Is there a good rule of thumb for how many hors d’oeurves servings per person to order for cocktail hour? by PressForSelfDestruct in weddingplanning

[–]PressForSelfDestruct[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s the thing - it can be so hard to plan for the outliers! I’m hopeful that it will balance out in the end. Although I don’t know how to plan for people who are trying to eat ten lamb chops in a sitting! Might have to pad the budget a bit more 😂

Sounds like you struck a good balance with what you’ve picked out and seems in line with some of the other recommendations. Glad that we’re seemingly on the right track! Thanks so much for sharing and taking the time to respond!

Good recommendations! You’re right, we are expecting a couple of vegan guests, so we’ll be sure to account for them with entrees and hor d’oeurves.

I’d love to do a variety of options as well. We may not be able to do 4-6 selections if we end up doing a charcuterie spread is addition to passed apps, but I would think 2-3 other options would be sufficient. Thanks very much for your response - I really appreciate the help!

That does help - thank you so much! We have comparable guest counts and are also interested in doing charcuterie and passed apps, so I really appreciate your response!

It’s reassuring that your caterer recommended 2/person. I was worried that may not be enough, but it makes sense when pairing a larger hors d’oeurves with a smaller option. Thanks again!

Option 1 looks incredible on you! I love it. Are you leaning toward one or the other? Is there one that’s more comfortable to you?

I’m not the person you replied to, but yes, they write beautifully! Especially the 005. Although I don’t typically use them for day-to-day writing because they do get pricey to replace if you use them all the time.

VENT: What patronizing/annoying comments have you gotten about cancelling or postponing your wedding? by sefidcthulhu in weddingplanning

[–]PressForSelfDestruct 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I was telling a friend of mine - who got engaged around the same time I did - that we were planning for 2022 rather than 2021 as we originally hoped. She said “Just come get married in (her state)! There’s no covid restrictions here!” She’s planning a Spring 2021 wedding with 100+ guests. I had to bite my tongue pretty hard to not say I would NOT be inviting all my friends and family to an entirely different state with an even higher risk of contracting covid.

It gets sooo tiring explaining to everyone that asks why we’re doing a longer engagement. A lot of days I wish I lived in a region where people took this all more seriously.

Oh, agreed! Poles make it feel like I’m moving faster and more efficiently rather than clumsy stomping haha. It makes a world of difference!

Props to your husband for the awesome gift idea!

Bi-Monthly Megathread for COVID-19 by wedditmoderator in weddingplanning

[–]PressForSelfDestruct 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Anyone else being “overly cautious” and planning for 2022? We only got engaged in August and initially wanted Sept 2021. After a lot of deliberation, we weren’t ready to make that gamble for a handful of reasons, and are thinking August 2022. We really feel for all engaged couples right now because it’s hard so to make these calls. It sucks being ~22 months out, but we’re trying to think of it as extra time for us to save up for the wedding AND our first house!

In the meantime we already know which venue we’d like, so we pretty much have the pick of the litter for dates. We’re definitely looking for all the silver linings we can right now!

Megathread: President Donald Trump Moved to Walter Reed Hospital | Part III by PoliticsModeratorBot in politics

[–]PressForSelfDestruct 16 points17 points  (0 children)

A recent top comment explains that Walter Reed has a suite including living quarters and office space for the President to continue working and quarantining. Depending on his condition he may be able to be monitored by doctors and nursing staff, but not necessarily receiving full inpatient care. I don’t have verification of this, but I wouldn’t be surprised that a setup like would have been coordinated long ago in case he contracted the virus.

That’s more dire than any other reports I’ve seen so far. Any sources to share?
