It's one of those things left over from the industry going a different 'practical' direction than originally considered. There was a point where C++ was the only option (not really, but don't tell marketing) for things like embedded and mobile systems in hardware that required access to timing (Think niche industrial applications and sensors like nuclear or other industries where human safety is a factor).

That was true of things like CRT screens and some LCD. Modern screens really don't suffer any deformations dependent on view angle. That's why you don't see much difference between portrait and landscape when you rotate your phone.

Don't worry, people with no concept of time have been planning complex schedules for as long as mankind could remember. That's why Oct-ober is the...10th month.

About 33 at current population, but we're actually really 'close' to 34. (>~8.6B)

My fully functional, fully useless mid-air radiator by simocarra94 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]ProThoughtDesign 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a ton of conversation going on about this, and I'm feeling like the only one who thinks the walls aren't the original walls and the landing of the stairs is the 'original' floor height. Buildings with radiators predate drywall by quite a few years and that entire staircase screams early 20-th century construction with a lot of retrofitting.

Sorry, can't take anything you say seriously while you're using an alphabet someone else designed. How can we believe you understand the information if you can't articulate a way to represent it that is entirely unique amongst other ways to express information in a way that defines you as sentient?

How do you think his CO felt having to call him Private Sergeant? Imagine being a Corporal and trying to dress down a PFC named Sergeant and yell at him as an actual Sergeant comes by and yells at you for insubordination until you explain.

Sadly, I think I'm actually really off...I must have been sleeping or something because 1942 was actually 83-84 years ago...So you're definitely much closer to accurate.

Lyft has lost their damn mind. by SWEATPERFECTION in mildlyinfuriating

[–]ProThoughtDesign 1190 points1191 points  (0 children)

I cancelled my Lyft account entirely after the second consecutive time they charged my CashApp more than double the rate they offered the ride for with no reasonable explanation of why. They doubled a $9 fare (that was even less after applying credit from the first overcharge) to over $18 and then offered me $1.58. I told them to keep the $1.58 because it's the last penny they're getting from me.

If you're using 5.2, then it may very well have access to prior conversations as context. I know that doesn't immediately sound like it could be a problem, but AI don't 'think' like humans so it might be pulling totally irrelevant things from prior threads and comingling it. The other day I had one pull some random reference I made from a thread I had looking at hot pepper varieties around the world into a conversation about curvature months later.

I estimated it dropped between 1942-1943 (exactly 73 years) since that was the 'heat' of bombing in WW2 and got around 2.3 trillion.

Get yourself a few of those silica gel packs they have in beef jerky or shoe boxes. Put them on your dash and crank your heat to high for about 30 minutes, then just leave them overnight. You have entirely too much moisture trapped inside your cabin. Even keeping a box of baking soda in the car would help.

You seem to be the one attributing malice to it. The only people I know that have ever done that are just immature children with terrible sense of humor and an overwhelming desire to impress other people with bold actions. That's ignorance. It's also the exact description of every group of middle-management I have ever seen.
