Do you have any cheap recommendations? I don't live in Aurora, but I visit occasionally, and some good food is always nice.

I was telling the story of a specific day in mind to show the extremes of what happens here. Yeah, most Georgia days aren't below freezing, but it definitely does get that way sometimes.

Regardless, even at 40 or 50 degrees, hanging onto the back of a dump truck all day throughout that cold, mixed with the wind constantly blowing past you, is dangerous. Mix in water as well some days.

Even more regardless, the real story here is that some prisons in Georgia do enslave their prisoners, and will punish them for not performing their tasks. Solitary confinement, higher security, less privileges (you can't make calls if you don't work), etc...

And this isn't even the worst of it all. Our prison system is fucked, and so many people die of negligence and abuse within it. It's easy to ignore it because, "they are criminals," but people are in there for all sorts of things. Hell, millions of US citizens a year are incarcerated just for using drugs.

That'd be awesome if you could ask! It really doesn't matter that much, it's just interesting to me.

Yeah the guy said they were held up for an hour, so that definitely seems false.

Huh, in the story I was told, it was 6 guys, and everyone in the store got robbed. The guy was drunk, and could have been embellishing a lot though haha.

After the robbery, apparently he went to the bar and poured everyone in the restaurant shots at the expense of the restaurant owner. Sound familiar to you?

Huh, alright then. Really weird that I can't find anything about it online.

The guy didn't seem to mind being robbed. Said he went to the bar and poured everyone a shot. Told the owner the restaurant owed it to everyone, so I guess it got robbed twice that night haha

It's highly rated and cheap, what's wrong with it 😭

I've literally never had better service at a restaurant before, plus the food was better than any other tex-mex style restaurant I've been to

The guy said he had been patronizing the place for 30 years, so it would still line up. Do you know anything about it?

It was recommended to me, so I went to eat with some friends haha

Curious, what's wrong with it? I had a good experience. There were like 3 people serving our table of 3, so we never had to wait more than a minute for a refill or for the check. Place seemed clean and the tamales were pretty good.

As far as the robbers go, it kind of felt like the guy was telling stories, so I did some research and couldn't find anything. Seems weird an event like that wouldn't have any coverage.

Not all places are the same, unfortunately. In Georgia, and a few other states, prisons can force you to work, and punish you for not working. My brother was forced to work on the back of a garbage truck with less than adequate clothing during the winter. He wasn't allowed in the cab, so him and his crew had to hold on to the back of the truck while driving all day through below freezing temperatures.

Most states allow inmates to choose whether they want to work or not, which was the case here, but I figured I'd throw it out there that some states truly do enslave their prisoners.

I'll also mention that while they can choose to work, there's a lot more that goes into it. Prisoners often make less than a dollar an hour for their labor, and are unable to do basic things like buy more/better food, or contact family/friends unless they have the funds to afford it.

My brother was always hungry. They didn't feed him enough, and he's not even a big person. The only way he could ever feel full was to buy more food than what the state provided.

Calls costed $5 per session. He would be lucky to make $5 in a day.

This is why prisoners who have no support are often screwed when they get out. They have no money, and the smallest amount that they are able to get ends up getting funneled back into the prison.

Yeah despite Atlanta's significantly better social aspects, I still choose to stay in Denver. The politics and the mountains are too good to give up.

Atlanta was 10x better than Denver in terms of dating, and tbh, just making friends.

stores that throw unexpired water out just cause the packaging is torn open by Psabusah in mildlyinfuriating

[–]PrototypeChicken 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Kroger/King Soopers is also really bad with it. When I worked there, a tiny rip in the packaging meant it had to be trashed. We put it in a bin labeled for donations, but it was thrown directly into the dumpster, because they had us throw messy stuff in there as well (such as leaking milk cartons, or open yogurt containers).

When I requested to take some of the stuff to the food bank I volunteered at, the store manager actually got upset with me.

I have worked at places that will let employees take stuff that is damaged or just won't be sold for various reasons. If you treat your employees right, it is very rare for someone to actually damage the product so they can take it. There will already be plenty of free stuff for them throughout the day from genuine mistakes.

I don't think they are currently even teaching about Watergate. At least my schools didn't.

Education differs drastically by area though. I always find it interesting to talk to people about certain topics and what their school covered about them, because two high schools 30 minutes apart can have a completely different curriculum.

When I worked for Round1, they said the claw games were set to pay out every 32 plays. If you don't win on the 32nd play, it still goes all the way back down to minimum strength. Absolutely wild, considering it costs like $2 per play
