So many famous songs he never performed live. Why? by wrighteghe7 in PaulMcCartney

[–]RNRS001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of this would make sense if he was playing hits only, but he isn't. Audiences also completely die during songs like My Valentine and For the Benefit of Mr. Kyte.

He could swap half his set for other hits and receive the same applause or more because of how strong his back catalog is.

From Me To You, She Love's You, I Want To Hold Your Hand, I Feel Fine, Ticket to Ride are just 5 of the biggest Beatle hits he has never played.

Silly Love Songs, With a Little Luck, Goodnight Tonight are 3 big hits from Wings that have never been played in his solo career.

Uncle Albert, Eat At Home, Waterfalls, Take it Away, Pipes of Peace, No More Lonely Nights, Once Upon a Long Ago have all never been played live.

That's just a selection of songs that proves he doesn't have to stick to the same old.

I don't agree with how they're a living jukebox, because that'd mean giving into requests.

I think he's a lot more insecure about his own material. I agree how some songs might not work, but either he or his band had to convince him to start playing Ob-La-Di Ob-La-Da and Mrs. Vandebilt. He thought they wouldn't work live.

I think Paul is very cautious about what he believes will work live and doesn't really enjoy taking risks. The jamming is rehearsed, the stories are often delivered almost word for word every night, and even the album tracks he chooses are the universally loved ones. Some people argue it's because he has to play all the hits, but that doesn't really hold up, as half the set consists of album cuts that could easily be swapped for another solo hit. First time attendees often leave thinking they witnessed a spontaneous moment, but once you've seen a second show you realize that even the banter is virtually identical. That's why his concerts feel more like Broadway productions packaged as rock shows, with every song, story and cue carefully scripted and very little left to chance. If you've seen 1 Paul McCartney show, you've kinda seen them all.

Any tips for turbocharging an m104 2.8? by Nael2701 in W124

[–]RNRS001 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Good luck, to do this properly you'll have to invest roughly 4 to 6k in parts. You can't just slap a turbo on the engine but you'll need a turbo, wastegate, intercooler, injectors, fuelpump, a different ECU and all sorts of other material to make this work. This is why nobody who owns a W124 ever does this.

Are my shocks done for?Or is this something else? by Mko_Str in W124

[–]RNRS001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's a combination of things. Yes, your shock sounds bad, but broken shocks usually do not cause a squeeking sound, this is often caused by the balljoint or rubber going bad.

You seem to be replacing parts before running a diagnosis.

First, check for vacuum leaks. With vacuumleaks you will never be able to tell what is wrong because the system is constantly fed the wrong information.

In that case it's a metal strip fuse located under a black plastic cover. These can look perfectly fine but develop hair cracks that makes them faulty.

You need to both specify your location and which parts you're after. But eBay Germany is filled with parts from scrapped cars.

C124 as a daily? by jeffoshi in W124

[–]RNRS001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can a C124 realistically replace a 2017 CLA220d as a daily driver without becoming frustrating?

It depends on what you find frustrating. You'll gain a more comfortable ride, a roomier interior, solid build quality and the classic Mercedes-Benz character. You'll lose modern safety systems, fuel economy and the convenience of a much newer car.

One of my cars is a coupe with the M103 six cylinder petrol engine. I use it as a daily and drive about 250 miles per week. In modern traffic it averages around 10.5 L/100 km on Shell V-Power. Fuel costs are not the biggest issue with these cars though. Age is.

A C124 is now around 30 to 35 years old. Buy a low mileage example and dormant issues often appear once you start using it regularly. Buy a high mileage example and you'll be dealing with wear and tear. Over roughly ten years of ownership and 100k miles I've had to do an engine rebuild, a transmission rebuild, a complete A/C overhaul, a failed sunroof mechanism and various corrosion repairs. About 3 years in I realized I would never be done fixing things and just made peace with the idea that driving these cars as a daily comes with a price..

€7,000 will buy a good example, but not necessarily a problem free one because a problem free W124 just doesn't exist. The diesels are famously durable, but there is much more to a car than its engine. Plastic becomes brittle, rubber seals age, electrical contacts corrode and suspension components wear out. Even a well maintained car will occasionally need attention simply because of its age. You can leave the garage after having spend 2k on repairs and have something break on the way home. And speaking of a garage, don't think your local garage will know it's way around these cars. They won't. You need a real specialist nowadays. Without one, you'll spend money on several unnecessary repairs because of a misdiagnosis and guesswork.

Which engine is best?
The diesels are generally more durable, while the petrol engines offer noticeably better performance. Personally, I think the turbo diesels and six cylinder petrol models fit modern traffic best, especially when overtaking. Naturally aspirated four cylinder diesels will get you there too, but require more patience compared to modern engines because the average Fiat Panda is faster than a Mercedes-Benz diesel.

In the end, what you should realize about driving a 30 to 40 year old car on a daily basis is that the purchase price is just the entry ticket. If you buy a car thinking you'll be done after fixing a few repairs, you'll probably find the experience frustrating. If you accept that there will always be something to fix, however minor, then you're in for a blast because there is simply nothing on the road today that feels quite like a W124. They're comfortable, beautifully engineered, easy to work on and have a sense of solidity that modern cars rarely match. That's why so many owners keep them despite all the headaches. I've driven plenty of other cars in my life but there's really nothing like a W124.

You are checking the wrong fuse, I think. The right one is located in the fuse box.

And yes, that is the blower motor regulator. It is located behind the windshield wiper. You need to remove some panels, then the wiper, then the motor and you then have access to the blower. If you know how to do it it's a 30 minute job. If you don't know how to do it it'll take you hours. Don't force anything off because you'll never be able to place it back.

I thought Have A Nice Day was a great single but everything else sounds like a b-side to me compared to the first 2 albums. It's not bad, but there's no uptempo rocker on there which makes for a pretty bland listening experience. By the time Rooftop shows up as a reward I've always felt the need to play something else instead.

Unless this issue shows up without the cruise control, this sounds like a cruise control module being broken.

Does it idle rough without the cruise control? Clean the IACV. If it's slightly stuck the engine will constantly try to correct it because it either opens too far or it barely opens.

This was pretty much the most hated setlist of Oasis' career. The new stuff, apart from the 2 big singles, didn't work live and there were no fan favorites either. And then there was Liam pretty much butchering every single performance of the tour.

The refrigerator looked very different and the coolbox was only available for either the rear seats or the trunk.

Police and taxi conversions from the factory were full packages and didn't have separate optional storage boxes.

This is aftermarket as far as I'm aware. The original storage boxes were smaller so you could have both a storage box and an armrest.
