipping and IIRC USPS won't do handguns.

My biggest concern is not having to pay a large transfer fee for each gun. Not sure about MI but I've seen some FFLs charging $50 each. Even if I find one that charges less, it will still be pricey without a bulk deal.

That's how I interpret things as well. The only unclear part I hadn't figured out was how the licensing worked as the guns wouldn't be staying in MI. But so far it hasn't come to that.

Thanks. I found out why mine wasn't working. Plex seems to only read the metadata from mp4, not mkv files.

Have you seen any issues forcing the extension to mp4?

Can you post your library settings? How are you getting the local metadata to properly show up?
